Guest art_vandelay Report post Posted March 10, 2002 According to Dave Metlzer, not only is WOL coming back to the internet, but it's going to be broadcast through radio in selected cities. Look for in depth info in the Wrestling Observer website on Monday. So far, the following cities will have the radio show: - Detroit - Cleveland - Portland - Atlanta - Waterbury, NY The actual show debuts on March 17th in a three hour format. He'll post all the info on Monday. I don't know if it will be a daily or weekly show.
Guest CB2M Report post Posted March 10, 2002 It's going to air weekly on Sunday nights, from 11 p.m.-1 a.m. ET. The 3 hour show on 3/17 is a Wrestlemania special, which is the reason for the extra hour.
Guest art_vandelay Report post Posted March 10, 2002 Ahh, thanks. It's going head to head against The Law. I wonder if they'll let Dave plug the show on Saturdays.
Guest Army Eye Report post Posted March 10, 2002 Well too bad it's not Monday-Friday instead of weekly. Still great news though.
Guest The Mighty Damaramu Report post Posted March 10, 2002 YAY! Not to sound like a WOL mark......no wait I am a WOL mark! I can't believe it. I missed it so much. It's been nearly 9 months since WOL was on! Yay! I just hope they don't start out talking about how glad they are to be back. They must start out like nothing ever happened: "How's it going everyone? This is Dave Meltzer editor of the Wrestling Observer News Letter along with Bryan Alvarez of Figure Four weekly. Bryan how's it going?" "It's going good." Guest Army Eye Report post Posted March 10, 2002 hahaha Damaramu.. AGREED. How cool would that be.
Guest Ry Ry Report post Posted March 10, 2002 Since it's a 3 hour show and a celebration is needed, they need to book Tom Zenk, Missy Hyatt, Jim Cornette, and all the other regulars.... and oh yeah, to talk about WrestleMania.
Guest imajackoff? Report post Posted March 10, 2002 Perhaps we'll have a special appearance by Daves dog. Or maybe Daves answering machine. I too am a WOL mark.
Guest Shawn Report post Posted March 10, 2002 Maybe I'm the only one but anyone else dislike Meltzer? I lost respect for him about five years ago but I don't want to get into that... On a side note, anyone listen to "Piledriver: The Rock in Wrestling Radio Show"?
Guest areacode212 Report post Posted March 10, 2002 Man, it sucks that WOL will only be a weekly show. It was a part of my daily routine! And if I missed it one day, I knew I could always listen to it in the eYada archives. Oh, well. Maybe if it does well, it will expand to 5 days a week eventually. Guest The Mighty Damaramu Report post Posted March 10, 2002 I hope that they archive it. I mean I'm a senior in High School. I can't stay up till 1 every Sunday without being groggy Monday morning.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted March 10, 2002 I've never heard it before...and since I don't live in any of those cities... Where can you hear it on the net?
Guest Repo Man jr Report post Posted March 10, 2002 The Mighty Damaramu's bit continued..... Dave: "How's it going everyone? This is Dave Meltzer editor of the Wrestling Observer News Letter along with Bryan Alvarez of Figure Four weekly. Bryan how's it going?" Bryan: "It's going good." Dave: "Thats good.........*mumbles*Da da dar de de tum tum tum.... well we got a bunch of stuff to get through today. Bryan, what did you think of Smackdown?" Bryan: "Ummmm, I thought it was OK, until that bit with Steph, which was horrible" Dave: "Yeah, well, you know, what do you expect." Bryan: "Yeah, I guess" Dave: "Well.......errr, huh! So Bryan, how did the issue end up?" *No response* Dave: "Bryan? .....Bryan? .......Oh, I think we lost Bryan. OK, well, we got a bunch of stuff here........ So yesterday Vince was....." Bryan: "Can you hear me?" Dave: "Oh, we got Bryan back! Bryan, hows it going?" Bryan: "It's going good" Dave: "Thats good...... Just having some technical problems here....." Bryan: "......No, actually I just popped out to do my new spot on the LAW, which is on right now!" Dave: "Oh really, how's the LAW going?" Bryan: "It's going good" Dave: "Thats good........" Guest The Mighty Damaramu Report post Posted March 10, 2002 Hey you make them sound downright boring. That was the most exciting 2 hours of something wrestling related I've heard in a long time! Certainly more exciting than the WWF. *groan* They're going to talk about MMA again.....dammit.
Guest areacode212 Report post Posted March 10, 2002 Heh, that was great, Repo. My biggest claim to fame in the wrestling world was writing a WOL drinking game which Bryan read on the air. Now I can resurrect it! I just hope we get to hear all those cool songs that Al played before & after the ad breaks ("Bark at the Moon", "Connected", etc..). And what would WOL be without the Anti-Drug PSAs?
