Guest Youth N Asia Posted January 2, 2003 Report Posted January 2, 2003 Randumb Movie Thread Time... Donnie Darko. Alright, I saw the movie this afternoon and still don't know what to think of it. I really enjoyed it, I thought it was funny and a little spooky. It was at least something different. I understand about the airplane and whatnot, the time travel, and crashing into the house. Any reason he died at the end/beginning, but not at the beginning/end? Seemed like his whole month was kinda wasted, since it never really existed after all...did it? Did he die in order to save those other people (the girl and her mom who turned up missiing) And what about Frank? Anyway, very cool movie, worth watching...thoughts?
Guest Harry Hood Posted January 2, 2003 Report Posted January 2, 2003 Yeh this is one of my favorite movies and the first movie i bought on DVD. What had happened was in my opinion, Donnie started having visions of Frank who introduced the time loopholes that can exist. Which was why their wsa no airplane at the beginning of the movie that recorded the engine being lost. So Donnie goes on wiht his life, meets his gf, floods the school, burns down Jim's house, exposes Jim, causes his mom to go to the championship, inadvertantly kills his gf, kills Frank, etc.. At this point he realizes what the time meant and that after conferring with his teacher and writing to R. Sparrow, knows that he has a second chance. Knowing all the bad he caused, he chose to allow himself ot be killed, Thus "righting" all that he did wrong in the month. On the DVD it is shown that Frank is actually a way to be used of divine intervention so as to show Donnie what would happen if he lived, kinda like It's a Wonderful Life. Also on the DVD which isn'tr eally explained is that Frank is his sister's boyfriend. But all in all, it's a great movie, I acutlly checked out the deleted scenes again today and they really shed some cool light on the movie. and check out www.donniedarko.com too for some really good extra stuff. Suck a Fuck
Guest Fook_Hing_Ho Posted January 2, 2003 Report Posted January 2, 2003 IMO, Donnie Darko is a greatly underrated movie. I always mark out for the guy dressed as Hogan during the Halloween party.
