Who has the momentum

Recommended Posts

Guest y2jailbait

New England Patriots 2001 = New York Jets 2002

I honestly believe that the New York Jets have the blessed momentum going into the NFL playoffs. Thats not being biased because of my love for the Jets

Who do you think has the momentum, and does it matter based on the talent involved this year?

both Ny teams and tenn

i think the jets and giants will win their 1st round matchups but i dont see giants beating philly or TB or the jets beating Oakland.

actually Jets beating Oakland seems more likely that the giants advancing twice

Here's the teams that I think have momentum going into the playoffs:

-N.Y. Jets

-N.Y. Giants

-Oakland [i was impressed with their shutout on Saturday]

-Tennessee [despite being played close by the Texans on Sunday]

-Cleveland

Notice how most of these teams are in the AFC. The Giants have been on a winning streak, and I think they're the only NFC team to have any real momentum. Tampa Bay is depending on a healthy Brad Johnson to take them past the Divisional round, while Philadelphia will have to see if McNabb will be ready in two weeks. Green Bay was blown out yesterday, so I have to wonder how they'll respond on Saturday, and the Falcons lost yesterday in a close game to the Browns. As for the 49ers, they've been trying to rest people since they lost to Green Bay a few weeks ago.

Am I the only one who believes The Giants can/will beat The Niners ?

Remember Week One ? It took a last minute Field Goal by Jose Cortez(That's his name, right? Wasn't he released not too long ago?) to defeat The Giants, who are way better now compared to Week One.

Anyway, I have faith in my Team, win or lose. At least we can say we made The Playoffs.

Green Bay's fucked. Winning the division so early was the worst thing that could happen, since they really haven't had much to play for in the second half of the season. The Packers better get their heads out of their asses or they'll be gonzo in the Wild Card. I'd say the Eagles have the momentum, since they believe they can (and have) win with ANYONE at QB.

In the AFC, if we take how the Patriots won, it's between the Jets and Titans right now (both teams have followed the Pats' pattern almost exactly).

I think Cleveland has a good deal going in. They'll be fired up for the Steelers. Plus they're 6-2 on the road.

All Browns-bias aside from my standpoint, I really think The Jets should be a VERY feared team this postseason. The Giants are extremely tough and will probably beat the 49ers, but either The Eagles or The Bucs SHOULD handle them.

But always remember: NEVER count out The Browns!

Hey, I agree. Is it set where Green Bay would go after the first round? I feel we've got a better shot against Philadelphia than Tampa. A victory over Philadelphia I give about a 45% probability, a victory over Tampa is only about 30% though.

I honestly think we'll kick it into overdrive for the playoffs.

The 49ers are similarly fucked like we are. They've been playing half-speed and very soft the last two weeks. The Giants have momentum to boot. New York BIG in that one.

In my opinion the teams with the best momentum are

Philly

TB

Oakland

Tenn.

A week off to rest and watch your potential opponents play their hardest game of the season so far and only having to win one home game to get to the conference championship is the best momentum you can have.

The Pats of last year was too unpredictable to try and actually pick who will be this year's Pats.

The teams I would fear facing right now though are the Giants and the Jets.

The player I would fear covering would be Jeremy Shockey.

The guy's attitude is insane when he has something to play for. Added he's in the playoffs? Watch the fuck out, Niners.

If Tiki can get his act together, and Collins keep doing what he's doing... the Giants have a good chance.

Giants and Jets have the momentum, but as a New York football fan for many years, I've seen them choke too many times to have much faith.

Both probably advance in the first round, but I'm thinking the Bucs take the NFC and the Raiders the AFC...leading to a Super Bowl I don't really care about. ::shrug::

I love the Niners to death, but I think the Giants are going to win.

The Niner's defense sucks big balls, they won't be able to stop the Giants.

My Super Bowl picks: Giants vs Raiders

Who I hope is in the Super Bowl: Niners vs Jets

I can't say anyone in the NFC has anything resembling momentum aside from the Giants. But I can't really see them doing much, possibly because I'm still having nightmares about the last time the Giants made the Super Bowl and how bad that game was.

In the AFC I'd say Oakland and Tennessee are definitely the teams to beat. Jets are too inconsistent, as are the Browns (but they can play with anyone).

Philly is going to be tough to beat, but you have to question whether the 6-7 weeks McNabb has been on the shelf will effect him.

The Jets definitely have some momentum going in and their coach is one hell of a motivator. I see them beating Indy, but not going anywhere else.

Oakland won 7 of their last 8 games. If that's not momentum I don't know what is.

The Giants haven't lost in December. They still have a lot of the players that reached the Super Bowl 2 years ago and with an added sparkplug like Shockey added to the mix, don't be surprised if they are back representing the NFC.

All in all, I am going with Oakland vs Tampa Bay or Philly with NY Giants as my darkhorse.

I know not one Niner fan to say such a thing, shame on you. Giants were lucky to get into the playoffs. Barber is good, but Hearst and Owens are better. Niners all the way baby.

The Giants have big momentum.

They got a win over the Eagles and the Eagles are close to being the Super Bowl team this year. Hell, they really beat them 7-21, but because of bullshit calls it didn't end that way.

Shockey, Collins, and Toomer have been great the past weeks and if NY can get Barber to have a day he did on Saturday WITHOUT the fumbles then the Giants WILL win.

If the Niners do win, it will NOT be a blowout.

I don't see giants defeting the 49ners. Garcia would tear that secondary apart with the selections of receivers he has, as well as Hurst can do some outs as well. Garcia is one of the most consistant QB's in the game, and a great QB under pressure

If Kerry Collins isn't on his game, then Giants would be murdered, as he could easily pick apart San Fran. secondary. Its all going to come down to the running game For that game.

Superbowl picks:

AFC: Tennessee vs Oakland

NFC: Tampa Bay vs San Fran.

Superbowl: Oakland vs San. Fran

As much as I hate to say it since they eliminated the Patriots, the Jets look good and if they play as they have the past few weeks, they can win the Super Bowl.

If blank team can avoid turning the ball over, playing well on D, and having a strong running game they have a chance at making the Super Bowl.
