LOTC, I'm assuming you're the guy who called in (Colin from Mississauga). I'm just wondering if you agreed with what they told you, as you kind of got cut off at the commercial, there.

Yeah, that was me. And no, I don't fuckin agree. They basically proved me right by saying "We're not gonna argue any of those points on Jumbo".

 

I mean, all three (Meltz, Marek, Molinero) are big Flair marks. It's no secret. It's also no secret that Marek cannot fathom anybody being better then Flair so I shouldn't be surprised that Jumbo got much lower then Flair. But I am.

 

Because Jumbo Tsuruta fucking smokes Ric Flair. There, I said it.

Marek did seem to think that he was too low on the list, though, but you also get a mixed vibe from that, too, as they basically agreed that Rock should be higher than Tsuruta was.

 

Of course, though, I'm just talking out my ass right now.

 

Also, Marek tends to piss me off, as he always comes off as sort of a 'Meltzer-Lite' in my eyes.

They should have done individual books. Like:

 

-Best Promo Man

-Best Draw

-Best Wrestler

- In terms of quality of Great Matches

- In terms of quantity of Great Matches

-Most Influencial

-Most Significant

 

But then again, Flair wouldn't come in first in any of those so...

treble- Pretty much any and every tidbit of info Marek reports he's getting secondhand from Meltz so he is very much Meltzer Jr. in that sense. He also would bear Dave's child if he could (and I don't doubt he's tried.)

I think the bigger crime is how low Santo is.

Santo shoulda been higher then Inoki and Andre, but probably not higher the Hogan, Flair, Rikidozan or Thesz. THE crime of the book is Jumbo at 22, bar none. I wouldn't have been happy with Jumbo being placed at 11 or 12 and the guy didn't even crack the top ten.

I just got this book the other day. I haven't seen much japanese wrestling, so I can't comment too much on Tsuruta and the like. One omision that draws my eye is Bob Backlund. Not that he's a top 20 guy or anything, but no mention anywhere? I think the Road Warriors should've made the list too. Overall, the list is what it is, but the book is well worth it for the bios of the wrestlers.

That's not even funny. Saturn couldn't lick the sweat off of Jumbo's nuts and I'm a Saturn fan. I find myself slowly disliking Ric Flair due to this book. One day I'm just going to go nuts and call him the most overrated of all time. Shit.......I think I just did.

There's one thing that really annoys me. How oculd they justify having the Rock ahead of Terry Funk.

 

Funk has wrestled great matches, awesoem brawls, he's drawn in the US and in Japan, his interviews are some of the best ever. He's influenced more people than 90% of the people on the list and they have the Rock ahead of him?

 

If you ask me Terry Funk is top 15. And I really think Bret Hart should be ahead of the Rock but Funk being pretty low(for his standards) is pretty damn bad.

I'm the biggest Flair mark ever, and I don't think he's better than Jumbo. Jumbo was the MAN for years. This list is BS, so I'm not even gonna bother with the book. I mean BENIOT was left off, but VENTURA got in.

Only complaint that I have that no one else has mentioned so far is that I really think Mick Foley should've been a little higher... mid-40's, maybe? I just think that he really deserves a spot in the Top 50 (not to mention Dynamite Kid, but that issue has been mentioned already.)

 

EDIT: Oh, and who the hell is the Blue Demon?

Blue Demon, along with Pero Aguayo and El Santo are some of the biggest wreslters in Mexico's history. Huge, huge draw.

...and color ME disappointed that it took that many replies for somebody to mention him. For years he was right up there with Flair as far as "drawing power" and "entertainment value" in WCW. I say Sting was screwed, especially with Vader ranked sixty spots above him.

Nah. Vader set THE standard for big men in the wrestling business. He saw the bar the Bruiser Brody and Stan Hansen had set years before and set it just that much higher. While Sting has drawing power or entertainment value behind him, he's lacking:

 

- Longevity

- Influence

- Body of work

 

All of the above listed are huge factors.

They make it sound as though Benoit is some guy who could be good in a couple of years. He's proved himself a great wrestler. Am I the only one who thinks Benoit should be top 25?

Benoit has never drawn any serious money or been a world champ. Once he gets the WWE title and proves he can draw he should make the top 25

 

Sting has a better body of work than Taker. And he lasted through WCW despite being the worst angles in wrestling history(Shockmaster,Black Scorpion,Cheetum the Evil Midget).

 

He doesn't have the influence of a Vader or Flair but the above should be enough to rank him higher than 94.
