cawthon777 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2003 I don't think I can add anything that hasn't been said before. I love this fucking show to death. I also had no fricken clue how devoted people are to this show. I was watching Conan O'Brien interview Alyson Hannigan yesterday and she was saying that people have the Buffy logo tatooed on them as well as the characters faces tatooed on them as well. Freakin incredible. Going on a small tangent, my favorite storyline from seasons 1-3 is the Willow/Xander relationship. I nearly broke down when Willow found out Xander and Cordillia were fooling around and she BLEW UP at Xander. Anyway, if this is, in fact, the last season of Buffy, I REALLLLLY hope Xander and Willow get together. If this is the last season, it's not a bad idea. If it's not, I wouldn't mind seeing Seth Green come back and de-lesbianify Alyson.
Guest raptor Report post Posted January 12, 2003 If it's not, I wouldn't mind seeing Seth Green come back and de-lesbianify Alyson. I like this idea. All the lesbian fans would be upset, but I don't think Willow was as great a character after Oz left.
Guest Mole Report post Posted January 12, 2003 Yeah, that would be cool if he came back. But I think they are heading toward the direction with Kendra and Willow. Kendra is hot, so I'm game.

I know about the commentaries on 1 and 2 It says on the back of the set there is...doesn't list which ones though. I'll look for a review later and see which ones have them. Got my set last night
cawthon777 0 Report post Posted January 12, 2003 I watched the commentary for 'Earshot' which is pretty good. Loved the segments on the Season 3 plotlines and Buffy Speak (on the 3rd disc? the one with 'The Wish' and 'Amends'). Joss & Co. have mentioned that 'Earshot' was held off for about 6 months due to Columbine but I haven't heard the same about 'Graduation Day Part 2' which was also held back a bit. Guest areacode212 Report post Posted January 15, 2003 I finished watching "Graduation Day, Part 2" today, and as intense as it was, I have to agree with all the season 2 fans. The second season is still my favorite, because of the highly personal nature of the various arcs. The Mayor was out to sacrifice the entire town to achieve his ascension--Buffy & the gang were just thorns in his side. But Angelus wanted to hurt Buffy personally, which made "Becoming, Part 2" so cathartic when they finally faced off. We had the Jenny/Giles conflict, which ended with her dying before it could be fully resolved; we had Spike going from a creepy, sadistic bastard, to someone everyone sympathized with and rooted for because of all the humiliation & jealousy he suffered. As cawthon777 already said, from an emotional standpoint, season 2 was just flawless...starting out slowly with Angel as the perfect boyfriend, then all the shit going down with his heel turn, ending with their final confrontation in the mansion. I don't think I teared up at all during S3, while I'll admit to having to wipe my eyes a few times in S2. It was such a great epic. Season 2 did have a few stinkers, mainly "monster of the week" episodes ("Some Assembly Required", "Go Fish", and "Killed By Death" come to mind), but even those had their strong parts, thanks to the Scoobies. "Reptile Boy" didn't annoy me all that much. Yeah, the actual monster sucked, but again, it was saved by various Scooby antics (Cordy and her fake laugh, Xander getting humiliated, Willow's "Angel....how do you shave?!?"). Those annoying college guys were good villains (better than the monster) for that episode because they were such smug bastards. Also, I preferred the Season 1 & 2 group dynamics, before characters like Anya, Wesley & Faith came along (though I liked the 2 girls), and when Oz/Willow was still new. There was something classic about Xander ignoring Willow because he was attracted to the unattainable Buffy. I liked Xander/Cordelia a lot, and I wish it had lasted a bit longer in S3. Cordy didn't have a whole lot to do after they broke up. It's inevitable that all these relationships changed in S3, but they hit the right spot in the first two seasons. All that said, I LOVED the third season, and there weren't as many episodes that stand out as "bad" to me. I don't think it was a great season until maybe the last 8-10 episodes or so...mainly the ones that were centered around high school (which was really the whole point of the show). It was so satisfying for Buffy to finally be accepted as "class protector" in "The Prom", and for the entire graduating class to band together against the Mayor. I was sad to see Larry die & Harmony get bitten though *SPOILER* (I'm aware that she returns) *END SPOILER*. Seeing Faith self-destructing was fascinating. Do you think that her turn to evil could have been prevented somehow? And Vampire Willow was DAMN sexy. I was really pissed that she got dusted at the end of "Doppelgangland". Hmm, I think I've found the subject for my next sig pic. One of the problems I have with S3 was that Cordy just didn't bring the funny that year. During the first two seasons, you could always count on her to provide some great laughs, but in season 3, she was just kind of bitchy without the comic relief. And what was up with that tan?? Overall, I just liked the Scooby gang better in S1 & 2 than in 3. I'm going to have to watch season 3 again sometime soon. I rushed through it WAY too quickly (I think it took me 3 weeks to watch season 2), and I need to give each episode more individual attention.

