Guest kingkamala Report post Posted December 31, 2002 Poison Def Leppard Milli Vanilli Vanilla Ice New Kids on The Block Duran Duran The Bee Gees Rick Springfield Cyndi Lauper The Village People Poison: Ehhh a few of there songs were inoffensive pop songs. *dodges flaming garbage Def Leppard: Good for nostaligia and a lot of their older stuff is tolerable. Milli Vanilli: Ummmm.....they made the music industry realize that least a smidgen of talent is neccessary. Vanilla Ice: The fact that he faked his past about three times is semi funny. New Kids on The Block: Ehhh a bit better then the Backstreet Boys and N Sync I guess. Duran Duran: Like Def Leppard, good for nostalgia. And they were pretty much the first band to add storylines to music videos. The Bee Gees: A lot of there stuff was tolerable fluff. Rick Springfield: Umm.....nope blatent Bruce Springsteen rip off. Cyndi Lauper: No I'm sorry I just can't. The Village People: I realized what bands NOT to follow. When I was six or seven I had a brief obsession with the Village People *shudders*
Guest Incandenza Report post Posted December 31, 2002 Okay, this thread's more like it: Poison--Cheesy fun. I'll readily admit to enjoying "Unskinny Bop." Def Leppard--Equally cheesy, though less fun. "Bringing On the Heartbreak" is good for a few laughs. Milli Vanilli--VH1's Behind the Music actually got me to feel sorry for them. Vanilla Ice--His looking like a pussy in Celebrity Boxing brought me amusement. New Kids on The Block--I got nothing. I don't even enjoy making fun of them. Duran Duran--Some of their early 80s stuff, like "Rio" and "Hungry Like the Wolf," are pretty good songs. The Bee Gees--Faith No More made me appreciate "I Started a Joke" a lot more. Rick Springfield--His "Jesse's Girl" was used to memorable effect in Boogie Nights. He deserves almost as much credit as Paul Thomas Anderson does for it. Cyndi Lauper--Bleh, I can't. The Village People--More cheesy fun. I've no complaints.
Guest Kinetic Report post Posted December 31, 2002 Was the original thread successful enough to warrant a sequel? This is like Battlefield Earth II. Ah, whatever. Poison: They were successful in an area that all other 80s hair rock bands were not: They actually looked like girls, specifically on the cover of Look What The Cat Dragged In. Making an ugly man like C.C. DeVille resemble a comely young lass is no small feat, I assure you. Def Leppard: They have not, as of yet, driven me to suicide. Milli Vanilli: They were exposed as a fraud and helped shine just a little more light on what a ridiculous sham the Grammys are. NKOTB: The street-tough image they adopted just prior to falling off the face of the planet is one of the great miscalculations in music history. MC Hammer: The street-tough image he adopted just prior to falling off the face of the planet is one of the great miscalculations in music history. The Bee Gees: They helped overexpose disco into the cold, hard ground. Rick Springfield: Is this the "Jessie's Girl" guy? If so, that song is not as intolerable as you might imagine. It's right up there with "867-5309" with 80s songs that transcend mediocrity; planting their flag in the dangerous new terrain of sub-mediocrity, where songs like "Round and Round" are perfectly okay to sing along to, just so long as you do it with ironic detachment. ROUND AND ROUND! Cyndi Lauper: She's so unusual. And she did a video with Cpt. Lou Albano. The Village People: Not what I would consider a real band. They were, in a possibly unintentional gesture, a scathing parody of the prototypical boy band. You have the "characters" or the personality types, which usually just covers the ground of the goofy one, the cute one, the serious one, etc. The Village People took it to a ridiculous extreme by actually dressing up as characters, like the police man, the Indian, the construction worker, and so on. Brilliant. And they took the homoerotic tension inherent in a bunch of sweaty, virile young men passionately performing together on stage (and singing songs that could be construed as homosexual come-ons, possibly to each other) and went completely over the top with that, performing songs that were obviously about homosexuality. The Village People were just the most unintentionally brilliant thing to come out of the 1970s and I salute them for it.
Guest Kinetic Report post Posted December 31, 2002 I replied to this, but the board refuses to acknowledge it. This is a post to rectify the situation and nothing more. Carry on.

