I was "let go" from work this past Friday...

I was working a temp job for the past four months, it was great. I was working in a mill in the lab, and it was easy as hell. There were almost no rules except come to work, do your job, and leave when everyone else does, it was great. It was me, and a girl working the same job. They let me go however, saying they needed to cut back, but kept her on. Which brings me, to this...

 

...where we worked, there was only one other whom we worked close with, another woman. This other woman and the girl that was hired with me always talked to each other, and became REALLY good friends. They would talk about "woman" stuff and whatnot, stuff that I couldn't get into if you know what I mean. It got to the point where I was almost invisible to either one of them, as they became so close. This girl that I was hired with had a b/f also, who worked somewhere else, but a guy where we both worked started hitting on her, and she began to get really involved with him. This new guy just so happened to be best friends with about everyone at the plant, including the other woman we worked with.

 

I feel I was let go, and not her, simply because of one thing...

 

...she has a vagina, and I do not.

 

I feel that they let me go because the other two became such good friends, and that because she was now involved by a guy at work. I know this is a reason, because they didn't give me any reason that they let me go, other than saying they needed to cut back. This girl came to work MANY times with a hangover throughout these four months, and would sleep all day and do nothing. She would go into a room and lay on a desk durring the day and sleep for an entire hour, EVERY day. I don't know, maybe I'm bitter, but I am majorly pissed off.

 

Is it right that this could happen, or not? I'm just rambling, and wanted to tell someone, don't mind me. It's now time for me to start looking for a new job again, and I hate it. It took me over a year to find this one, and now I have to do it all again.

Well that is simply shitty. I'll admit I have a very good relationship with my boss, mainly because I'm very much like her. The only thing that seperates us is my use of common sense and her lack thereof. But letting you go, giving no explaination other than we need to cut back is bullshit. I would have demanded a real reason, in fact I still would be curious of the reason.

I was working through a temp agency, so in that case they can let you go for any reason, any reason at all.

I work for a temp agency. It is the shittiest excuse for a job ever. I left a good paying job that I Hated to for this job which is an easy job, but since I am working through the temp agency and not the actual company, we don't get ANY perks or "benefits" One thing that hurts the most is no holiday pay. Also, we will never get raises. So even though over 50% of us are temps, and every bit of work we handle EQUALLY, we will NEVER get recognition for it.....oh well, I need to get my lazy ass out there an look for a better job, but the market is shit right now.....

I f'n HATE the work force -- I'm amazed at how many people get jobs because of people they know within the organization. I have a handful of stories regarding my employment search plight due to the fact I have a penis.

 

Another thing, temp agencies are a joke, and I will NEVER go to one ever again.

 

Just wish everyone involved with your situation a slow, painful death. You'll feel better. Trust me...

I had a 45-minute phone interview with a physician recently and after grilling me on what kind of work I could do for him for all that time and whatnot, how does he end the interview?

 

"I think I would rather have a woman for this position."

 

I hung up on the bastard.

Oh that's funny -- and not in a ha-ha way.

 

I love those interviews where they tell you how hard the job is and all the experience their ideal candidate needs.

 

After you volley back each serve they throw at you, they then conclude that you are over-qualified.

 

I've been to interviews where I was asked if I would have a problem working in an all-female department. Damn, if I only pulled a Linda Tripp *cough cough United Way/F&W Publications*

 

I had an interview for a dream job in November and they were looking for someone w/ a BA and several years media relations/publications experience -- they hired someone w/ an Associates Degree str8 out of Community College. Now I'm not dissing CC because I went to one for 2 years before moving on, and those were the 2 most enjoyable years of my academic life. But damn was I pissed. After nearly a month of trying to contact the bitch I interview with I finally got a hold of her and found out who they hired. I then wished her a slow painful death (I won't go into more detail). I also just sent her a Xmas card saying the same thing.

 

One thing which PISSES me off about the job search is that the people interviewing you are such dumbf*cks that you wonder how they got their job. The biggest irk for me is when they say they'll call after the interview and never do. Don't they realize that this reflects poorly on them and their organization.

 

I got one douchebag that just pulled this with me, and I'm in the process of sending a letter to the owner of the company. Will it do any good? Probably not. But damn, how do these people not realize how bad they present themselves.
