Also, I know there was a sequel: what was it called, is it any good, and do they have a TPB of it? I believe in Harvey Dent. Chilling shit, that.
Guest Mattdotcom Posted January 12, 2003 Report Posted January 12, 2003 No, I OWN TLH. I love it. Good stuff. You'll note I recommended it to a Bat-fan starting over in reading comics. A good place to start, along with Year One and DKR. The artwork blows me away. I could do without some of the obvious Godfather-inspired stuff, but if you're getting a mob out of Gotham, go all out. Too bad the ending is a downer(in more ways than one). And the sequel is called Dark Victory. I'm going to find a copy of it one day.

Does anyone else find that woman the Owl uses as bait in Daredevil: Yellow eeirily reminiscint of Gilda?

Same for Dark Victory, I re-read TLH and later DV and again I was checking for clues and stuff. Oh and , NO, its not a 3 part series, Sale & Loeb had another Batman stories but arent part of TLH/DV.

I'll try to check it out and post the name later (if Sassquatch doesn't beat me to it). It's only a two part epic so far. The first book released by Loeb/Sale was Batman: The Long Halloween. The sequel to that was Batman: Dark Victory which was okay but nowhere near as good as the first part (like most things in any medium).

Comic book writers love sneaking in hidden messages or blurbs in their comics so it's entirely possible that Loeb and Sale made the woman to resemble Gilda.
Guest pochorenella Posted January 14, 2003 Report Posted January 14, 2003 It's only a two part epic so far I believe I got confused with the Batman: Haunted Knight TPB which collected several Halloween-themed stories from the Legends of the Dark Knight comics that were also done by Loeb and Sale, and that actually pre-dated Long Halloween and Dark Victory. Guest Annoyed Grunt Posted January 15, 2003 Report Posted January 15, 2003 I read TLH today and it was great, despite knowing the ending. There were some minor plot holes, but I'm guessing that some of them are addressed in the sequel. The one thing I didn't like was how Loeb kind of disregarded continutiy. I didn't think that all those villians were around during Year 1, especially the fact that they were all well established before Two Face was introduced. I just have one question, was The Calendar Man created for this series or is he an older character I've never seen before?

Calendar Man's usual modus operandi is to commit crimes based on events one would mark on a calendar. For instance, his first crime spree revolved around the seasons of the year, while his second focused on days of the week and his third was devoted to holidays. He has also been a member of both the Misfits and the Time Foes, and tends to wear a different costume (with differing weapons and gimmicks) for each crime. I KNOW the Time Foes fought the JLA in their shittier days. And I'm pretty sure the Misfits fought other people besides Batman.

Do you know what issues this Time Foes/Justice League fight took place? The only time that I can recall the Calendar Man ever having an encounter (if you could even call it that) with the Justice League was when he and the other Secret Society of Super Villains members all surrendered to the Justice League without even giving them a fight.

It is the tale of Alberto's release from Arkham and his "haunting". It is the tale of the Rogue's assention and the Joker taking Two-Face's place as the head of them. It is the tale of a young boy coming to grips with his past, and beginning his future. It is the tale of a cop killer who clears the final strands from Batman: Year One. It is the final reconciliation between Selina Kyle and her connection to the Falcones. And it is a magnificant read.
