Legit Height of Certain wrestlers......

Recommended Posts

Guest AndrewTS
I dunno. You could think that he's over 7" when he's only like 6'10" because it's really rare to see people that big.

I know I'm only 6'4". I say only because I'm so used to gigantic wrestlers but everyone tells me I'm f'n huge.

I hear ya, being "only" 6'3" myself.

Yeah I know. People will be like "dude your gigantic" and I'll be like......not really. And having broad shoulders people always ask me if I play football, which I don't. And on top of that I go to OU. Jeez.....I'd be Jim Ross's wet dream. I can imagine if i wrestled.

"This 6'6, 300 pound hoss that was a linebacker at OU! He's a good ole boy that likes country music and homecooking!"

Well I'm 6'4" 250, I don't play football, I hate country music, and I eat fast food every damn day. But hey that probably wouldn't matter to JR. Hehehe.

I don't know why they announce him like that. I mean, there is always room for error in my perception, but when Paul Wight gets up, he keeps getting up. It's amazing. My step brother is 6'2" or so, and Show pretty much made him look like some short guy.

What about the Holly's?

Couple of years ago they were billed at way over 500 pounds.

Har Har Har

(I know it was an angle)

Well I remember when they said they wouldn't face anyone under 6'8", 400 lbs. and Kane walked out and they fought him. WTF? When did Kane start waying 400 lbs?

It's not polite to reveal a woman's statistics.

They used to, though. I remember the Moolah-McIntyre match at WM 2 got the full intro.

As did the Blayze/Kai match from WrestleMania 10.

Besides, I'd like to hear the announcement...

"From (whatever her hometown is), weighing 140 pounds...the WWE Women's Champion, Molly Holly!"

But then you'd have to announce Stacy Keibler at whatever double-digit weight she's at right now.

This has always been a rule amongst wrestling promoters that has been around since the days of Gotch, Londos, and Evan "The Strangler" Lewis.

A wrestler will usually have 2 inches added to their legit height to make them seem taller than they really are.

If a wrestler is 6'8" or taller, a promoter can make them as big as he wants (within reason) which was the case with many wrestler's.

Andre the Giant was a confirmed 6'10" when he was alive but was billed anywhere from 7'3" to 7'8" when he was wrestling around the world. This applies to former atheletes who went into professional wrestling as well. Ernie "The Big Cat" Ladd was billed anywhere from 6'10" to 7'2" when he first started wrestling even though his football stats said he was 6'9 when he did play.

That depends on when his height was checked. I think he shrunk over the years.

The team of Viscera and Rikishi BARELY made it at Armageddon 1999. I still get a mild chuckle out of Lawler / JR's exchange:

Lawler: I think these Holly Cousins wanted to fight some REAL superheavyweights!

JR: Well, can you think of any 2 guys bigger?

Lawler: Ummmm . . . no.

Not funny on paper, but I was a mark for that gimmick.

When Andre first started out wrestling in 1964 in France, he was 6'10" (which was confirmed by his brother in a French newspaper after Andre had passed away in 1993).

Andre's brother said that Andre was listed as being 6'9" by the medical examiners which meant that Andre shrunk about an inch from his original height.

So is Big Show taller than Andre was?

And another thing. UT has got to be around the height they bill him at b/c he's pretty close to Big Show.

Weird...if Andre was only 6'10...they must have given him lifts in his shoes.

Cause he was WAY taller than Hogan was in their WrestleMania 3 match...though I don't know how tall Hogan is legit.

I have met Big Show and Hogan in person and for the legit height of the Big Show, I can confidently tell you that he is about 6'10" as him and I were looking at each other eye-to-eye when I met him backstage at a WWF House Show in March of '01.

When I met Hogan at a WCW House Show in August of 1998 he wasn't taller than 6'4"/6'5" which isn't short in wrestling and is one of the most desired sizes of wrestler's (not too short but not to tall).

Aah...interesting...

But probably right, unlike the 6'7-6'8 they used to bill him as.

Let me put it this way:

At a comic book convention in '96, Hogan was signing autographs as one of the special gusts there. Former Incredible Hulk TV actor/bodybuilder Louis Ferrigno was also there signing autographs and pimping his Hulk cartoon show. Hogan had gotten up to grab a bite to eat when as he was walking back to his booth he spotted Ferrigno. The two of them greeted one another and shook hands. Ferrigno was a legit 6'5" when he was a bodybuilder who weighed anywhere from 300 pounds to 310 which was his maximum weight. Hogan and him were the practically the same size with very little height difference between them. When this meeting between the Hulk's took place, I imagine that Ferrigno would have probably been about 6'4" since he was 44 at the time when the convention took place.

Chris, Molly is from Mount Pleasant here in SC. Not very from from me. They actually announced it when RAW came to Charleston and she wrestled some jobber chick, and Molly got a nice hometown reaction throughout the match.

Aaah, I see.

Would be nice to see her announced like that...

Agreed. I wouldn't mind seeing Big Show announced as from SC, either. We tend to get shafted on stuff like that.

Unless Show is announced like that and I just never catch it.

Yeah...I don't think that the Big Show has EVER been given a hometown.

Not in WCW when he was The Giant, and not in WWF/E as the Big Show.

And on the other side of things....is Spike Dudley more or less than 150lbs. Or God-forbid WWE bill him truthfully, and he is 150lbs!

I say more. Just.

Fittingly enough for this thread, I think WWF/E always leave a hometown out in favor of adding emphasis to the 7', 500lbs stats.

Oh well.

I believe The Giant was from the ever famous location of "Parts Of Unknown" and The Big Show is from Tampa Florida.

I think the only current WWE wrestler thats from parts unknown is Kane, but when he debuted they should of said he was from Death Valley.

I think that ECW was the first to say that he was 155 pounds.

I think I heard he's really 180 something.

On the A&E biography of Andre the Giant, they said that at his death he was 7'4 and weighed 485 pounds. His medical condition said that he never stopped growing so when he first started out he very well could have been 6'10 but in his WWF glory days he was most likely a legit 7'2 though billed as 7'4. When he was 18 he was 6'6.

Gonzales is the fuckin' man.

The A&E Biography's on professional wrestling are heavily kayfabed for the most part as they left out many important facts about certain wrestler's and the promotions.

In order to not ruin the legend of Andre, the WWF asked A&E to keep Andre's real height be kept a secret as to not ruin the image that he had been given. Andre did weigh over 500 pounds when he did die in 1993 which was obese for even someone of his size.

The thing that almost blew Andre's cover was when Andre was at a Lakers game in LA. Andre was apparently a big fan of Wilt Chamberlin's and wanted a picture with him. Andre stood next to Wilt who was a legit 7'4" and it was very apparent that Andre was shorter than Wilt. This picture made the rounds in the local newspaper when a reporter got a hold of it which broke kayfabe for many WWA LA fans who had seen Andre wrestle.
