Guest chirs3 Report post Posted March 9, 2002 I've come up with a way to make the wrestling more enjoyable to watch! ... No, I mean besides making the matches longer and getting rid of stupid things like The Worm and Kevin Nash... If you'll take a look back a few years, to early-mid 90's (Bret Hart ownz0rZ! ), you'll notice that there weren't NEARLY as many pinfall attempts. Bret would suplex you, backdrop you, bulldog you, dropkick you, clothesline you, THEN drop for the first try. Today, RVD attempts a pin after EVERY Rolling Thunder and it never works. He'll pin right after a suplex, a backdrop, a jumpkick, all within the first 2 minutes of the match. I realized this when I saw a women's match... might have been Trish vs Jazz, but I don't think so... when they went back and forth for about four minutes before the first pinfall. Having faces like Edge, RVD, hell, even the Rock, making pin attempts in the first two minutes make it look like they wanna get the hell out of there. Not good. Guest Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye Report post Posted March 9, 2002 Interesting point. I dont necessarily agree because going for the pin can be put over almost the same way as a weardown move ie:you need to expend energy to kick out(its why Regal almost always goes for multiple pinfalls at a time). And Plus, there are other more noticable indicators of whether or not they want to be in the ring ie:SCSA vs. Mr. Perfect. I do agree that it can and sometimes does take away from the flow and excitement of a match. Pinfalls are a powerful thing young grasshopper...use them wisely. Guest Some Guy Report post Posted March 9, 2002 I think it's because of the shorter matches that they do that. Look at Savage/Steamboat and many other classics, there are a million near falls, but they all are towards the end of a long match. In Japan they do a lot of false finishes, it builds excitement, especially when the fans don't really know who is gonna win.
Guest converge241 Report post Posted March 9, 2002 Im not saying this is wrong or anything, just as far as i'm concerned I wouldnt like less pinfalls. the more pinfall attempts (within reason) there are in a I like it. I remeber when the WWF was fooling with the whole win-with-pinfall-after-finishing-manuever ending and Rock beat some one with a DDT. establishing that matches can end out of nowhere builds up those nearfalls even more. Good idea. should make for some interesting debates.
