Guest Downhome Report post Posted January 7, 2003 I find it very weird how just listening to a song, can totally take you to another place and time in your mind. You could be doing something totally not thinking, but when you hear a song it can just lift you up and take you back into the past, in your mind. I think everyone has at least one song that does this, more than any other, and I'm just currious as to what yours is. It doesn't have to mean you like the song, not at all, just something that was a special part of your life, that takes you back to way back when. For me, the one song that takes me back more than any other is "My Heart Will Go On" by Celine Dion. You guys hate this song with a passion, but it takes me back to when I was truly in love with my ex girlfriend, way back in '97 and '98. The end of the movie Titanic, that she drug me too (I ended up loving the film, so kiss my ass) is a moment that was very powerfull in our relationship, as I truly feel that at that moment, we both realized we really loved one another, but our relationship would never work out anymore (we broke up about four or five months later). We didn't say anything then, but I feel that was the moment we both truly knew. It was one of the most important moments of my life, and I'll never forget it. When I hear this song, I am instantly taken back to a time when I was at the same time the happiest I'd ever been, the most scared I'd ever been, and the saddest I'd ever been. Sincerely, ...Downhome...
Guest JLuv0309 Report post Posted January 7, 2003 Rump Shaker-Wrecks and Effect...takes me back totally to fifth grade...I was friends with people who I never talked to again after that. Some of those people I did end up talking to and are my best friends now. Personally, it was my funnest year in school...right before everything started to change and people started being people...very innocent...good times...plus i remember my mom not wanting me to listen to that song... Guest IDrinkRatsMilk Report post Posted January 7, 2003 The album Antichrist Superstar takes me back... it was playing when I lost my virginity to this foxy goth chick. Particularly the song Dried Up, Tied, and Dead to the World, as that's what was on at the moment of penetration.
Guest Incandenza Report post Posted January 7, 2003 I wanna have sex with a goth girl! However, I'll be employing a more old school approach to wooing her: Bauhaus. As for a song that takes me back, Aimee Mann's "Save Me" hits the double whammy; for its use in the wonderful film Magnolia, and for personal reasons. Anything off of Wham's Make it Big album also takes me back, due to it being the first cassette I ever owned. "Careless Whisper" was so beautiful, man. Guest Kibagami Report post Posted January 7, 2003 Suicide Machines' Destruction By Definition...the song "Zero" in particular. Of course, it reminds me of stuff I'd rather not remember, most of the time. K.

Guest spiny norman Report post Posted January 7, 2003 I have two songs, both somewhat strange choices: Pet Shop Boys - Go West. When I was four this was my favourite song in the world. I would sit in front of the TV, watching Video Hits, then Go West would come on, I'd jump up and start dancing along. It's one of my few memories from pre-school, so that song is treasured for me. Was Not Was - Walk The Dinosaur. It was played at every school disco until I was about nine. If I want to remember my early childhood around that time, this would be the song. Guest Edwin MacPhisto Report post Posted January 7, 2003 U2's "All I Want Is You" is the requisite Girl Song that brings memories of First True Love, The Sorrow After The Break-Up, and all that junk that everyone experiences at some point. Kinda wish this was, say, something by Sir Mix-A-Lot, cause I could stand to avoid "The Jack Back" or "Seattle Ain't Bullshittin" on account of emotional devastation and what not. To lose a goodie like "All I Want Is You" to the past is a shame. Then there's Prince's "The Cross," which contains the guitar hook that U2 jacked for make "All I Want Is You." It has a similar effect, but more in an ironic empowering way, since it's Prince, and he is funky. Hearing "Like A Prayer" also takes me back to my first few college parties, where I'd watch in awe as people took a half dozen shots and stumbled around to Madonna's Material Girl Era work. Little did I know that, one day, I could be so lucky as to follow in their footsteps.
Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted January 7, 2003 "The Long and Winding Road" was the song of my first girlfriend and I. Also, United Rave Orchestra's "Aufstanden Aus Ruinen" reminds me of her a LOT.

