Jason Newkid was OK, but their last good album was Puppets ... unless you count Garage Days. The thing is though, is that a band like that really needs riffs that can make up for the fact that most of their audience doesn't know what the fuck he's saying. As it is, it's just G-Eb-D (w/ a few variants) over and over again with something in german that just sounds cool but doesn't mean anything to most people. It's weird, they sell out these massive venues and you get all these 15 year old kids singing along as if the lyrics mean something to them. Doesn't seem to matter. to redbaron, i think herzeleid is more guitar-based and i like that, but sehnsucht seems like a watered-down-practice -session for mutter in places for me. Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted January 18, 2003 Anyway, I think the whole recycled riff deal is more something that separates good bands from bad ones, as opposed to separating different genres. A lot of cheesy gore bands have a bad habit of doing that, and well, that's what makes them cheesy gore bands. Interesting riffs are one way to tell if a death band's any good or not. Fetus, Cryptopsy: awesome riffs, great death bands. Mortician, Avulsed: repetitive. Not as good. Matching sick riffs with vocals is pretty much the make or break point for grind bands, though.
