The WrestlingClassics.com message board

The scary thing about this board is it's a lot like our board except for the majority of people there REALLY hate almost all of today's wrestling. There are some cool discussions over there and their are quite a few pretty cool people over at that board but MAN some of them are really ignorant and elitist. Some statements made over at that board:

I saw a bit of Smackdown last night and I saw Rey Jr. wrestling the little Japaneese guy(Tajiri). Lou Thesz must be rolling over in his grave. That isn't wrestling, it's organized tumbling.

Kurt Angle is decent but Lou Thesz would strech him in 30 seconds flat in a shoot. (Yeah Lou Thesz may have been a pretty good shooter but he was never a world class amateur. Even if he MIGHT be able to strech Angle, it would be a pretty even match.

The Jack Brisco-Lou Thesz match from *insert year here* WAS wrestling not anything like you saw on RAW last night. A women going threw a flaming table off a 200 foot scaffold buck naked then rolling into a bowl of tapioca pudding and having sex with a amputee midget(WTF nothing even close to that has even happened on RAW....althought it would be mildly entertaining for a sick fuck like me)

Oh and if anyone posts there don't mention anything about this over there, cause for 1 there board is sooooo much huger then ours and for 2 they have Blue Meanie and Percy Pringle posting over there. And our board just doesn't stack up against those two,not many posters here could stack up to Da Blue Guy or Paul Bearer.

The oldtimers crack me up, they're worse then your average mark (although we're all marks, I mean the markiest of the marks)

There's a ton of really smart people posting over there. Lots of old sentimentalism, but a ton of knowledge to be found also. Meltzer, Coey, Williams, and Jewett are all there.

Yeah is all the knowledge really worth it though? I agree with Youth 'N Asia in the fact that he said the old timers are worse then the average mark. I've only seen one pair of old school marks in my life, they were at an indy show main evented by Rick Fuller of WCW Saturday Night fame and they were bragging to a nearby mark about how they saw the first three WrestleManias on closed circuit and they were saying how all of the first three Wrestlemanias were two times better then X7. They also yelled at me when I went to the concession stand cause they said I was blocking their view and I went to the concession stand during intermission. I guess the guys really wanted to see the baby faces pose with eight year old kids.

The first three Wrestlemanias were better than X7??? Wrestlemania III maybe, but 1 and 2? Hell no!

It's okay for them to like the stars of the past. We all have our favorite wrestlers from the past (my being Hogan, Bret, HBK, Steamboat). But we move on. We still watch because there are some great wrestlers actively competing today. Why can't they just watch some Kurt Angle, or Chris Benoit, or Jericho? That's some great wrestling right there!

Man some of those old men are bitter. One guy was pissed that wrestlers complain about no health benefits or no union.

Yeah I'd like to see that guy stay on the road most of the year with injuries piling up and then complain.

The first three WrestleManias combined were better than X7? Maybe they meant the first three combined or something.

I believe they said the first three Wrestlemanias were better then X7 by themselves. I know one of them said"The first WrestleMania was the best period, it didn't get any better then that."

The first Wrestlemania had short matches and some bad wrestling. How could that be considered the best when Wrestlemania X-Seven had three ***** MOTYC and nothing (besides Chyna/Ivory and the six man tag) was below ** is beyond me.

Man, talk about living in the past. Move on man!

Hell I gave the six man tag ** stars, it was short and exciting. If the match was any longer it would have been a boring HOSS fest but it didn't.

From my time on the WC board, there are a lot of posters there with real world history in the business. With all due respect to those here (I'm sure there must be folks here with a connection to the business), some of their opinions are based on their real world experience having made money promoting/working in wrestling. The current trend of shock value TV and rapid fire title changes must really stick in the craw of a traditionalist.

Their opinions may differ from those on this board, but they are no less valid. Are some of them guilty of living in the past? Certainly. However, there are some on this board who look back longingly to 2000 and speak bitterly of today's promoting.

Me too. I got hooked on JCP right when they were starting to hype Starrcade '86. Followed it right up until they broke away from the NWA.

I'm 35, so I go back a ways myself. I remember watching Backlund and Pedro Morales on WIIC in Pittsburgh.

They do realize that an actor main evented that one, don't they?

Maybe we don't understand where they are coming from. Having seen SOME not a lot but some old school wrestling via video tapes, I can't see that much difference wrestling wise besides longer matches(Which equals to more rest holds). Although I still think some of them are wayyy too bitter.
