Guest Hogan Made Wrestling Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 Apparently a rumour has been circulating that Deion Sanders may come out of retirement to join the Raiders for their playoff run. He doesn't want to play a full season again, just a few games and the playoffs. The Raiders are hurting in their secondary and could use the depth that Deion would bring. Is this a smart move for both or either side?
Guest Vern Gagne Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 No, and No. Deion was washed up when he retired. Can an professional athlete stay retired?
Guest El Satanico Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 If Deion can still go then yes it's a smart move for Oakland. And Deion has nothing to lose if he can still go. He's nowhere near what he use to be and he doesn't scare teams anymore. However if he's still in shape he'd be of help to a Oakland secondary with it's top CB out for at least two week.
Guest bob_barron Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 Is it allowed to sign a guy the last week of the season and plug him in the playoffs? How much will he cost in terms of cap room. Aren't the raiders gonna take a major hit next year
Guest El Satanico Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 Oakland is screwed cap wise next year regardless. This season is big for them, because it's likely their last chance to win the Superbowl with all the veterens. So signing someone else won't affect them that much as they will be doing major cuts after the season regardless.
Guest Bricks Posted December 24, 2002 Report Posted December 24, 2002 Deion has to clear waivers first to become a free-agent. So that means, any team like a playoff contender or an Oakland arch-rival can claim him off waivers just to piss of the Raiders.
Rob E Dangerously Posted December 26, 2002 Report Posted December 26, 2002 I hear the Steelers and Titans claimed Deion, and the Steelers would get him
Guest MrRant Posted December 26, 2002 Report Posted December 26, 2002 Chargers ended up with him and placed him on their retired list.
Guest converge241 Posted December 26, 2002 Report Posted December 26, 2002 btw, Oakland is projected 57 million over the salary cap next year that's insane
Guest bob_barron Posted December 26, 2002 Report Posted December 26, 2002 No wonder Gruden bolted. Sounds like they're in the same situation as the Ravens were
