Guest RenegadeX28 Report post Posted January 12, 2003 I went to a friend's house to play some PS2, and he had the new Playstation demo disc. It had The Getaway (great game) and also DefJam. The game is made by AKI. And it smells, feels, PLAYS like No Mercy. The animation in some of the moves are the same (Whip to the ropes, the head thingy when you bump into each other, etc). This game is coming out for GCN. NO DOUBT I will be getting this game.

Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted January 12, 2003 So the AKI grappling system is finally making it to a Sony system... **rejoices** Since I'm out of the loop on games, and have been since pretty much 1995, will Def Jam Vendetta have a CAW? Because, if they do, the guys in Slayer WILL be made (since they're signed to Def Jam/American Records, and Kerry does guitar work for Def Jam artists here and there, most notably The Beastie Boys, as Kerry did all the guitar work for "No Sleep Till Brooklyn" off of Licensed To Ill). So yeah...CAW for DJV?
Guest jimmy no nose Report post Posted January 12, 2003 At this point there isn't supposed to be a CAW.
Guest Downhome Report post Posted January 12, 2003 I just got the demo, and I f'n love this game. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. This is now my favorite Pro. Wrestling game in the States, so yes, it's outstanding so far. You can only play four minute matches though in the demo, so you can't really play a very long match, nor can you really work on a body part really so I can't really say if you can even work on a body part, as you could in former AKI games, I really hope so though. I'll have this game, no f'n doubt about that. So if you have any questions, ask away!
Guest Downhome Report post Posted January 12, 2003 It had The Getaway (great game) I would just like to second that also, I'll TOTALLY be owning this one as well, this is a HELL of a demo, as it also has Ratchet & Clank on it (I already have it, but it's a great game also!). Guest MaskedDanger Report post Posted January 17, 2003 Quick question to anyone who's played the demo: In the clips I've seen, the moves looked very exaggerated and almost cartoony. Are all the moves over the top like that? The only reason I ask is one of the coolest things about the AKI games was that all the moves were legit, no matter how nuts they looked (I swear I thought the Dragonrana was made up for the longest time). Guest GeneMean Report post Posted January 17, 2003 It seemed like it was mostly just the finishers that seemed really over the top with the opponent being tossed like a complete rag doll. It does seem a little silly at first, but when I look at it and realize I'm finally playing the AKI engine on my PS2 I quickly forget about it. Then I also remember it's an EA-Big title and they really like to use those kind of crazy moves in their games ala SSX:Tricky.

Guest The Notorious CRD Report post Posted January 18, 2003 I've been looking forward to this game since I heard Aki was behind it. I still play No Mercy to this day despite owning all the next-gen systems. It's a shame that they don't have an actual license (NWA TNA would have been nice, but oh well) but I'll take what I can get.

Well, they didn't look crazy. Maybe the kicks and punches look quirky, but that is it. All No Mercy fans should try this game. MUST HAVE.
Guest MaskedDanger Report post Posted January 18, 2003 Call me nuts, but I'm still basing my decision whether or not to buy this on if it has a CAW system or not. It doesn't even have to be a very GOOD CAW system, just a CAW system (although I'd hope it'd be up to the standards of No Mercy or Virtual Pro Wrestling 2). I mean, the return of the engine is nice (and bodes well for possible sequels) but if I can't use my main man "Blackbird" to bust heads, it just won't be the same. I'd still rent it, definitely, but I wouldn't buy. And unfortunately, latest word (that I've heard) is still that DJV will be CAWless, devoid o' CAW, severely CAW lacking, aCAWed, the recipient of an unneccesary CAW-ectomy, so unless they do a last minute 180, Blockbuster here I come. Oh, and thanks to the two people who answered my previous question about the exaggeration of the moves. I forgot to say so before.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted January 18, 2003 Yes, a CAW is a necessary feature in all wrestling games these days.
Guest Dr. Wrestlingphysics Report post Posted January 19, 2003 I'd have thought a CAW feature was a necessity these days, especially in a wrestling game without any wrestlers! If this game came with, say 50-100 CAW slots, you could make many wrestlers, just play with them and pretend it's No Mercy 2 instead of some Rap and Wrestling hybrid!
