WWE vs. The Commandments

Recommended Posts

Guest Goodear

Hey everyone,

I wrote a little article for the site entitled the Booking Commandments that was designed in order to give wrestling promoters an idea of what rules they should follow in order to have a reasonably good and entertaining product. So, in an effort to drum up hits for no reason other than to make myself feel good about myself... I present to you all an anlysis of how well the WWE follows said rules. If you want a really detail explanation of them though, follow the link.

1) You Shall Push Your Wrestlers Before All Else

WWE: HAHAHAHA! Push a wrestler above a McMahon, manager, a valet, or a valet's father? Not bloody likely. WWE thrives on trying to make itself into something other than wrestling just about as much as it can without actually taking down the ring.

Grade: F

2) Your Titles Shall Be Important

WWE: This one is a bit harder to judge if you look at Smackdown and Raw as seperate entities. On SmackDown, it seems as though the World title is the major focus of a number of different feuds while the tag belts were the subject of a number of hot matches and are now head by the very capable Guerreros. But RAW's belts are caught in some serious stink with the handing of the World title over to Triple H to start the lineage, and the recent tag title win by Regal and Storm who just did a job to the announce team and aren't likely to be holding onto those bels very long at all. Say Smackdown is a B+ (Big Show keeping it from an A) and RAW is a D-... so average them out to...

Grade: C

3) The Wrestlers That Are Over Shall Get The Biggest Pushes

WWE: I laugh once more as WWE continues to put over workers like RVD, Jericho and Booker into meaningless programs while continually pushing Triple H like a juggernaught. Smackdown is a little better, but the Brock push from hell and back does not help their cause (even it did work). It's funny to me that as soon as Brock is over enough to actually warrant his title, he loses it though.

Grade: D

4) Older Wrestlers Shall Not Make the Dollars

WWE: Let's just say if you've won a world title in the 90s and are back in the WWE now, you'll probably get the belt once more. The WWE really just loves to hand out nostagalia World title runs to people like Hogan, The Undertaker and Michaels when they are no longer draws and effectively hurt ratings in the process. And the best part is, they never seem to learn their lessons either.

Grade: F

5) The Weight of Your Wrestlers Shall Not Matter

WWE: HOSS HOSS HOSS HOSS HOSS. Really, did Bill DeMott really have to beat the entire cruiserweight division with the exception of Rey and Kidman in his boring ass hell push? Does being large really allow Big Show the credentials needed to be World Champion? Answers: No.

Grade: D (hey, the champions right now are both under 300 pounds...)

6) You Shall Allow Wrestler’s Ideas and All Ideas Shall Be Treated Equally

WWE: That doesn't happen when one guy is in production meetings and dating the bosses daughter. Allowing more people into those meetings would probably be a good way to get the moral of the company back on track and feeling good about their jobs. Who knows where the next great idea is going to come from?

Grade: D

7) The Internet Shall Be Thy Friend But Not Thy Boss

WWE: I get the impression that the WWE doesn't like the internet even a little bit, and I can sort of see why what with all the nonsense that the IWC drops on their heads. But instead of slapping back, WWE really should be doing more to reach those fans and use them as a brand of market research towards the feelings of the core audience.

Grade: D

8) Celebrities Shall Not Wrestle, Characters That Celebrities Play Shall Not be Allowed in The Building

WWE: WWE has pulled off some of the best celebrity cameos in wrestling history with Mike Tyson and Muhammed Ali. But while not in WCW levels of suck (David Arquette and Chucky anyone?). the WWE has had its fair share of bad matches with celebs (the most famous being Lawrence Taylor). So, they fall somewhere in the middle of the mollassas and get a nice solid.

Grade: B-

9) Women That Cannot Wrestle Shall Not Wrestle

WWE: When Dawn Marie and Torrie Wilson have a months long feud for no reason and get time on the Royal Rumble...

Grade: F

10) Hardcore Divisions Suck, Don’t Have Them

WWE: They got rid of theirs.... YAY!

Grade: A

No wonder WWE sucks the meat missile.
