Guest Big Poppa Popick Report post Posted January 8, 2003 To the Fans of the OaOasT, Holding the position of Commissioner and oft-times chief booker of the OaOasT is a very taxing and tough job. Every day it seems the superstars of the fed come to me with new storylines and new feuds, and it is up to me to juggle them, mix them, edit them, and produce them to make as many happen. Sometimes things happen where angles are changed after their initial recommendation, and while this is a painful process, it is normally done to include another OaOasT superstar's ideas. We here at the OaOasT pride ourselves on developing talent while maintaining a sense of openness in the OaOasT locker-room. We would like to never confine any of our wrestlers to one level of the promotion. Several of our projects have worked. AngleSault has been working on bringing Superstar to the next level, and our live crowds are responding well. The push of El Dandy and SpiderPoet along with the reign of MME/Jingus finally gave the OaOasT the beginnings of a healthy tag team division. We have even managed to book Angle-Plex into a credible North American Champion, and he is serving well by helping Thunderkid make the jump. That being said, tensions among the booking staff and our talent named Caboose (Rishi S.) arose recently with his return. Caboose was absent for many months on a promotional tour in India, and his coming back was supposed to serve as a way to bring the luchador NazMistry up in the fans eyes. The first match was great. Caboose began making booking suggestions to our committee which involved himself and a second title run. However, plans had already begun showcase two well-built feuds (Zack/BPP) and (Sandman/Evenflow) as the main builds for the OaOasT title. We, the booking staff, made every attempt to gel Caboose's plans with our own, but quite simply, we felt that passing around the OaOasT title too much would dimish its prestige in front of our audience, and were unable to provide a definite time when Caboose would once again reign as Champion. This did not sit well with our former champion. Personal demons got the better of him one night, and Caboose decided that he would no longer like to continue working with the OaOasT. His severance was immediate. Because of the ongoing aWo/OaOasT storyline with Caboose to serve as the deciding factor of that battle, we were forced to come up with a solution to the problem. One was offered to Caboose and no objection was made. This of course, was the parody on Owen Hart's death. We realize the angle was offensive to many of the Canadian viewers. We apologize for that, and have decided to never air footage of that night again concerning the angle. We did a retake using a stunt double for Caboose and will include that in all future video libraries. Caboose himself was disturbed with the angle after it had been done, but like a professional he went through with it. Upon its ending, Caboose ended up in a physical confrontation with BPP (Stephen Popick) along his way out of the building. It appears that there was miscommunication between our booking staff and the talent involved in the angle. We thank everyone for working through the angle and raising concerns afterwards, but in hindsigh we truly wish our talent would have understood our plans as we had meant them. It is up to us and the locker-room to put this issue behind us and move toward a great AnglePalooza with its terrific-looking Royal Rumble and AS/SS rematch. We remain firmly behind our talent and pride ourselves on having the healthiest locker-room in North America. We also pride ourselves on having the greatest fans, and for that reason, we will offer 25% of our PPV revenue from AnglePalooza to the Hart family to be giving to young, aspiring wrestlers. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Stephen Joseph Popick OaOasT Commissioner
Guest Sandman9000 Report post Posted January 8, 2003 When I first saw what we ran, it just left a bad feeling inside. We call ourselves a parody e-fed, and that gives us free reign to put our own spin on real life events. We spin off of gimmicks from real life, matches from real life, angles from real life, all with our own spin on them. While we may push the envelope at times, myself especially, we had never crossed the line. Monday, we crossed the line. Real life wrestling tragedies have always been taboo. People just don't like to talk about something bad that happens to people they regularily are entertained by. An example, during the best of 2002 RAW ep, highlights were shown of the Owen Hart tribute Raw. Immediately, the fed was blasted, accused of using Owen Hart as a means of boosting ratings for their 10th anniversary special. Meanwhile, we are emulating the actual tragedy, but broadcasting it as a murder. I was not happy with what i saw, and immediately felt the need to distance myself from what was written. I was not upset that it was my character that had "killed" Caboose. Hell, I myself wrote a murder that was broadcasted on IZ. It was just the way the writing off of Caboose took place. Real life wrestling tragedies are things that should not be used or mocked in any form. Angle-Plex is not going to break Zack's neck with a powerbomb. CWM is not going to cut the break lines on Alf's car. SP isn't going to break his neck botching a quebrada. (Droz, Magnum T.A., and Hayabusa if people need references, in order) People do not even like to talk about such subjects, so to actually role-play such a scenario, much less bastardize it, which I feel we did, is crossing the line. A lot of feelings are hurt, and understandably so. But BPP has made the fair enough gesture to apologize for his mistake. People were upset that Zack edited the show. I was not. I feel that if we have the power to recify the mistake, we should. Basically, no kayfabe, not in character, that we've all learned from this, mistakes were made and realized, and we shall move on. We've learned how far the envelope can be pushed, and we know what lines to not cross. Apology acceped, let's move on.
Guest Tony149 Report post Posted January 8, 2003 Next week, Vinnie Mac goes on RAW and announces Survivor Series '97 didn't happen, despite footage being all over the place. In other news -- taboo has been re-named caboo. Okay. Enough joking. I still don't think we should of changed it -- that's like re-writing history -- but we know that segment offended some. We said we're sorry, and we mean it. May that segment join the ranks of OaOast WrestleCrap. And let's go back to doing what we do best...parody wrestling. EDIT: I've changed my opinion on this issuse somewhat. Editing the segment was fine, but we should of kept the original segment in the bookers folder in case we ever wanted to release a history of the OaOast. Guest SP-1 Report post Posted January 8, 2003 Sandman basically summed up my feelings on it. It's done. It's fixed. Let's go out there and write a hell of a show from here on out.
