Guest Mole Report post Posted December 28, 2002 Well, does anyone know if Seinfeld is coming out on DVD? If so, that would be awesome.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted December 28, 2002 I'm sure that Seinfeld will eventually have a DVD release.
Guest Bruiser Chong Report post Posted December 28, 2002 There are no plans as of right now to release any Seinfeld episodes on DVD, which is a travesty seeing as how it's probably one of the most revolutionary shows to come down the pike in the last couple of decades. One would imagine now that shows like The Simpsons are finally being released, it'll only be a matter of time before we see Seinfeld on DVD. Hopefully, if the day ever comes where we get Seinfedl DVDs, they'll be given the proper treatment, i.e. Season Box Sets and none of that Best of crap. There are so many shows out on DVD that really don't need to be, why's it taking them so long to put out one of the shows that truly deserves to be immortalized on the DVD format? I'm sure the demand is there for it, not much else could be holding it back.
Guest imajackoff? Report post Posted December 28, 2002 I believe I read an interview with Seinfeld in which he said that the syndication deal they currently have is so lucrative, that there are no plans to release them on dvd. Give it a couple of years when the syndication ratings go down a little bit, then they will start selling the shows on dvd.

Just taking a walk down the aisle at Target I saw both The Jeffersons and the god-awful Mary Tyler Moore Show season 1 box sets on sale. WTF? The Jeffersons is alright every now and then, but fuckin' Mary Tyler Moore? Please.

Guest Bruiser Chong Report post Posted December 29, 2002 I believe I read an interview with Seinfeld in which he said that the syndication deal they currently have is so lucrative, that there are no plans to release them on dvd. That's insane; they should be putting it out based on its demand. Who cares if they have enough money from syndication; how about doing it cause the true fans want it? I know that nothing is done with relations to anything but money, but c'mon, we want the damn DVDs. No shit. Just taking a walk down the aisle at Target I saw both The Jeffersons and the god-awful Mary Tyler Moore Show season 1 box sets on sale. WTF? The Jeffersons is alright every now and then, but fuckin' Mary Tyler Moore? Please. Hey, hey, hey, let's not get crazy here. I happen to own the MTM box set. That show is prolly one of the most groundbreaking shows in television history; I've never understood the hate for it from some people. It's not my favorite series or anything, but it's certainly a funny, groundbreaking show. Now granted, it's not so "groundbreaking" by today's standards, but this was 1970. MTM broke some of the key elements that had been etched in stone for previous sitcoms. Just think, MTM came before any of the other shows that have been labled groundbreaking (although to be fair, many of them were); shows like All in the Family, The Jeffersons (which I hate), and Sanford and Son. Guest El Satanico Report post Posted December 29, 2002 I don't understand the Mary Tyler Moore hate either. I often watch it on Tvland when i get up early during during the week and it's a good show. Not as good as the The Dick Van Dyke Show which she got popular on, but still not a bad show by any means.

I agree that The Dick Van Dyke Show is the overall better show, The Mary Tyler Moore Show had a few things on it like the fact that it wasn't a run of the mill sitcom and the characters actually were developed as the seasons ran on, unlike the characters on most of the sitcoms before it, where the characters lacked some depth, IMO. Guest EQ Report post Posted December 30, 2002 Wasn't "Friends" coming out with those stupid "best of" DVDs for a while, then started releasing entire seasons? I know they have seasons 1 and 2 out on DVD now also. Maybe the studios are finally realizing that those "best of" DVDs are crap. It happened with South Park too. How many volumes came out before they decided to release season 1? Seinfeld will be out on DVD, but I don't see it happening anytime soon. Give me Mad About You: Season 2 already! I love that damn show. I don't care what anyone thinks of me.

