Angle's Knee

Recommended Posts

Guest Anglesault

was just thinking about how good Angle/Benoit should be at the Rumble, when I realized something. This should be Angle's first televised match since his surgery. Now, I'm asking you, because I really have absolutely no knowledge on knee injuries and surgery, is this the type of surgery that should affect Angle's performance in the ring? Will he be less mobile on it? I know in theory he should feel better than ever, but like I said, I have no clue how these surgeries work. If he is sub par, is it all in his head?

If I'm not mistaken, he got his knee scoped. That means they went in with a little camera and cleaned up whatever was bothering the knee, usually built up scar tissue. Depending on how much crap they cleaned up will depend on how much mobility Angle will have in his knee. If his knee isn't up to par, they'll work a shorter than usual match to protect Angle. If it turns out to be a 25 minute mat classic, then Angle is ok or he is HHHing it.(playing through pain I mean, I don't want to get flamed here)

Even if Angle is a little off his game for a while, he'll be in there with Benoit who could always carry him if need be. It shouldn't be too noticeable and I'm sure he'll be fine by Mania.

I was actually thinking of the same thing watching Smackdown.

He could just pop a few pills and take the pain away. Hey, that is what I would do.

Angle is a GoD when it comes to wrestling, so I think he will do fine.

The real question is: What will Benoit do?

Benoit knows Angles condition and if he takes Angle out of action there are going to be some stern looks from the office. Will this effect the 'intensity' that benoit brings or not? Will he be too worried about 'protecting the champ' and start to mess up? I know, it's Chris Benoit, but this is a make-or-break time for him. He could do big things is this match goes well, but if something goes wrong, the blame is on him. That's pressure.

He just got his knee scoped so he should be fine by the Rumble. Also, its not that he's working off 9 months of ring rust either.

Scoping your knees is quite similar and many athletes never lose a beat.

I would like to think that Beniot/Angle will go Full-stream but I think they want to prevent any type of injury to Angle at this moment since WWE hasn't had this type of Main event since Rock/Austin in 2001. (Rock/Hogan was a different thing). I'd expect Angle to go easy here and take it simple and have Smackdownesque match (still ***3/4) at about 18 minutes). I also expect WWE to keep Angle imoblie at NWO in a likely Tag match of some sort (Im thinking Team Angle and TBS against Brock, Edge, Beniot and Rikishi)....WWE really wants WWE title to be a huge match.

I think he'll be fine. And even if he isn't 100%, I'm sure we'll still get a *** 1/2 match out of it, and that's nothing to complain about

Anyone else getting the feeling that Benoit may be going over here for a one month title reign? Angle needs to be kept busy until Mania and with one pay per view after Rumble, it seems that having him beat Benoit twice would be kind of pointless.

Of course, they could always go with the above stated tag match too...

"Bang the bookermans wife"...thats f'n funny dude, and anybody who reminds me of Nancy gets my thanks, best legs EVER in wrestling!

Anyway, as far as the injury goes, Angle should be good to go, at least for a match with a worker of Chris Benoit's credentials.

I'm sure the match will come out fine, better than most anything else on the card, but I have another worry...

...what if Kurt is coming back too soon, and something "goes wrong" in the match, if you know what I mean.

Yeah, because then that defeats the purpose of Brock winning the rumble, since he can now just simply ask Beniot for a rematch.

I SERIOUSLY DOUBT Beniot will go over here(maybe by DQ)...That only cheapens the title and hurts Angle's cred.

The tag match is best for NWO since you can freeze the storylines...

Best Tag match would be

Angle, Haas, Benjamin and Show vs

Lesnar, Eddy, Chavo and Beniot

If Benoit actually works the knee in question then Kurt will have a legit reason to hobble around on it, they'd need Benoit to injure it in a figure 4 beforehand though to get across that Benoit can cause Angle to submit through that move

I'm not too worried about it. If they have to slow it down a bit, big deal. That might actually force the mach into a better pace than alot of these wacked-out spotfest things they've been having. I don't see the knee injury affecting the level of the match whatsoever. Angle's knee shouldn't prevent Benoit from carrying him like usual, I don't think.

