Japanese import wrestling games: Who here plays?

Recommended Posts

Guest Downhome

I have Giant Gram 2000, Fire Pro Wrestling D, and Toukon Restuden 4, all for the Dreamcast. I used to have the Fire Pro G for the PSX when I still had my PSX (sold it when I got my PS2). So, speak on this, 'cause I want to know.

More importantly, who here still PLAYS them? I do, all the freaking time, so I'm just wondering, thanks!

Sincerely,

...Downhome...

I also have the fire pro d and giant gram 2000 games. just recently, i picked up some old japanese videogames for the SNES including a WAR videogame (it's horrible) and an FMW game (it sucks too). Super Fire ProWrestling X Premium, on the other hand, is just an excellent game on par with the dreamcast version.

and yes, I still play them. Hell, for SD4 and No Mercy, I just created a shitload of Japanese guys and played as them anyway so I would prefer to grab a copy of VPW2 so I could just save some cash on other wrestling games.

So, does anyone know where I can pick up either a cartridge OR emulator and RoM for VPW2?

I play them all the time ever since I gave up on Shut Your Mouth after a week. Back in the day all I played was Toukon Retsuden and Fire Pro G on my old PS, before moving on to Virtual Pro Wrestling 2.

The last couple months I've been playing All Star Pro-Wrestling 2 and recently King of Colosseum has been my Puro game of choice taking up countless hours of my time.

That game is AWESOME, yes it is. Pick it up on eBay, usually for very very cheap, no more than $20. I've never seen a ROM of it, so there ya go. You need an adapter to play it, but those aren't much either. Just get it, it is a MUST HAVE.

My suite at college played a shitload of GG2K before we lost the translation guide and stumbled onto Soul Calibur for $20 at our local Gamespot.

I'm still trying to pull together a copy of FPD, though...

And, for a dialogue slightly off the beaten path, doesn't VPW2 have the "shoot-style" competition mode in it?

If you have a fast connection or a cd burner I can get FPD to you, or you can always pay me for a "blank" CD.

Why did you give up on GG2K?

By the way, why does it seem that most of the quality wrestling games come from Japan?

We never gave up on GG2K - it's an awesome game. But for us Soul Calibur-deprived souls who had never had a DC before Sega went third-party, SC has become a new religious work of choice.

...so, er, we'll come back to it. But only after this SC match...

Okay, something I've been wondering about the Fire Pro series...

I know they're Japan-based, but they released Fire Pro A for GBA in the States. Is there a US release planned for a PS2 installment of Fire Pro? Because I desperately want to check out this series, but I'm too cheap to order import and an adaptor.

Spike is currently developing Firo Pro Wrestling Z for the PS2. There's a small ad for it in the back of the King of Colosseum booklet. I doubt a US release would come, unless Bam fixes their problems soon.

I have Giant Gram 2000, Fire Pro Wrestling D, and Toukon Restuden 4 for the Dreamcast along with Fire Pro Wrestling G, Toukon Restuden 3, and The Pro Wrestling 2 for PSX. I havent played the ones on PSX in the longest time, but i tend to play Giant Gram 2000 on occasion.

ok corey, go to this site...

http://www.thenationnet.com/index/emulators/snesemu

download the emulator of your choice ( i use snes9x, myself)

then go to this site....

http://www.firewrestling.com

go under the firepro section and you can download a couple of the games to check out the ins and outs of the fire pro system. while firepro d is considerably better, the super nintendo versions are setup basically the same so you can tell if you will enjoy the gameplay. once you get the hang of the controls, you won't put it down.

NOW, can someone help me out with a vpw2 rom and emulator?

I'm contemplating doing a review of Kinnikuman 2 - AKI's latest wrestling game for the GameCube and the spiritual successor to No Mercy and Virtual Pro Wrestling 2.

If there's any kind of interest for it, I guess it would be from people from this thread. I'll almost certainly do Def Jam Vendetta when that comes out, because rappers aside, I JUST FUCKING LOVE AKI, and I'd buy a fucking Barbie fighting game if they were behind it.

I did a review of VPW 2 on Smark Talk a while back. VPW 2 is the best AKI game for N64 HANDS DOWN and it came out close to a year before No Mercy.

Just download the GBA roms. They're around 4MB or so, and well worth the ~30 minutes it takes to d/l. It's how I first discovered the series (I went on to buy my Dreamcast solely for the purpose of playing FPD).

You've never battled Downhome, now have you? I wish their was some sort of mod to allow this to be played on the net, since the DC is already able to go online.

Fire Pro D.

Kinnuuman 2? You mean there is a Kinnuman game?

Yup. Kinnikuman 2-Yo Generations, I think. It's available from most importers. AKI engine, cel-shading, TOTAL anime flavour... shit hot, in other words.

If you haven't got a modded GameCube, it's coming out in the States as Ultimate Muscle in March(ish), although you probably won't get the ten free kinnikuman figures that you get with the Jap one. I'm an AKI wrestling completist, and since I bought every N64 grappler they did, I'll probably get the US version of this, too.

Doesn't one of the SNES emulators support Kaillera, or something similar? I seem to remember some guys on IRC talking about playing the SNES Fire Pro online.
