Guest HartFan86 Report post Posted January 12, 2003 Just letting you guys know, Edge was on Seattle doing publicity for Mania in Seattle and he visted the field and interviewed the guy in charge of turning Safeco Field into Wrestlemania 19. Here's a few things: -The Wrestling Ring itself will be on 2nd base. -Over 12,000 people will be on the field for the event. -The entrance will be by the "385" sign (I believe near Center-Right Field) That's all I heard so far.....so Discuss. Mania sounds like it's going to be pretty fucking awesome.
Guest The Tino Standard Report post Posted January 12, 2003 If you go to ticketmaster.com, you can see a seating chart for how they are going to set the place up. It looks pretty interesting. The entrance ramp basically comes right out of center field and it comes in on a diagonal in relation to the ring. Also, the aisle is in the corner of the ringside area, not the middle of a side. It had kind of an 80s-WWF look to it in that respect.
Guest BigPoppaKev Report post Posted January 12, 2003 So how many people is that going to hold? 50,000? It does seem like a cool set up.
Guest Quik Report post Posted January 12, 2003 Did he discuss how they're going to put tarps all the empty sections?
Guest The Electrifyer Report post Posted January 12, 2003 I doubt there will be any empty seats. Didn't enough tickets sell over the internet already that they can call this event sold out?
Guest HartFan86 Report post Posted January 12, 2003 Wrestlemania 8 ring a bell? And that's going to be one fucking huge stage.
Guest FeArHaVoC Report post Posted January 12, 2003 Safeco Field has a open roof, right? Lightning Strikes Hunter Down!!!!!!!
Guest Brian Report post Posted January 12, 2003 The roof will be closed. But what they need to do is the Dome Show-esque ring lighting because of the lack of fixture. It sold out in less then an hour and a half after the genral sale started. On a regular basis with no pre-sale, I'm sure it would have sold out in under a day. Guest The Tino Standard Report post Posted January 12, 2003 Just looking at that seating chart, one thing I can definitely say... Some of those floor seats are going to be really, really bad. I mean, if you go to a normal-sized arena and you are on the floor, but not in the first ten rows, its bad enough. If you're like 100 rows back at Safeco... well, good luck seeing anything. Also, with 12,000 people on the field, I think the capacity will be between 55,000 and 60,000. I think it was the Observer that something about a 70,000 seat capacity, but that is WAY off. It's a baseball stadium, not a football stadium.

Add in the 12,000 field seats, you get a little under 60,000. But WWE will say 60,000+ anyway.
Guest TheyCallMeMark Report post Posted January 12, 2003 So what exactly is the definition of sold-out? All the seats are already gone? Because if there aren't any more available... fuck.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted January 12, 2003 A few thoughts: Are sections 102-104 are going to be obstructed by the large stage? I bet they will get over 60,000..which will be a SafeCo record just because of all the other seats added.. Are they putting down anything over the field.. I feel bad for the poor groundskeepers if they don't..that field is gonna be torn up something harsh regardless..
Guest The Old Me Report post Posted January 12, 2003 I really doubt they'll have a problem selling the place out. And yes, I'd imagine those floor seats further in the back will suck.
Guest HartFan86 Report post Posted January 12, 2003 The guy mentioned they have 2 days to tear down the field after Manis is over because the Mariners play later that week. THAT is going to be intresting.

Guest Brian Report post Posted January 13, 2003 Basically, between now and then, they'll have things in place and get an idea of just how much room they have. This will allow them to release new seats later on, so they'll probably end up with 60,000+.

Just look at WM 3. It will be just like that, except smaller. The people in the back of the floor seats had SHITTY ass seats. When it comes to the WrestleMania set up, WWE always come through. Ever since X7, when Vince decided to book large arenas for the event, it has been awesome. Since WM XX will be at MSG, well I would think so, he should ALWAYS book them in large arenas. Just because WM is bigger than life, so should the arena.
Guest snuffbox Report post Posted January 13, 2003 Its the Showcase of the Immortals, anything less than 50,000+ or MSG just wouldn't do the event justice.

Guest Mole Report post Posted January 13, 2003 Whys that Czech?
Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted January 13, 2003 It was at the Rosemont Horizon because it was 1997, and they announce the location of Wrestlemania way ahead of time. That explains how they could get 50,000 at the Alamo Dome for the Royal Rumble and have Wrestlemania at the 18,000 seat Rosemont. They were simply not in the position to book a large arena or stadium that far ahead of time. At this point though, having a Wrestlemania at a normal arena (as in not a stadium or MSG) would be anticlimactic and downright boring.
Guest EternallyLazy Report post Posted January 13, 2003 Slightly off topic as far as SafeCo field is concerned, but I really hope they don't go back to the "WrestleMania: A Celebration of Life" ad campaign that they used for Mania X7... maybe it's just me, but that's really really melodramatic, and I find myself laughing everytime I think of it. Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted January 13, 2003 In the end, that particular event was worth every bit of hype sez I, but you're right. They should really just emphasize its actual wrestling importance and history over it being some event that brings the world together and makes everyone love each other for four hours. The event was amazing and worth all of the praise... but seeing those sequences with the Indian women dancing around a tree holding portable television sets while Blassie says "WrestleMania... a celebration... of life" just sounds like something you would see in a Jerry Zucker slapstick movie... like Airplane

I think WCW had a lock on the United Center the way WWF did with MSG, thus they got stuck in the suburbs for the granddaddy of them all. Fun fact: WrestleMania 13 took place in the smallest city of any to host a WrestleMania, at about 3,800.
Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted January 13, 2003 I always wondered why they had SummerSlam 94 at the United Center, then had all "Chicago" events at the Horizon from there on.
Guest The Czech Republic Report post Posted January 13, 2003 You're right about things being anticlimactic without a big venue. We've had the Astrodome, the Skydome, now Safeco, next year is ostensibly MSG. I wonder if they could do XXI at the Jones Dome, or the Superdome, or maybe the New Soldier Field. If Chicago has a nice Freak Weather Pattern it could be bearable.

They need a cable of some kind in the back of that motherfucker or people forking out some money to see it! Wrestlemania at the Superdome would be INSANE. They could legit get about 85,000 in there after all the seats were figured out with the stage and such.

They could legit get about 85,000 in there after all the seats were figured out with the stage and such. If they could swallow their pride and go for a cool but minimalist stage they won't have to block out such a big portion of seats. Watch with our luck we get a WrestleMania in Uniondale... Guest snuffbox Report post Posted January 13, 2003 How about Miller Park in Milwaukee for a future venue? Nice new retractible roof stadium, could work well, if this SafeCo thing goes allright. Id at least have the opportunity to see Wrestlemania live if it were in Wisconsin, just about the only WWE event Id consider paying to see in its present state.