Guest Phr33k Report post Posted December 31, 2002 Def Leppard: Dunno. Milli Vanilli: Marketable, considering how many records they sold. Vanilla Ice: Kinda like it, the way I like intestinal flu (j/K.) I liked the song from the TMNT movie, because I was 5 and all... New Kids on The Block: Made everyone who's not 11 years old and female realize the suckitude of boy-bands. Duran Duran: Catchy stuff. The Bee Gees: They're my fave band. Seriously. Great songwriting, and Robin's voice is only second to Freddie Mercury's. Rick Springfield: Umm... Don't know him. Cyndi Lauper: Wrestling manager. The Village People: Well... if you like flaming queers...
Guest Kinetic Report post Posted December 31, 2002 Yeah, but it wasn't showing up that I'd posted next to the topic in the other page. It's a moot point now, but I refuse to post and not have my legions of adoring fans know about it because of a glitch. Fuck that.
Guest IDrinkRatsMilk Report post Posted December 31, 2002 Posion: I like Unskinny Bop. Def Leppard: I was in a band called Deaf Leopard. The name wouldn't have been possible without them. Milli Vanilli: had a guest shot on the Mario Bros cartoon Vanilla Ice: I enjoy the movie Cool As Ice in a MST3K way NKOTB: MAD magazine ripped on them endlessly (New Kids on the Blech)... I loved it Duran Duran: I have no real problem with them Bee Gees: Starred in Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Etc... I like it like I like Cool As Ice. Rick Springfield: I'm indifferent to Rick Springfield Cyndi Lauper: did a song about masturbation Village People: great band for gay men

Paul Stanley 0 Report post Posted December 31, 2002 More bands: Dire Straits King Kobra Warrant Whitesnake Night Ranger -- On a off topic note..Dustin Rhodes used a WCW-remix of "Money For Nothing" in 91-93 until it was replaced by "Natural"
Guest kingkamala Report post Posted December 31, 2002 Dire Straits: Hey now! The whole video for "Walk of Life" was sports bloopers, that's comic gold. King Kobra: Don't know enough about them. Warrant: Heaven is an OK power ballad. Whitesnake: A lot of their stuff was tolerable. I think it's hillarious that at one of my cousin's graduations the whole class sang" Here I go Again". Hmm my cousin must have gone to the same high school as Metal Ed. Night Ranger: Sister Christian is one of my top 10 favorite power ballads.....seriously. Guest IDrinkRatsMilk Report post Posted December 31, 2002 Depeche Mode is one of my favorite groups. People hate Depeche Mode? I hear they're gay sometimes, but I've never picked up much Mode hate.

Guest nl5xsk1 Report post Posted December 31, 2002 Poison - The girl in the Every Rose Has It's Thorn video had an incredible ass (the girl in the beginning of the video, in bed with the singer ... I don't want any jokes about which guy in the band did I think was a girl) Def Leppard - New Wave of British Metal, some of their really early work is good (i.e. Photograph) Milli Vanilli - made a smart business decision: chose style over substance, and made a ton of money doing it. Vanilla Ice - see Milli Vanilli. New Kids on The Block - they're from Boston. That's the most positive thing I can say. And "No More Games" was as good of a song as they ever did. Duran Duran - my older sister made me listen to a ton of their records growing up ... I still keep some of the songs on the radio today. The Bee Gees - disco sucks. Rick Springfield - he was on General Hospital, which was a pretty cool soap opera back in the day. Cyndi Lauper - again, see Milli Vanilli comment. The Village People - who hasn't done YMCA at a wedding reception?!? Any group that wrote a song that is everlastingly played at receptions was doing something right. Morris Day & The Time - Purple Rain was a funny ass movie, and they helped make it so. Apollonia 6 - wasn't she topless in Purple Rain?!? If so, she's put together well (the closest to positive as I can say) RATT - no comments Slaughter - no comments
Guest gangsteruwa Report post Posted December 31, 2002 Wow, I'm really bored to be doing this. I took out the names of people I have never listened to. Poison - they had that one song that wasn't too bad....it is newer, don't know the name. Def Leppard - their behind the music was great Milli Vanilli - that one guy killed himself, thus stopping them from ever showing up again Vanilla Ice - we hit mad man pondo with a stop sign New Kids on The Block - i like listening to them talk, boston accents rule Duran Duran - never really listened to them, so i don't know The Bee Gees - those dudes can sing really freaking high Cyndi Lauper - made a song about masturbation The Village People - good source of jokes RATT - milton berle Slaughter - cool name Dire Straits - weird al covered them Warrant - cherry pie chick Whitesnake - hot chicks in their videos Asia - i like asian women...but that's a different thing all together Killer Dwarfs - awesome name Depeche Mode - from Orgazmo "i'm not a queer or nothing, but depeche mode is a sweet band." Other than that comment, I have no idea.

Guest hardyz1 Report post Posted January 1, 2003 Something regarding New Kids On The Block: Back when I was in second grade, they were huge. My sister loved them and had a bunch of their tapes. I didn't really care for them, though I was in the middle of my transition from country to pop. Anyway, back around that time, I was watching MTV and they showed the video for "Hangin' Tough". I had seen it before, no big deal. But at the end of the video it showed the guys leaving the arena, only to be met by a big mob of people with weapons. Not guns or knives, no, they had shovels and rakes and axes and things like that. They charged after the guys with their weapons, and just as they were about to strike, the video ended. Now, did this video actually exist, or was it a dream? This has been puzzling me for years.
