HBK = Hulk Hogan?

Recommended Posts

Am I the only one who has seen a slight comparison between these two legends and how their returns were presented? They both made their in-ring return in a "big money match", Hogan with Rocky and HBK with HHH. Both of them went on to win the World Title, and only kept it for a month. Then, after loosing said title, they both went on to different feuds, leaving the World Title in the past for the time being. Now, this brings me to this point...

...Hogan began to lay down for just about anyone, which was rather odd seeing. Could it be that HBK will now enter feuds and will lay down, in order to try to build people up, such as Chris Jericho?

Ok, maybe not, but still, the comparisons are there if you ask me. I just wanted to see if anyone else noticed this, or if it's just me.

Sincerely,

...Downhome...

It's just you.

I don't see why though, there are many simularities, and if Jericho beats HBK, then it's just that much more the same.

Both guys also should have been played as a novelty act. The NWO was great that first night of Raw as they only made a few appearances, no matter what you think of that ambulance angle.

Then they started appearing more and more. And then Hall had a match, and his opponent was Spike Dudley, and I started to notice that they were being overused.

By the time they had a tag with Austin/Rock (a team-up that would have been considered unstoppable back in 98-99) and actually WON, I realized the angle was heading for the drizzling shits.

The same can be said for Shawn as he turns into Just Another Guy. Aren't they really blowing any shreds of kayfabe to the wind by talking about how injured Shawn is and letting him wrestle so much?

"BAH GAWD! That poor man is nearly crippled.. And... And. AND HE WENT OVER AN ENTIRE ROSTER OF YOUNG HEALTHY MEN!!! DO YA BELIEVE IN MIRACLES BAH GAWD!?"

Great, it was PERFECT for a while, I was so into it. I quickly realized it was going to go nowhere fast, and the reason being that WWE apparently didn't even have ANY plans for them after the Hogan thing, they just sort of stuck them out there, without thinking anything through...

...but hey, that's the norm I suppose.

Pretty much.

What they SHOULD have done is make them mostly talk up until near WM, and then Austin should have torn through everyone in that tag match on Raw. It makes no sense for Austin & Rock to LOSE to three winds of the past.

With Austin/Rock winning the tag match, Hall could have gone over with interferance from Nash at WM and the stable wouldn't have looked so weak. And for those who say "But Austin would throw a fit!," he went over and he still threw a fit anyway. Fuck him. He hasn't lost at WM since he fought Bret in 97, and it's not like Hall was some green rookie who just got pushed this year *cough*.

If Michaels loses to Jericho, you can bet the farm he won't put him over properly.

While similarities do exist towards Hogan and HHH (mainly do to their reputations as backstage cancers) there returns were not similar.

HHH's return was heralded as the Second Coming of Jesus and was booked mainly as being the beginning of a new era in the WWE (the Triple H era) whic hwas going to lead the WWE into the future, what with Rock's movie career causing him to no-longer be available full time and Austin ending up finding himself being depushed after openly opposing HHH's rise to power behind the scenes one time too many....

Hogan's return was a quick-fix measure performed by Vince MacMahon to try and boost ratings and if it didn't work, a perfect excuse for Vince to exact petty revenge on Hogan for his role in helping Bischoff nearly drive Vince out of business in 1996-1998.

Another difference was the fact that HHH's return was a complete and total flop, what with him spending his first couple of months back making Kurt Angle and Chris Jericho his personal bitches and such with none of the 2000-Period spark he once had. Meanwhile Hogan's return ironically made a huge impact, dispite low expectations by fans towards how he would be accepted back after such a dismal last couple of years in WCW.