Guest Edwin MacPhisto Report post Posted January 15, 2003 3 has plenty of mega-emotional tear-up moments. For some reason, the end of Amends and Giles "It has to be" from The Wish always get me. They're not as personal as that huge finale that leaves you exhausted and broken, but still pretty strong.

Yeah, those final "mirror universe" scenes from "The Wish", when all the "friends" end up killing each other are pretty rough. Still, nothing really gets to me like that scene from "Passion" when Buffy & Willow get the call about Jenny. I was watching it at work for the first time and I was glad nobody was in the office at that moment.
Guest Edwin MacPhisto Report post Posted January 15, 2003 It's Oz getting Willow on that splinter of would that really starts me off. In terms of how their relationship was at such a precarious time at that moment, it was a horrible portent of how things could all go wrong. This show is just great with the metaphors, for the two people in the universe who hadn't picked that up yet.
Guest Cavi Report post Posted January 15, 2003 "Amends" is one episode I really quite love. I like how Angel is saved by some higher power, yet they don't beat you over the head with it by ever directly saying it or anything. I love the part in "The Prom" after Angel tells Buffy he doesn't want to spend the rest of his life with her, Buffy is talking with Willow and she says "...Right now, I'm just trying to keep from dying...I can't breathe, Will. I feel like I can't breathe" and then starts sobbing. The stuff with Angel and Buffy in "Graduation Day - Part II" gets to me. I thought the ending with them not saying a word to each other was great (that scene has one of my favorite Chris Beck musical pieces).

Yep, and it's what adds to the rewatchability of the series. I keep seeing new things all the time. that scene has one of my favorite Chris Beck musical pieces I'll need to watch that again. Is it a variation of "Close Your Eyes"? "Becoming", parts 1 & 2 have some of the best incidental music I've ever heard. I can't imagine that swordfight without that particular piece playing over it. Guest Cavi Report post Posted January 15, 2003 I'll need to watch that again. Is it a variation of "Close Your Eyes"? It's not "Close Your Eyes", but a piece he debuted in "The Prom" (in the scene when Angel breaks up with Buffy). In classic Beck fashion, he builds the theme up throughout the finale, until he reveals it all in the final scene with Angel. It's not as impactful as "Close Your Eyes" or "Sacrifice" (this is the one from "The Gift"), but it fits the scene so well. "Becoming", parts 1 & 2 have some of the best incidental music I've ever heard. I can't imagine that swordfight without that particular piece playing over it. Fantastic scoring indeed. Awesome that he won the Emmy for it.

I also tear up like a little bitch when Angel shows up at the prom. I don't know what it is about this show that gets to me. I mean...I knew he would show up at the prom...but it still gets to me. ... Let us never speak of this again.
Guest TUS_02 Report post Posted January 15, 2003 I just finished watching Bad Girls and Consequences, and I still can't believe how great the whole Willow/Xander story is. Willow's reaction to hearing that Xander slept with Faith is priceless... and it nearly choked me up. I REEEEEEAAAAAAALLLLLLYYYYYYYY hope that they re-kindle their sparks.
