Guest MillenniumMan831 Posted January 3, 2003 Report Posted January 3, 2003 Hey everyone, I'm not too experienced at the video ranting business; I've only done two so far (Rowdy Roddy Piper's Greatest Hits and Raw Attitude). However, I really want to do videos that have never been reviewed before. Since I don't remember seeing rants for these 5 videos, I figured "What the hey?" Voting ends sometime Monday and the review should be in The Smarks Krew folder w/in that week. Remember, YOUR vote counts!!! (off camera) Did that sound convincing enough?
Guest Black Tiger Posted January 3, 2003 Report Posted January 3, 2003 I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but none of those tapes are particularly good, Andre The Giant is probably the best of them. If you have it, I'd recommend watching Best of WWF Vol. 11, probably the best pre 1990's Coliseum Video ever produced.
Guest MillenniumMan831 Posted January 3, 2003 Report Posted January 3, 2003 I understand that but all the good Coliseum Videos have either been ranted by SK and/or someone at 411 or elsewhere. I do own all 20 Best of WWF Videos and enjoy great workrate as much as anyone else but I also believe there is a place for the light-hearted goofy antics of the WWF in the 1980's. Just my two cents.
Guest Black Tiger Posted January 3, 2003 Report Posted January 3, 2003 I wound up voting for Andre because that's the best one, I'd hate to have to sit through the Ken Patera Story. Best of WWF Vol. 11 is one of very (very) few Coliseum tapes SK hasn't touched, if you know of someone else who has then let me know, I'd love to read a review of it. How did you manage to get all 20? I got vol 2, 6-11, and 13, 14, 15, 17, 18, and 19.
Guest MillenniumMan831 Posted January 3, 2003 Report Posted January 3, 2003 I got 1-4 at a video store closing sale. The rest can be accredited to ebay. After about 8 months of searching and hunting, I managed to score them all and I never paid more than $15 for each one. Volume 11 is VERY good. Likewise, 10 and 12 are VERY bad. The upside to a tape like Patera is that the segments are either very short or laughably bad. He may have a 4 minute match vs. Honky here, a weird debate with Bobby Heenan there, and some heel Patera footage sprinkled in. Of course the ***** will not make an appearance but I loved the formats of the old Coliseum Videos. Plus, The Managers tape has the debut of Elizabeth The Andre tape has the afro-cutting match The Animal Steele tape has uhhhh . . . well a lot of 3 minute George Steele matches The Albano tape has the whole saga between him, Cyndi Lauper, and Roddy Piper. Some interesting stuff that intertwines w/ The WrestleMania main event. I'll probably do a review of Best of WWF Volume 11 this week too since I know it'll be good and school soesn't start till a week from Monday.
Guest BAR Posted January 3, 2003 Report Posted January 3, 2003 I'll go with Amazing Managers, Bobby Heenan?
Guest MillenniumMan831 Posted January 3, 2003 Report Posted January 3, 2003 I'll go with Amazing Managers, Bobby Heenan? He's the host!
Guest Bruiser Chong Posted January 3, 2003 Report Posted January 3, 2003 Plus, The Managers tape has the debut of Elizabeth The whole bidding for Macho Man angle was some funny stuff, especially the segment with all of the managers trying to convince Savage why he should pick them. Vince nearly creams himself when Elizabeth first appears. That tape is pretty much all segments, but there are some matches in there, but mostly segments of the nature that defined the WWF in the late 80s. The Andre tape has the afro-cutting match That's pretty historic, but a fairly bland tape, as Andre wasn't the most interesting wrestler to cover in that fashion, as most of the matches are from the era when he began to fall apart. A bitch to find at a good price, though. The Animal Steele tape has uhhhh . . . well a lot of 3 minute George Steele matches I think that's one of the worst CV videos I own. There are over a dozen matches, with none lasting over five minutes (thank god), and almost all of them ending with Steele getting counted out or DQed. Awful tape, but another hard to find one. The Albano tape has the whole saga between him, Cyndi Lauper, and Roddy Piper. Some interesting stuff that intertwines w/ The WrestleMania main event. I actually enjoyed that tape, as you get totally caught up with the whole angle with him and Lauper, just because everything's covered so thoroughly. Got it off eBay in September of 2000, but still haven't watched it. Watched it when I rented it back in 1996 though, and I still remember quite a bit from it. Best of the WWF Volumes 7, 11, and 14 should still be reviewed as I don't think I've seen them reviewed on the 'net, unless SK reviewed 7, which I don't think he did. Even if he did, it should be redone, as he halfassed a lot of those CV rants. Villains of the Squared Circle hasn't been done either, and that's a pretty good tape as well.
Guest Black Tiger Posted January 6, 2003 Report Posted January 6, 2003 IIRC SK reviwed vol. 8, 9, 10, 12, and 13. He may have done 7 and I missed it, but he had no real order to them so its pain in the ass to hunt down. The Albano tape has the Piper feud and a decent match (Samoans vs. Adonis/Murdoch w/ Lou as the ref). In Heenan's book he taked abut the debate w/ Patera and how he had a ton of jokes that McMahon wouldn't let him use "Would you like some, Stickybuns? I mean, would you like some sticky buns" I spent the better part of 6 years hunting down Coliseum tapes, I got a lot of them Factory sealed, I was after one guy to sell me TWO sealed tapes of Bloopers Bleeps and Bodyslams, so I coud have one to watch and one to keep sealed, but he wouldn't go for it.
Guest MillenniumMan831 Posted January 7, 2003 Report Posted January 7, 2003 Alright, voting over. The Amazing Managers wins. I'll start on it now and I MAY do Best of WWF Volume 11 as well, just as long as I can get both done by Sunday night because school starts up again Monday. Combine that with full time work and that equals very little time for these reviews.
Guest Black Tiger Posted January 7, 2003 Report Posted January 7, 2003 don't worry bro, life at home comes way before giving snowflake ratings to wrestling matches.
