Whats your fav of the NJ "trilogy"?

Feel free to include explinations or least favorite.

Favorite: Clerks

its hard to go against the original. I think Amy is a better all around movie, but clerks is my personla favorite.

well, unfortunantly i have yet to see Jay And Silent Bob, but from what i HAVE seen, I must also go for Chasing Amy, simply because it had my favorite scene out of all of those movies, the one where Banky draws the picture of the man hating dyke, the male friendly lesbian, santa claus, and the easter bunny..."They're figments of your fucking imagination!"...plus I personally felt Chasing Amy had the best all around storyline and script...Jason Lee, of course, is the best actor in the whole Askiewnaverse world, next is Jason Mewes

Now, I love Smith's movies and his Askewniverse comics, but the only episode of the Clerks animated series I ever saw was the one where they get locked in a freezer or something, and I thought it was horrible and really unfunny. Please tell me the other episodes were better.

Yeah, they are.  And actually, the freezer episode is a lot funnier in context of the actual timeline of the cartoon.  You need to watch the actual "pilot" episode first before the freezer one to understand the joke behind everything.

Ah, OK. Maybe I'll pick up Clerks: Uncensored when I've gotten the other ones (big DVD price drop coming soon, if it's not already in effect)

Clerks is easily the best for me. It's the most consistantly funny film with great lines throughout. It also has that hint of pathos near the end of the film which is always the hallmark of the very best comedy (the final episode of Blackadder Goes Forth is the classic sitcom example i think, film is more debatable). All his other films are quite patchy, despite being very funny in places. I was especially dissapointed with Jay and Silent Bob, which was very hit and miss.

I'm really torn between Mallrats and Chasing Amy. I love all of Smith's movies but the best Kevin Smith line cam from Clerks.

In order (I haven't picked up the animated series DVD yet, so this is just the feature films):

5. Mallrats

4. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back

3. Dogma

2. Chasing Amy

1. Clerks

Clerks holds up as having some of the best (in my opinion) dialogue of any movie to date, and I'm all about the dialogue. Chasing Amy and Dogma are both great movies, and their positions on my list are more or less interchangable - Rock, Carlin and Rickman totally brought it for Dogma, and Lee was brillant as Azrael - but, as has been said earlier in the thread, Amy has a great plot and really solid performances all-around, including (surprise) more Jason Lee excellence. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back had me falling out of my seat in the theatre, and I totally enjoy it on DVD, but it didn't seem to have as much to, well, say as Amy or Dogma, and the writing of Clerks has never been equalled in any other Askew picture, so Strike Back gets #4. For all the flak it's taken, Mallrats actually is a good movie for what it was intended to be, and I've got no objections to it whatsoever (except for the alternate opening with the "assassination", that really WAS god-awful, but since it wasn't actually in the movie, it hardly counts :) ). It's only at the bottom of the list because it happens to be my least favorite out of five movies I really enjoy.

It'll be weird seeing a non-Chronicles/Trilogy Smith flick, but I'm really looking forward to Jersey Girl.

1.Amy -best story

2.Clerks -best dialogue

3.Mallrats  -how can you not love Brodie?

4.Dogma -made the mistake of reading the script before seeing the movie. still a good flick though.

5.JASBSB -funny. just not as good at the others.

6.Clerks animated -fun, but not really on the same level as the films.

FWIW, Smith was recently on The Tonite Show with Melonhead and showed a short film he did starring Randal and Dante. It's outstanding!  If you didnt see it, hit the link.

5) Mallrats - Unfunny and lame.  Jason Lee rules though as usual.

4) Dogma - Good movie with a great cast but the movie gets a little too boring during some parts.

3) Clerks - Great chemistry between Randal and Dante made this film.

2) JASBSB - Awesome to see all major players from Smith's first 4 films in this one.  Good spoof on Hollywood as well and Ben Affleck was in his funniest role

1) Chasing Amy - Great contemporary love story.  Hilarious cast.  Almost a perfect film.