Guest red_file Report post Posted January 7, 2003 I heard "How's It Gonna Be?" not too long ago and was astounded at how it took me back to the early 90s. Amazing and a bit scary.

Guest Kinetic Report post Posted January 7, 2003 Any of the album tracks on Superunknown take me way back to being a pathetic 12 year old pud who had only recently discovered music. Those were different times, but stuff like "The Day I Tried To Live" reminds me that there was a time when I could actually sort of relate to that sentiment. This is the only album from that era that does this for me, which is a good indication of how often I listened to it then and how seldom I've listened to it since. I recall listening to Pavement's Terror Twilight a lot when dating my one "serious girlfriend" thus far, right around the time when that album was released. I cued it up about a week ago, expecting to be flooded with memories and teary-eyed sentimentality. No such luck, sadly.
Guest godthedog Report post Posted January 7, 2003 'closer' by NIN kind of takes me back, cause that was my favorite video ever when i was an angsty pre-teen, and it was the last song that the greatest radio station known to man, channel z in augusta, ever played at midnight in december 1996. i remember turning on the radio at maybe 8 & when i heard they were going under i just stayed in my room and refused to do anything but keep listening to the radio till they were off the air. Guest saturnmark4life Report post Posted January 7, 2003 On holiday with my family throughout my teen years i preferred having my walkman on to actually talking to them. We get along fine I had aenima and stinkfist by tool on a lot, and aenima in particular reminds me of sitting in the back of a car driving around bits of Tenerife and the US admiring the scenery. Lovely.

Guest Zack Malibu Report post Posted January 7, 2003 "Renee" by Lost Boyz. Back in 1996, I worked at my cousin's bakery, and we always had a radio blaring in the back room. One day this song was on, and for a while my cousin, being the ballbuster that he was, started going around telling everyone "Day by day I wonder why my shorty had to die". It was pretty funny, but you had to be there. Unfortunately, said cousin died later that year, and the bakery closed up due to it. Since 1996 is one of my absolute favorite eras, that song always takes me back to being in that bakery, laughing with my cousin.
Guest EricMM Report post Posted January 7, 2003 Anything on the Radio off Dookie from Greenday for middle school... Also "Killing Me Softly" by the Fugees for the same time. Guest FeArHaVoC Report post Posted January 7, 2003 "Cryin'" By Aerosmith Takes me back to 93' when I was dating this girl Jennifer. We broke up and we stayed pretty good friends. In late 1994 she was killed in a Car Accident and that song and album "Get a Grip" reminds me alot of that time.
Guest kingkamala Report post Posted January 7, 2003 *shields self* The song Blue by Eifel 65 reminds me oh happier times in my life, probably some of the most fun times in my life. It was voted "Best Song" in my Middle school year book by the eighth grade class. The song We Are The Champions By Queen brings me back memories to the days of my obsession with Queen and Freddy Mercury to be specific(No not in that way foo'). It brings me back to 94/95, cause that's when I remember first hearing the song(I was a child of the 80's btw) Kriss Kross' Jump, brings me back to the days when I was 5 or 6 and my older brothers and his friends were listening to Kriss Kross' Totally Krossed Out(The album with Kriss Kross' one hit and one semi hit) and Michael Jackson's Dangerous. Guest Insanityman Report post Posted January 8, 2003 Well... I hate to admit it but Incubus' "Drive" reminds me of some of the harder times of my life, yes I did have a few, and it in an odd way perks me up. Makes me realize how good I have it right now, well in ways. Not to mention "Man in the Box" just sums up my feelings when I'm in the angry mood (which is more often than I wished). Must be the Irish genes.
Guest bravesfan Report post Posted January 8, 2003 Sometimes it's not about the song's time or era, that had affected me. It's about how the song itself has "taken me back". As I listen to the song now, I understand how Kid Rock's "Lonely Road of Faith" takes me back to April of 1998. Where as cheesy as it sounds, the faith I held on to, as my father died right there before my eyes, when I never thought I would ever put the pieces back together, came my guiding light of life. The lyrics in that song, still hold true to this day... "Though I walk through the valley of darkness, I am not afraid, Because I know I'm not alone".