Guest Army Eye Report post Posted March 11, 2002 I've never heard it before...and since I don't live in any of those cities... Where can you hear it on the net? We don't know yet. I guess that info will be posted on Monday. It used to be broadcast on eyada.com (now dead)
Guest The Mighty Damaramu Report post Posted March 11, 2002 With my luck I won't have the necessary programs to listen to it. Hopefully it'll be Windows Media Player. Hey will they be able to have WWF stars on it now?
Guest Some Guy Report post Posted March 11, 2002 Bps the show's archives aren't around any more, but the show was pretty damn good. Dave and Bryan know a lot about wrestling and Dave usually told at least 1 funny story a show about something that happened to a wrestler. The guests with the exception of Neidhart and the Mountie were good, with Zenk, Brunzell, Missy, and Heenan being the best. He had Flair, Benoit, Eddy, Saturn, Superstar Billy Grahm, Bockwinkle, Rey, Konnan, and a ton of others on. I can't wait for this show to start up again. Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted March 11, 2002 Hey...I'm on the internet anyway...wrestling radio sounds DAMN good to me.
Guest Repo Man jr Report post Posted March 11, 2002 You didn't like the Jim Neidhart interview? Dave: "So Jim, hows it going?" Jim: *eats sandwich* "Uh, good" Dave: "Errr, thats good. So Jim you trained with the Hart family, can you tell us a little of what thats like?" Jim: *Eating sandwich* "Uh, cool" Dave: "Okay......so, you just did a tour in England. How was that?" Jim: "Yeah...........cool" Dave: "Right........................... so what do you want to do next?" Jim: "Ummm, I dunno" Dave: "Do you want to stay in wrestling? Maybe the WWF? Have you had any talks with them?" Jim: "No" Dave: "Would you like to go back?" Jim: "Yeah.........that would be........cool"
Guest areacode212 Report post Posted March 11, 2002 Hey, even Jacques "To make a long story short" Rougeau was a good guest, if a little long-winded. He seemed really enthusiastic about the interview and told a pretty interesting story (the Dynamite/Jacques incident, which supposedly is in "Pure Dynamite"). It was also kinda cool to hear him put over Hogan the way he did, which was a nice change from the usual (such as Raven's "Hogan is a fucking asshole", also from WOL. Guest The Mighty Damaramu Report post Posted March 11, 2002 I must've missed that one. Thank god.....
Guest Repo Man jr Report post Posted March 11, 2002 I forgot about Jacques "To make a long story short" Rougeau! That was classic. I don't think he can start a sentance without that line. Mrs Rougeau: "Morning dear, how did you sleep?" Jacques: "Well to make a long story short, I slept pretty well" Jacques jr: "Dad will you take us to the zoo today?" Jacques: "Well, to make a long story short, no!" Dave: "And today with have Jacques Rougeau. Jacques, hows it going?" Jacques: "Well to make a long story short, it's going good" Dave: "Thats good......."
Guest The Mighty Damaramu Report post Posted March 11, 2002 We always gotta have that sublime "That's good" from Dave.
Guest Repo Man jr Report post Posted March 11, 2002 As Bryan would say, "Yes we do"
Guest areacode212 Report post Posted March 11, 2002 Yep, not only would he start off every sentence with "to make a long story short,", he would then keep talking for about 15 minutes without letting Dave or Bryan get a word in. He was still a pretty good storyteller though. By the way, here's a WOL fan site, with some funny clips from the show: http://www.geocities.com/davesnipples/
Guest Ry Ry Report post Posted March 11, 2002 Hopefully some of those great WOL callers return. Like that guy that stutters, the pots and pan (GOTTA HAVE SOMEONE CALL AND DO THE POTS AND PAN GIMMICK), Matt from Vancouver, and all the others that I forgot. Any other legendary callers?
Guest Repo Man jr Report post Posted March 11, 2002 Matt from Vancouver phones the LAW and tries to start fights with them. He's like the wrestling radio equivalent of those wrestling fans that turn up everywhere. Who was that one guy that got banned? They got rid of him for being stupid then he went on another show and complained and said they were being mean!
Guest The Mighty Damaramu Report post Posted March 11, 2002 What about that guy that came on at the end. Hillbilly Jim. He was cool.
Guest Army Eye Report post Posted March 12, 2002 Ok here's the latest blurb on WOL from today's update.. Here is as much info as I have right now on the debut of Wrestling Observer Live which will be on Sunday night from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Eastern time for a special show from Detroit. We should have a complete station list up by tomorrow on the site. The show will be going weekly but be two hours in duration. The time slot isn't finalized other than it will be Sunday nights, most likely from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. Eastern. The show will be available on the web at www.sportsbyline.com live. It will be archived on CBS Sportsline but the turnaround time at first may be as long as one week.
