Guest Phr33k Report post Posted January 12, 2003 Washington Capitals 12, Florida Panthers 2. Not enough scoring is right.
Guest The Czech Republic Report post Posted January 12, 2003 Woohoo! Somebody broke ten goals! And against one of my most hated, teams, Los Panteras! Go Jagr, Bondra, and the crew!

Guest LaParkaMarka Report post Posted January 12, 2003 That's just silly. No need to push the score that high, beyond trying to humiliate the Panthers. Though any humiliation of Mike Keenan is fine by me.
Guest The Czech Republic Report post Posted January 12, 2003 No no, embarass Los Panteras, please. I hate them with a passion. Not just because they're in Miami...I have my reasons.
Guest LaParkaMarka Report post Posted January 12, 2003 Ok, I'll bite...why do you hate em? Not enough Czech's on the team? Too many Slovaks? The world needs to know.
Guest nl5xsk1 Report post Posted January 12, 2003 That's just silly. No need to push the score that high, beyond trying to humiliate the Panthers. Should they have stopped shooting? I think it would be more humiliating for a team to completely stop shooting, or stop trying their hardest, than to get shelled so bad. Don't blame the Caps for being able to score 12; blame the Panthers.
Guest MaxPower27 Report post Posted January 12, 2003 The Panthers just played like absolute shit. The Panther announcers, (I watched the game on TV) Jeff Rimer and Denis Potvin were trying to pass it off as the Panthers were tired from traveling the night before. They "didn't get into the hotel in Washington until 330AM." Uh, yeah, but the game didn't start until about 7PM! Did they stay up all night having a slumber party or something? Jesus Christ! I think their passing percentage was around 15%, it seemed everytime they passed the puck, a Capital was right there, and had a scoring chance. It was one of the worst hockey games that I've ever seen in my life.
Patty O'Green 0 Report post Posted January 12, 2003 The Panther's owner was pretty upset with the Caps. He claimed they lacked class. Here's the article from ESPN.com : WASHINGTON -- Florida Panthers owner Alan Cohen criticized the Washington Capitals and coach Bruce Cassidy for their record-setting 12-2 rout of his team Saturday night. "You can be sure that if we were ever able to get a 6-0 lead, the Panthers will act with more class than has been shown by the Capitals and their coach," Cohen wrote in an e-mail to The Sun-Sentinel of Fort Lauderdale. Capitals winger Jaromir Jagr had three goals and four assists, matching a career-high with seven points. Washington led 4-0 after one period and 9-0 after two en route to its biggest offensive night since a 12-2 victory over Quebec on Feb. 6, 1990. "Most of these Florida players will be around a long time," Cohen wrote. "It doesn't matter who wears a Washington uniform. We'll never forget." Cassidy, however, rested Jagr for most of the third period -- even though Jagr was one point away from setting a career high for points. Six Capitals forwards logged more ice time than Jagr, who played 14:05. "That's honorable," Cassidy said. "Good for (Jagr) for not putting personal goals ahead of the team." "I know how it feels to be on the other side," Jagr said. "It's not easy to be down 10-0." Panthers coach Mike Keenan didn't criticize Cassidy following the game -- though he hadn't read his owner's e-mail, either. "I'm never going to question what another coach does in terms of personnel. ... He wants to ride it hard, he wants to get them points," Keenan said.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted January 12, 2003 Hmm..What were the Capitals to do, start taking shots at their own goal? Its not the Capitals fault the Florida goalies couldn't stop any of their shots..
Guest treble charged Report post Posted January 12, 2003 No. This whole thing is complete bullshit. You CAN'T let up, because where do you draw the line? How big of a lead is too big? I mean, say you draw the line at 5 goals in the 3rd period, so you just go into sleepwalk mode, and the other team comes back while you're trying to let them have it easy to tie it or take the lead. Maybe if the Panthers hadn't have played so shitty, they never would have been in that predicament in the first place.
Guest LaParkaMarka Report post Posted January 12, 2003 Oh come on, when it's 8-0 you can let up a little. It seems like that's what the Caps kind of did (I think Jagr was barely on the ice) but they still put four more goals up. Nothing wrong with "Sleepwalk" mode when you're up by eight, unless the sport is basketball or football.
Guest treble charged Report post Posted January 13, 2003 I can see that argument for something like minor hockey, where you really don't want to 'hurt the feelings' of the little kids, but this is the NHL. The guys out there are making millions of dollars, and if they play like shit, they deserve to be blown out of the water.
Guest nl5xsk1 Report post Posted January 13, 2003 Stolen from nhl.com: "Instead of going for a team-record eighth point, Jagr sat out most of the third period. No NHL player has had eight points in a game since former teammate Mario Lemieux on December 31, 1988. "You have to respect the other team," said Jagr, who recorded his 10th career hat trick and first in two seasons with the Caps. "I don't want to go out there and score eight points. It doesn't matter, we won." " and ... "Before the Panthers finally got on the board in the third period, they took out their frustrations in the second as Olli Jokinen, Brad Ference, Peter Worrell and Stephen Weiss all got into fights." Yeah, those Panthers sure are high-class all right. Alan Cohen can go Fuck himself, and stop blaming other teams for his team playing like crap.
Guest gthureson Report post Posted January 13, 2003 Hell, I would have tried for 15 if I was Bruce Cassidy. I would have kept rolling my lines and tried to bury them as far as I could. The Panthers have long memories? Good. The first thing they'll remember next time they play is, "Good god, this team hammered us last time." This ain't a beer league or pee wee hockey. Keep shooting until the final buzzer, I say.
