Guest sebbeh65 Posted December 22, 2002 Report Posted December 22, 2002 I am currently reviewing the Survivor Series 97 (in swedish, sorry) and would like to include a couple of jokes about the Montreal incident. If you have any, I would be happy to read them. And yes, I will give you proper credit. =) You can write the joke/s here or mail them to me on [email protected] Thanks!
Guest Mattdotcom Posted December 22, 2002 Report Posted December 22, 2002 It'd be really hard to put this in a rant, but I remember an Apter mag running a cartoon with Vince trapped in a giant glass and a man saying, "Excuse me, but I didn't order a screwdriver."
Guest dreamer420 Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 Lame idea. Not a funny incident.
Guest sebbeh65 Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 I know, but I believe in that you can joke about (almost) everything. I respect Vince, Bret and Shawn (whom I love) but thinks that it´s okay to joke about it.
Guest dreamer420 Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 I just hate to see any jokes about Bret as his career was ruined by Vince at that show.
Guest bob_barron Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 His career was not ruined by Montreal. He could've gone to WCW and been a success. Didn't happen. I recently watched the show and it was pretty good if a bit boring
Guest kingkamala Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 I think Dreamer420 needs to lighten up a little bit. Bret Hart's career was NOT ruined by Montreal it was ruined by his unsuccessful WCW career. Besides if Bret Hart forgot about the incident and just dropped it instead of bitching and complaining about it almost every chance he gets you wouldn't feel this way.... And I can't think of any good Montreal screwjob jokes
Guest bob_barron Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 What's the deal with Montreal? I mean could it be any more screwier?? To be fair- Bret doesn't really bring it up much anymore. Vince is the one who can't seem to let it go
Guest kingkamala Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 What's the deal with Montreal? I mean could it be any more screwier?? To be fair- Bret doesn't really bring it up much anymore. Vince is the one who can't seem to let it go And HBK can't let it go. At least Vince has let up since Bret's had the stroke but HBK hasn't let up a bit.
Guest Midnight Express83 Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 Vince has led up because he knows, as long as money can be made. There is time to repair any burnt bridge, no matter if half of it floated down the Atlantic. HBK is the biggest prick of all time. Bottom line. Bret Hart doesn't really harp on it anymore. Since his stroke, writing about Vince screwing him has come second nature to trying to get back the life he had before his stroke. As for jokes about the event: n/a. It is just one of those things that can't be made fun of.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 It's possible to make fun of anything.
Guest kingkamala Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 Yeah AoO is right anything can be made fun of and Montreal 97 is no exception. Nobody really got hurt physically(Besides Vince), mentally and emotionally the damages weren't immense. I think some people on this board should lighten up a bit, if Bret's gotten over it so should you guys.
Guest bob_barron Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 You know I went to Montreal last week- you know what I saw- a lot of SCREWING around!
Guest Midnight Express83 Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 I mean, it can't be made fun of and be funny. I tried hard and no jokes about the event itself are funny. Everything leading up to it can be made fun of though. Like saying at WM4, Bad News didn't screw Bret. Bret screwed Bret.
Guest HartFan86 Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 WCW killed Bret Hart. Bret should of wrestled Hogan @ Starrcade 97 and won the belt. Bottom line. He would of been the biggest babyface in WCW's history coming off the screwjob. But they blew it. And now they are out of business. Basically, Montreal was the beginning of the beginning of the end of Bret Hart.
Guest bob_barron Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 Ummmm no. Considering they hyped Sting v. Hogan for so long- that should've happened at Starrcade.
Guest HartFan86 Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 Ummmm no. Considering they hyped Sting v. Hogan for so long- that should've happened at Starrcade. And considering WHAT THEY DID WITH STING AND HOGAN? I wish Sting/Hogan never happened. Edit: Okay, you are right about Starrcade. Then have him win the title at Superbrawl or something. Bad timing for Bret getting into WCW, wasn't it?
Guest bob_barron Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 EDIT: I saw your edit. I would've built up Sting v. Hart like a motherfucker- that match would've been huge if done right
Guest Mattdotcom Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 Anything would've been better than what happened (that must be the official WCW slogan). mean, we got Future-Cripple Kevin Nash helping Then-Current Cripple Randy Savage win the title from mega-face Sting. Then Savage lost the belt to Hogan the next night with Bret's help even though Bret had been saying for weeks he was going to make sure no injustices were done. The thing that always made me laugh is a few days later, WCW Magazine had Bret on the cover and a story dealing with how he wouldn't cheat blah-blah-blah.
Guest dreamer420 Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 His career was not ruined by Montreal. He could've gone to WCW and been a success. Didn't happen. I recently watched the show and it was pretty good if a bit boring Well first off, he never should have been run off to WCW in the first place. Bret Hart is a hero to me, and if your hero had been treated like he was and then have his career end on the note that it did, you'd be pissed too.
Guest bob_barron Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 We could debate about Montreal all day but don't act like it killed his career. WCW just did not use his momentum to their advantage and we got a bland and boring Bret Hart. I experienced the same thing with Bulldog at One Night Only in 1997 so I can see where you are coming from and I will agree that the fact that Bret's last match was against Big Kev sucks ass
Guest dreamer420 Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 We could debate about Montreal all day but don't act like it killed his career. WCW just did not use his momentum to their advantage and we got a bland and boring Bret Hart. I don't see anyway that Bret's career could have bounced back after the Montreal incident. There was too much damage done on that night.
Guest HartFan86 Posted December 24, 2002 Report Posted December 24, 2002 Bret Hart, much like dreamer420, is my hero, role model, etc. in life. Always has and always will be. But who do I hate the most for bringing bad fortune to him? Not Vince. Not Earl. Not HBK. Not Hogan. This may surprise you, but not even WCW itself. One man I will always have hatred for. Bill Goldberg. I'm usually not bitter, but I'll be a bitter fuck for the rest of my life when talking about Bret because of this guy. BTW, you can say what you want, but you can't defend Goldberg for what he did to Bret. Sure, it may have been an "accident" (all 3 of them), but PROFESSIONALS DONT MAKE STUPID MISTAKES LIKE THAT. PERIOD. I'm bitter because a man who was quoted saying he could care less about pro wrestling injuried the greatest wrestler in the history of the sport. I'm getting pissed, so I"m going to just submit this post.
Guest tpww7 Posted December 24, 2002 Report Posted December 24, 2002 Well, Bill Goldberg is an idiot. He did punch out a limo window, injuring himself for months.

He probably should have but I don't think Bret keeps hostility about that kind of stuff.
Guest sebbeh65 Posted December 24, 2002 Report Posted December 24, 2002 ...and if we should go back to topic?
Guest HartFan86 Posted December 25, 2002 Report Posted December 25, 2002 ...and if we should go back to topic? Then make a fucking joke.
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted December 25, 2002 Report Posted December 25, 2002 I just hate to see any jokes about Bret as his career was ruined by Vince at that show. Those of us who think Bret is a whiny bitch who got what he deserved think it's pretty funny. Although, I second the Goldberg comment. Even though I don't like the guy, I think it's as rotten as an Ass Sandwhich that he got his career ended by that goof.
Guest kingkamala Posted December 26, 2002 Report Posted December 26, 2002 I think it's a bad idea to start any thread about Montreal 97, even if it's a joke thread. Tempers get flared, if I had pictures of my vacation in Montreal in 97(I've never been to Montreal ever btw), people would star discussing Survivor Series 97.
