Royal Rumble 2003

My booking of Royal Rumble based on events up to this point:

(i didnt flesh out all the matches because of taking so much time with the Rumble..normally I would)

Heat is your standard hype of video packages and interviews

There is a segment where some of the Raw rumble entrants are angry at Chris Jericho for volunteering for the number one slot, which gives the Smackdown wrestlers and edge (begin even numbered entrants, they will get number 30).

The Heat match is The Dudleys (still injured form the handicap match attack) vs. Regal and Storm

Regal and Storm easily win the match by cheating and taking advantage of the suffering Dudleys.

First match on the PPV is Brock Lesnar vs. Big Show

Cole and Tazz explain that they have the first match so the winner can get optimum rest for the Rumble itself. The match is kept relatively short; to Show’s advantage. Brock overcomes Show and Heyman’s interference to get the decissive win. A-Train and Team Angle proceed to attack, but Benoit makes the save.

John Cena comes out for an anti-hometown Boston rap

Los Guerreros vs. Jon Cena and B2

Guerreros retain in a 15 minute long match

Angle interview, where he states he will keep the title off Benoit and Brock is a marked man in the Rumble

Angle vs. Benoit

A long match with a patented “almost” Benoit title win to tease the crowd. There is interference throughout the match but Angle wins cleanly at the end with the anklelock. This establishes (or reaffirms) that while Angle has the normal heel attributes he is still a strong champion who can win cleanly.

A video recap of the Steiner- HHH buildup

HHH vs. Steiner

Steiner wins the title in a relatively short match to protect both competitors. Steiner gets the belt to maximize his potential before he gets injured again, on Raw a rematch is set up for No Way Out

The Dawn- Torrie feud is recapped

Dawn vs. Torrie

The traditional bring the fans back down match before the main attraction.

Towards the end Al Wilson comes out and sides with Torrie to give her the win and says he wants a divorce

Past Rumble vide, with re-cap of the rules

The announcers are ready to cut to a Steve Austin interview when RNN breaking News hits.

Crowd is understandably upset.

Randy Orton talks about the shoulder being at 99 and 2/10ths to full recovery when Austin lays him out with a stunner. Instead of the latter What/Humor promos, we get a 96-97-era style promo about the Rumble and the return to WWE.

Rumble Match

Jericho is first, after volunteering of course. Second is Billy Kidman. Jericho laughs at Kidman believing he has an easy time but for that first two-minute period he keeps hanging on, to Jericho’s frustration. Third is Maven. Maven and Kidman team up on Jericho but King notes how these two used to date Torrie as they bump into each other. They start to fight and Jericho manages to stave off e elimination and eliminate both as they fight. 4th is Shelton Benjamin. Jericho pleads with him to no avail as to an alliance. Shelton tortures Jericho until number 5, Christian, arrives. They work together but cannot eliminate Benjamin. Number 6 is Undertaker, with a long entrance. Chris Nowinski is number 7 and gets tossed immediately by Taker. Jericho then throws Christian to Taker to save himself and Christian is gone. Bill DeMott is next and manages to get some shots in, but is also eliminated by Taker. Rob Van Dam is number 9. Various face offs between the three with n one eliminated when A Train enters. RVD and Y2J face off as does Atrain and Taker. Goldust enters. Rey Misterio enters at 12 Just as A Train knocks undertaker out after barreling into him. Rey sees his window and eliminates Train as he barely hangs on to eliminate Train. Train and Taker fight up the aisleway. Next entrant is Jeff Hardy. Jeff and Rey square off much to the crowd’s delight. Jericho eliminates Goldust. Crash Holly is number 14 and is tossed by Benjamin. Batista is number 15 and tosses Rey and Jeff Hardy like darts out, but Rey manages to hang on. Rikishi is next and goes toe to toe with Batista in an irresistible force – immovable object battle.

Recap on who’s currently in: Jericho, RVD, Misterio, Batista, Rikishi, and Benjamin*

Ric Flair is 17 and immediately starts helping and/or barking orders at Batista about who to eliminate. First is Rikishi, then RVD. Damaja is next but is tossed by Batista. Raven is next and manages to avoid being eliminated despite an onslaught from Batista. Brock Lesnar is number 20. Benjamin immediately attacks Brock, but to no avail. Shelton is eliminated. Batista tosses raven. Lesnar tosses flair. Lesnar and Batista come face to face as Jericho tries to take a breather, but Shawn Michaels is next. Michaels beats down a weak Jericho as Batista starts to dominate Lesnar. Lesnar makes a comeback and almost eliminates Batista but Charlie Haas is next and he goes to work on Brock. Jericho is barely holding on against Shawn. Booker T is 23 and he goes after Jericho as well. As both the two on one beating continue (Booker and HBK on Jericho as well as Batista/Haas on Lesnar) The glass shatters. Austin is number 24. He proceeds to stun everyone. He tosses Haas and Shawn Michael’s (with Jericho's help as Jercho kicks Shawn in the back while Shawn is doing his patented “I didn’t touch the floor” Rumble spot), which is repaid with a second stunner, before Test enters. Test goes after Batista when Austin and Lesnar have a face to face. As Asutin and Lesnar fight, number 26 Matt Hardy enters, but gives his number to Shannon Moore, in exchange for his. Matt stands at ringside shouting for Moore to attack everyone. He is outmatched and eliminated. Matt berates him all the way to the back. The flames hit as Moore and Hardy walk to the back and Kane is next. The Mfers are blocking Kane's way, so Matt shoves Moore into him and he is chokeslammed off the stage and Kane officially enters. Edge is number 28. Hurricane is 29. Matt is number 30 with Shannon’s number.

Recap of who is in the ring: Jericho, Kane, Booker, Test, Hurricane, Edge, Brock, Matt, Austin, Batista*

Batista eliminates Hurricane. Edge eliminates Matt. Jericho manages to eliminate Test. Kane eliminates Batista. Austin/Booker face off, as well as Brock/Kane. Jericho somehow manages to rest again; lying face down in a corner after the time spent and the beatings endure. Booker and Jericho eliminate Kane. Jericho then eliminates Booker with what looks like his last ounce of energy. Brock and Austin look over at Jericho. They take turns pummeling Jericho. The “temporary alliance” between Brock and Austin breaks down and Brock almost eliminates Austin. He manages to stay on the apron, but Jericho knocks him off. Lesnar then F5’s Jericho to the floor to win the Rumble

Good Rumble, and I love the idea of Orton being the first to interrupt Austin :)

I'd love to see Jericho look that strong in the Rumble. But I also don't see Austin losing his return match either.

i just didnt see Austin in a title match @ WM, just because he doesnt really "need " one.. and assuming hes on Smackdown (away from HHH) i dont think they could not do Angle- Brock

Him getting eliminated By Jericho in a fluke keeps Austin strong and doesnt turn anyone on Brock.

my main thing with Jericho was to give him some more credibility, but you still have him show some ass by not winning. So in his promos he can say how he was the Ironman..but Whomever can say "yeah but you didnt win it".

The other main points were to have Abgle associates ganging up on Brock

setting up ATrain and Taker (which i could care less about, but going on the premise that Vince would want it that way )

its all moot now anyway with the stupid one minute intervals

how the hell do you tell a story with that short of a Rumble?