Guest caboose Report post Posted January 8, 2003 The first match was great. Caboose began making booking suggestions to our committee which involved himself and a second title run. It's funny cos I never suggested putting the title on me. I suggested that I chase the winner of AngleMania II Main Event for a few months with a stable designed to take said champion out. The whole point of the angle was to make the champion look good and for the other three members of the stable to end up getting a run in the main events. I never once suggested I win the title, and the title was never meant to leave the waist of the champion. The other funny thing was that my angle suggestion was not altered for anyone else other than for BPP to stick around in the Main Event. I bow to you BPP, tou truly are the OAOAST's very own Triple H. Tony had actually almost persuaded me to come back pretty soon, but now I think I will fuck off for good. Sorry if I'm taking this too seriously, but I don't like it when people bull shit so blatantly.
Guest Sandman9000 Report post Posted January 8, 2003 I don't know who else saw this, but this is an example of what happens when you let politics get in the way of your enjoyment, http://www.thesmartmarks.com/forums/index....732d7a681c96965 Let me just say this: If we EVER go through with something along the lines of what they went through, I walk. I do this because it's fun, and I enjoy it. If I stop enjoying it, then I'll stop. And the quickest way for me to stop enjoying something is to drown it in politics. You make me regularly laugh my ass off often enough, so I'm kinda sad about what happened here. I'm sure you are going to get through it fine and that in the end everyone will walk away from this fine. From the SWF, we wish the best to all involved. As for our situation, it was sad, but it had to be done. We had a serious falling out with our head booker, who was now the only booker in the fed due to a big return. He's always been stubborn and pretty controversial at times, but over the last few months we tried to put in place a co-booker to lessen the workload. He didn't want it, so we had to do what we did. We didn't oust him, we just wanted to put in another booker at his level, and he didn't want that. Now we have a booking committee (More like you guys) and we are recovering just fine. To say the least, we had to cut off the arm to save the body, and we've stopped the bleeding. I certainly don't think you guys will have the major communication problem we had, and good luck in your further endeavors. Guest Zack Malibu Report post Posted January 8, 2003 While it didn't strike as much of a chord with me as it did some of you, I can agree that the mention of Owen Hart took even the parody aspect of the OAOAST a little too far. If anyone is upset about me editing the show, I apologize if you think I went over your heads. Having just been given mod powers over the OAOAST, I didn't want it to look like I was abusing the power. But the general consensus amongst the roster was that the angle should be changed, and I tried my best to alleviate the situation, while still sticking to the original plan of Sandman taking out Caboose, thus writing him out of the picture for now, maybe for good. I hate seeing Caboose parting ways on a bad note, because I enjoyed the brief work I did with him. I agree wholeheartedly with Sandman in that we do this for fun, and if "politics" start getting involved, it's not going to be fun anymore. I personally am not going to begrudge anyone for this situation. It was a mistake, plain and simple, and all we can do is learn from it. Chalk it up to a learning experience, and let's continue to do what we do best here in the OAOAST.
Guest Big Poppa Popick Report post Posted January 8, 2003 I really think those comments Caboose were pretty low to the belt. I really don't appreciate being compared to a self-serving sob whom I utterly despise. So I'm going to respond, and this time not in the cutesy press release which was just meant to end this silly mess. I'm going to respond from the heart. After being welcomed (moreso hazed) into the thread and coming into a position of organizing one of our two shows, I realized real quickly that any booking I did could easily be considered "abuse of power" I know about what happened with swf...not the best eh? So if anyone has had a problem with me not booking things properly, tell me. If I'm not asking you over aim what you would like to be doing and listening to those suggestions, tell me. But if I am doing things properly, or you've felt like I've been genuinely seeking you all out for your own storylines, tell me. I'm with Sandman, I do this because its been damn fun, and I even have a friend in Nashville now because of all this. You can't price tag that shit. If this stops being fun, I'll walk to Caboose, we offered for you to come back, we accepted what happened. I'm sorry it worked out this way. There obviously was a better way. I personally feel I make a genuine effort to take everyone's ideas seriously and make them happen. I'm online as StephenJosephP all the time, and talk with many of you everyday as online friends. If I'm wrong, then say so I close this thread with this final thought. We are an e-fed. There is no room for ego here. We are all equal, and we all deserve the same chances. The only way we have fun is if we talk to each other, and communicate openly and effectively. This is true with any relationship. We are here to have fun. I'd like to personally thank Powerplay for his nice comments on our fed, and I am glad he finds us entertaining. I hope others do as well. Let's go back to having fun with Sandman's IZ. Sincerely, Stephen Joseph Popick
Guest Tony149 Report post Posted January 8, 2003 Sorry to open this thread again, BPP. But I just want to say this: I'm not upset we edited the show. I would of prefered to archive it and lock it inside the bookers folder. I made an effort to archive all of our shows when we moved back here from VM. Of course, we ran into a problem with space limits we didn't know about, causing us to lose portions of our shows during the VM days. As for the booking... I doubt we'll run into the same problem as SWF. They've been around a good while, and they do stuff most of us here can't. But I'm in charge of the OaOast as the Executive Producer. I hardly write or get very involved in booking matters as BPP, CWM, Zack & SM do all that, with help from AS & Alf. So nothing to fear about us getting into a power fight. And remember, YOU guys write the shows, be it matches or promos. NOT me, BPP, SM, Zack, AS, Alf and CWM. All we do is post them, but without the SPs, SSs, EFDDTs, and the rest of you, we don't have shit. Which is why the credits were introduce. The more you help, the more credits you'll get -- just look at SM, Alf & Zack.
