Guest Johnson1620 Posted January 14, 2003 Report Posted January 14, 2003 I always rent games before I buy them. So I rented MKDV today and after one night of playing I'm still not sure if I'll but it. I like the fact that all the old characters are back, but the one thing that pisses me off is that Scorpian can't do hi spear. Or at least i can't. if anyone knows feel free to tell me. The gameplay is pretty good, kind of takes some time to get those combos down though. So what did you guys think about it?
Guest EQ Posted January 14, 2003 Report Posted January 14, 2003 He definately has the spear move. It's no longer back, back low punch though. It's either back, forward and one of the punch buttons or forward, back and a punch button. You should check the move list. I think you can get it by pausing the game.
Guest IDrinkRatsMilk Posted January 14, 2003 Report Posted January 14, 2003 Yep, he's got it alright. There's a nice delay after it hits before he yanks them back towards him, makes it better, I think. He also uses the spear in his fatality. Personally I think it's the best Mortal Kombat yet, and I'm a big fan of the series.

Guest EQ Posted January 14, 2003 Report Posted January 14, 2003 You must have missed it or something man. He's definately got the move. On PS2, I think it's back, forward, square. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Special Moves --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Spear --- Back, Forward, Square Summon Hellfire --- Down, Back, Triangle Backflip Kick --- Forward, Back, X --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fatality --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Back, Back, Down, Back, O - Harpoon Decapitation I got that from this FAQ Those are the PS2 controls. I played it for XBOX, and I am positive that he has it in that version as well.
Guest IDrinkRatsMilk Posted January 14, 2003 Report Posted January 14, 2003 You have to scroll through the movelists for each of his fighting styles, and there will be another one for special moves. It's back, forward, x, on the X-Box. edit: beat me to it

Guest Sakura Posted January 15, 2003 Report Posted January 15, 2003 His spear Fatality in MK II was a lot cooler than the spear Fatality in MKDA.
Guest The Man in Blak Posted January 18, 2003 Report Posted January 18, 2003 Meh. I really couldn't get into Deadly Alliance, even with novel new moves like characters puking to make their enemies slip and slide. The different Martial Arts for each character are a wee bit unbalanced and, all in all, there's nothing that this game does that Soul Calibur or Dead or Alive hasn't done better, IMO. It is a good sign for the MK franchise, though, which had been running on fumes since MK2.
Guest Respect The 'Taker Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 ** SPOILER COMING ** ** Don't say i didnt warn you! ** I cannot believe they FUCKING KILLED Lui/Liu/Let's just call him Fred, Kang. In every former MK game i've ripped it up as him and you can only imagine my disgust when i saw him murdered in the opening sequence. Bah.
Guest IDrinkRatsMilk Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 Spoiler Liu Kang will be back one way or another. If you beat the game with Quan Chi, he kills Kano and Shang Tsung, all of Shang's souls are released, and Liu's soul enters Kano.
Guest EQ Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 His spear Fatality in MK II was a lot cooler than the spear Fatality in MKDA. I agree.
Guest Anglesault Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 SPOILER The Game finishes seem to suggest that Fred will be back.
Guest The Man in Blak Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 RESPONSE TO SPOILER That's really fucking sad because, honestly, that was a total highlight for me to see one of the most unbalanced characters in fighting game history get picked off in the opening cinema. Fred slurps the jizz bowl dry.
Guest EQ Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 I always hated Fred. He was so cheap!
Guest IDrinkRatsMilk Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 spoiler discussion when Fred does return, I'm sure he will be much different than he was before. Maybe in the body of Kano (though that's a little out there, even for the MK series). Kano's one of my favorite characters though, I hope that ending isn't true.
Guest EQ Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 Doesn't it also depend on who the designers decide the winner of this MK was anyway? SPOILER Cause if Quan Chi doesn't win the game, then Fred's soul is never released.
Guest IDrinkRatsMilk Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 Spoiler It looks as though this time multiple ending will be true, because several of them are interrelated. Like Nitara, Cyrax, and Reptile's endings all rely on each other, and would have no effect on whoever won the tournament. However, Quan Chi's, Shang Tsung's and Kano's can't all be true, as they contradict each other. So I'm hoping Quan Chi's isn't.
Guest Sakura Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 John Vogel, who has written the story since MK4, says Quan Chi's ending probably will NOT happen.
Guest Respect The 'Taker Posted January 20, 2003 Report Posted January 20, 2003 John Vogel, who has written the story since MK4, says Quan Chi's ending probably will NOT happen. NOOOOOOOOOO!!
Guest EQ Posted January 20, 2003 Report Posted January 20, 2003 Well Scorpion's dead isn't he? I'm sure if they want Fred back in the next game, they'll pull some bullshit either way to bring him back.