I love that damn show. I don't care what anyone thinks of me. Friends was indeed put out on DVD in the "Best of" format, before being given the season box set treatment. They seem to do this for a lot of TV series and one would imagine that in most cases, it's to see how they'll sell before they take the possible risk of putting out complete season and therefore, more expensive box sets. I hope that's what they're doing with Married With Children, because a show that great certainly deserves more than the half-assed "Best of" DVD format. And as for Mad About You, I was never too big a fan and only saw it a few times when they were showing it here on FOX a few years back. I believe it's still on one of the channels like Lifetime perhaps. But as much as I wanna see all of these shows come out on DVD, I'll take them in moderation as the next several months are gonna be pretty hectic with releases like the complete second seasons of Sanford and Son, The Mary Tyler Moore Show being released in the next couple of months, along with the third season of The Simpsons, not to mention the first season of Family Guy. These will be some busy and expensive months that lay ahead.

Guest Bruiser Chong Report post Posted December 30, 2002 I fucking love All in the Family. Does anyone know what the plans are for Season 2? The second season of All in the Family will be released February 4, 2003, will contain 3 dics and will run approx. nine hours, so considering that there were 24 episodes that season, that sounds like this will set won't contain any extras, just like the first season, which is a shame and to me, a sign of laziness. ::Also waiting for NewsRadio DVD especially now that A&E pulled it:: When did they do this? I just saw it on A&E a couple of days ago.

There are other Seinfeld episodes that I think would spark much more controversy than the Puerto Rican Day one.

Guest areacode212 Report post Posted December 30, 2002 Yeah, the Puerto Rican day episode is no longer "banned" from syndication.
Guest Bruiser Chong Report post Posted December 30, 2002 And for good reason. I mean, how overly-sensitive can you get? In this day and age of such edgy TV shows and movies, one would think that people wouldn't be so thin-skinned about everything. Then again, a lot of people today just like to overreact about anything they can.
Guest areacode212 Report post Posted December 30, 2002 I agree, and it was pretty ridiculous how NBC folded so quickly. They should grow a pair. The exact same thing happened with an episode of Law & Order which portrayed that Puerto Rican Day parade "wilding" incident from a few years ago. NBC vowed that it would never be shown again on the network. Thank god for DVDs. Here's the article announcing the return of the Seinfeld episode: FORBIDDEN 'SEINFELD' By MICHAEL STARR -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kramer (Michael Richards) ends up outraging the crowd by manhandling the Puerto Rican flag (above) and then accidentally torching it. October 30, 2002 -- A CONTROVERSIAL 1998 "Seinfeld" episode about the Puerto Rican Day Parade, missing on the airwaves here for nearly five years, has quietly been put back into circulation. The episode so incensed New Yorkers, especially Hispanics, that it was yanked from syndication in the New York market by Columbia TriStar, which syndicates the series. Columbia TriStar, figuring that enough time had passed, decided to re-air the episode last Aug. 3. When no one complained, the decision was made to put it back into a regular rotation. The episode aired again this past Monday night on Ch. 5 (11 p.m.). In the episode, which originally aired in May '98 on NBC, Jerry and his pals got stuck in a traffic jam caused by the midtown Puerto Rican Day parade. That, in turn, led to a series of misadventures including Kramer (Michael Richards) manhandling and then accidentally torching a Puerto Rican flag. In another scene, Jerry's car is attacked by paradegoers - and Kramer remarks that men rioting and vandalizing a car is "like every day in Puerto Rico." Many viewers and politicians were outraged by the episode, and both Seinfeld and NBC later apologized - although the episode pulled a whopping 39 million viewers. "Seinfeld" ended its storied run the following week with a one-hour finale.
Guest Bruiser Chong Report post Posted December 30, 2002 Reading that stuff just upsets me, as it shows that there are still some minorities that take everything way to seriously. I'm not racist, but I get tired of someone claiming that such and such is racist and an insult to their culture or whatever. It's not like Kramer torched the damn flag on purpose. My wife got into Seinfeld after it ended and she's been beggin me to see it... i still havent run across it in syndication and i watch a 6:30, 7:00, and 7:30 every weekday. I just assumed it was still banned. I know they lifted the ban on the envelopes episode after the Anthrax scare
