Sounding the alarm on video game ratings

Here we go again but what I would like to know is what game includes :

In one of the animated games, the player scores points as a male figure gets into a car and has sex with a prostitute, then scores more points when he beats and kicks her to get his money back.

I would like to play this game.

Yeah I'm pretty sure that's Vice City.

GTA III.

"You" are already in the car, and you get health back.

Don't know if the same trick can be done in GTA:VC.

Factual error: there are no points scored by the aforementioned scenerio, because GTA doesn't have a point scoring system. If they're gonna bitch, they could at least ask a kid to proofread their stuff to make sure it's right.

I could solve this problem real easy.

*throws the GTA 3 box with game inside at protestors head* Thats as much harm video games can do so long as parents take responsibility. Stop using game consoles as fucking babysitters your lazy fucks.

And GTA3/VC is rated M, for mature. It's clearly marked as being for people 17 and older.

So... what's the problem again?

The problem being that people are too fucking lazy to educate themselves on the ratings system, buy the game, and then piss and moan because it has scenes that offend them.

I hate these people. Ratings are fine. If you don't like it, ignore it. Stop trying to ruin everyone else's fun.

Yeah Colin Hanks told about that trick on The Tonight Show or Conan or one of those shows once when discussing video games he liked. He said you could get a prostitute then run her over to get your money back.

I'd place some of the blame on stores, for selling them to minors. In line at some store around here, I saw a 14 year old buy Twisted Metal Black.

Now, whether or not that kid will be scarred for life and/or turn into a Sweettooth copycat (I really doubt it) doesn't matter. The kid was alone, under 17, buying an M rated game. Stores need to start enforcing the system.

But as was mentioned before, more often than not, it's the parents who just don't pay attention.

I think stores should only enforce the rating system if they don't KNOW the customer.

Like, when I walk into my local Hollywood Video, the people that work there know me. They know I head right for the horror section, then new releases, then sci-fi, then action, back to new releases, and back to horror, with the now-and-then step into the games section. My list of past rented movies have all been R-rated or unrated because the filmmakers did not submit the movie to the MPAA. One day, they suddenly decided to enforce it, so I couldn't rent Return Of The Living on DVD. I started quoting the movie word-for-word to a clerk that worked there and chatted with me about horror movies a lot, but they still wouldn't let me rent it.

Meh, oh well. Fuck the MPAA.

Oh wait, VIDEO GAMES...

Ummm...hey, I already got Vice City and GTA3, and I turn 17 in 6 months, so I'm okay.

Don't even get me started on these asshole parents who get on these anti-mature game bandwagons. Maybe if you were better fucking parents, you'd nocite the kid cocking a firearm before he gets on the school bus. *sigh*

Now that I'm well above the cutoff for Mature games, I say enforce the FUCK out of the ratings system. I don't care if the kid will be 17 years old TOMORROW... no parent, no game. Then, parents would have absolutely NO grounds for bitching.

The only way the game would then get into the hands of a minor would be if they borrowed it from a friend or had someone get it for them. And you know what? Shit happens. Part of growing up nowadays is being exposed to shit like that. Realistic violence is shown on free TV all the time. Argh... I'm starting to get pissed, so I'm cutting this post short.

M-rated Games should to be treated like cigarettes and beer: If you're underage, then we can't sell it too you. Bottom line.

Or, you know, Mom and Pop could get off their fat asses, go to the store with the kid, look at the video game, read the back, look at the rating, and make a fucking decission.

Yeah I remember when I was underage they carded me for everything I tried to buy or rent. Now that I'm nearly 19 years old they never card me for anything. Dammit that's half the fun showing those smug fuckers that you're older than them(b/c most of the time i am)

As a 20 year old, I think it's terrible that 17 and under kids can play games like GTA3 and Mortal Kombat. It'll make them twisted!!

that is all

I have six M rated games for my X-box and I'm only 17...

Video game ratings and movie ratings are the same. People see them, and tend to ignore them.

Not true.

I tried to buy GTAIII for PC, but my grandmother had to there.

I tried to buy The Craft on DVD, but couldn't since it's rated R.

Then again, being that I am 14 might have an effect.

Surely the craft won't warp you anymore than this message board. I propose we give every fold an M rating exceeeeept....

You can post in the Comic book section. I would say Food + Shopping but we discuss A-L-C-O-H-O-L ;)

I've ingored ratings my entire life and basically scoffed at anyone who has. (Of course, I'm talking movies. NO ONE cares about video games, and the problem has never really been my concern anyway) Movie/TV/Game ratings are useless in my opinion. My kid won't live in a sheltered world where everything is all nice and fluffy.l

I played games like DOOM and Moron Kombat when I was growing up. It didn't turn me into a violent, sadistic freak.