Yes. Then that leads into Angle/Lesnar, Team Angle vs. Los Guererros, and Ugh. Okay, find someone else for Benoit at Mania.

Austin comes out next night on RAW, Benoit questions him for leaving and how much he cares about the business, insta-feud. Show can work a short program against Angle somewhere in between after Heyman blames him for losing to Lesnar, letting him get the title shot, etc. and they can write Show off after Angle beats him.

Benoit needs to break out the sharpshooter.

I wanted Austin/Angle. :(

Can Austin and Angle feud May/June/July until Angle beats Lesnar again at Summerslam? (That is, of course, dependant on you doing Austin/Benoit two months or throwing Austin/Eddy in there for April)

No, because Austin's going to be a face when he comes back, becasue there's some draw that he still has, and Angle needs a heel to run with since he will probably turn/get turned on by Heyman. Setting up something like Angle/Rhyno and Benoit/Lesnar.

Benoit/Lesnar sounds really, really cool. I think I'd like to see that match. That would be the first fued I was really, really into since Rock/Jericho, I think as long as they booked it decently enough.

AS, I can see where you want to see Austin vs Angle again. I just saw SS 2001 the other night and watched the classic match they had and was reminded of how good their in ring work was. That being said, I don't want to see them work for awhile. Angle is still getting killed with "what" chants and if he gets programmed with Austin, then Angle's promo's will continue to be ruined. I was hoping by now the "what" deal with Angle would have gone away, but it hasn't. I also think the "what" chants along with "you suck" are the reason that Angle is playing heel in the program with Lesnar instead of the other way around. I'd make Austin go to Raw to help them out and for penance for leaving. I'd put him on top immediately and then bring him to SD. I wouldn't reward Austin for walking out on the company by sticking him where he wants to go. I'd send him to where I need to go. It's a fair trade off. You get to work again and work on top, but you're going to work where I tell you to.

I'm hoping by after Mania, Angle's ready for a turn and the fans, after the short tease and wanting to cheer him, are begging to see him beat off Heyman after stealing mic time and doing whatever else. Then, they come back in five months at SummerSlam and face Brock, who hasn't lost the title and never really lost it in the first place, against face Angle, the underdog who needs to get his iwn back from Lesnar.

I doubt Austin and HHH will last on the same show.

I wasn't planning on Beniot/TBS for WM...

I was thinking Beniot Vs Edge or Beniot/Mattitude.

I expect Austin to go to raw...Face Triple H at WMXIX (Yes, U heard me right).

I think the Austin/HHH heat isn't as bad as some people are making it out to be. Plus I think Austin should be made to work whatever they tell him to, even if it includes HHH. Just bringing Austin back sets somewhat of a precedence because he is being brought back from walking out on the company twice. Now it looks like Austin can just walk out any time things aren't going his way because he knows things are bad and he knows he can get away with it. He's gotten away with it twice already.

It's bad. HHH is still taking pot shots a Austin. Austin feels Triple H was behind his public burial, pulling strings back stage and trying to play him off other people. Plus, working with Benoit is generally a mid-card storyline with an Austin boost and all you have to do is make him put Benoit over. Having HHH go over him will just feel like the same old thing, and he'll probably be gone again.

Angle at 80% is still better than most at 100%, and with his opponent being Benoit, count on a good match.

No Way Out is the PPV to talk about IMO. There are so many ways that thing can go, Benoit vs. Brock, Benoit/Edge/Brock/Eddie/Chavo vs. Angle/Team Angle/Show/Matt, Benoit/Edge/Brock vs. Team Angle, Benoit/Edge/Brock/Taker/Rey vs. Angle/Team Angle/Show/Atrain (or Matt):the way this whole feud has been set up is ingenius because it includes SO many guys which leads to a ton of possibilities.
