Zorin Industries 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2003 One question for you Tom, what is your opinion of Sharon and the job he has done?
Guest DrTom Report post Posted January 10, 2003 I think Sharon gets a bad rap for some of the things in his past, and that perception adds to inexplicable worldwide sympathy for Arafat. Overall, he's done a decent job keeping things together as best he can. I think he made a serious tactical error by not killing Arafat when they had his building surrounded for four days. At this point, he has very, very few options to get any kind of lasting peace. They've tried diplomacy, and answering piecemeal violence with piecemeal violence hasn't stopped anything. I certainly don't envy him, nor some of the decisions he faces.

He has remorselessly escalated the conflict and played on every little Palestinian and Israeli xenophobic feeling to stay in power. He wants nothing more than to keep the conflict going so that he can maintain his hold over the Israeli people to distract them from the fact that he's a shit prime minister. He's a murderer and a war criminal. Everything he does is motivated by career and political aims. Hell, he doesn't even want to ban the Israeli Arabs from Parliament because they're Arabs, like a good little racist, no, he wants to ban them so that they won't vote against him and create a majority that will drive Sharon's shitty little Likud party out of power. So similar to Arafat, both utter bell-ends.

There are no Palestianian Jews or Christians... http://www.palestinecenter.org/cpap/pubs/2...20020312ib.html Go to yahoo and type in "Palestinian Christians". Tom, I agree that Arafat isn't a good leader, and doesn't want peace. Just because he doesn't, it doesn't mean that Israel should shy away from a peaceful solution. Israel has been searching for a military solution since 1999, but it doesn't seem to be working, does it? The UN, US, EU and Russia need to come up with a peaceful solution. Israel will do what the US says, their entire economy depends on US aid, and likewise Palestine will do what the EU/UN says. For the record, I am not CWM. Guest DrTom Report post Posted January 11, 2003 The UN, US, EU and Russia need to come up with a peaceful solution. I'd really rather see us stay out of it. Then again, I've never been a big fan of rushing in where angels fear to tread just because there's a conflict happening somewhere else in the world. If the EU and the UN want to handle it, let them. Maybe the UN would finally get something accomplished. ... and likewise Palestine will do what the EU/UN says I wouldn't bet the house on that one. Arafat gets a lot of money (and so do the families of his homicide bombers) from radical Muslim regimes. I think he's more likely to do what they say (and his people will follow) unless someone shows themselves to be the stronger horse. For the record, I am not CWM. I guess your IPs (both of them) led me to believe that you were.
