In heaven/afterlife.....

Once we die and our soul goes to heaven, and then the "new earth" is made, are we still just gonna be a bunch of souls floating around, or are we going to get human bodies again?? I mean naturally as a soul/spirit isn't there going to be a lot less things to do. Will we still have feelings and such?

A year or so ago, I asked a lady this and asked her, well if you are a father and you die when your kids are young, won't you be miserable in heaven, because your kids are down there and you can't be with them and help them grow and mature. She told me that when you go to heaven you lose memory of your life on earth. I don't know if she was just making that up for something to say, or if she read it somewhere.......if Dopey or Poet reads this...I am sure they can elaborate, oh and everyone else feel free as well....

The very first thought that comes to mind is that Paul writes in the New Testament that death is more or like "sleeping" until the return of Christ. At which point, IIRC, our bodies are glorified and such and so forth. This is an off-the-top-of-my-head answer, I'll see about posting something later on. If need be I'll retract a statement her that I may have incorrect.

I tend to concentrate more on aspects of Christian living. The death/eternal life is taken care of as far as I'm concerned so I don't concentrate on it all that much. This may be an opportunity to brush up on my knowledge there.

EDIT: I apparently crossed the 1000 mark without even realizing it.

yay . . . go post count . . . or something.

According to Jesus, you don't lose memory of your life on earth after you die. I'm going by the parable of the rich man and Lazarus, both of whom remembered each other when they were dead.

As long as we get wings, I'm happy.

...and if we can shoot laser beams from our eyes.

Ha Ha Ha, That would be Hell. No offense but to see the same person for the rest of eternity would be HELL.

Bullshit! I could accustom myself quite nicely to seeing no one but, say, Angelina Jolie for the rest of eternity.

I hope it's just sleep. I can't be bothered with anything else.

Yea, but if Heaven is like sleep, then what does that make hell?

Also, is it sleep as on earth, where there is a chance of dreams/nightmares? If so, and all you can dream about is stuff that reminds you about your life, then that would feel terrible; even if they were good dreams they'd serve nothing else than to remind you that you're dead, and you'll never see the places or people you'd be dreaming of so fondly.

I actually prefer we not speak of death and the afterlife, since hopefully it's going to be at least a few decades before we get there. Why are there so many topics on this as of late, particularly in the No Holds Barred folder?

If sin is not allowed in the presence of god, and you are in heaven w/god, then are you to assume that once you are in heaven, then you can no longer sin, ala have lustful thoughts. I mean hey what if you saw a pretty fine lookin' soul approach the barstool next to ya?

It's all Dopey's fault.

Yeah something needs to be done to clean this folder up. Perhaps if we let a few lions loose.

In my understanding, I think the analogy of sleep was being used to describe what it's like when you die between then and the time to rise and be glorified. You wouldn't be concious, trapped in an inert body, but rather time would pass instantaneous in your perception, much like how you percieve time when you sleep.

As I understand it. I've not had the chance to look into the verse I'm thinking of and such.

...RESURRECTION...

---------------------

Jesus was the first to be raised from the dead to a glorified existence no longer subject to death as the punshment for sin (Acts 26:23). When He returns to this world He will raise His servants to a resurrection life like His own (1 Cor. 15:20-23; 2 Cor. 5:1-5; Phil. 3:20-21). He will, indeed, raise the whole human race from the dead; but those who are not His will be raised for condemnation (John 5:29) and subject to the "second death" for their sins (Rev. 2:11; 21:8).

Our new bodies will be immortal. Our present bodies, like Adam's, are natural and earthly, subject to weakness and death. The resurrection body, like Christ's, will be spiritual, created and sustained by the Holy Spirit, and will belong to the eternal, imperishable, heavenly order (1 Corinthians 15:45-54).

After His resurrection, Jesus' disciples could recognize Him despite the differences in His new body. In the same way, Christians will recognize one another, and there will be joyful reunions when the separations caused by death are ended. This is apparent from 1 Thess. 4:13-18. In this passage Paul assured those who were grieving that they would see their Christian loved ones again.

GLORIFICATION

-----------------

Glorification is the work of transformation that removes all sin from us and makes us fit to be with God in perfect communion (1 Cor. 13:12), The saints will worship and serve God with a nature made whole and a heart set free. Our desire to be with God and enjoy His love will be fulfilled in the presence of the triune God (Job 19:26; Matt. 5:8; Rev. 22:3-4).

Paul's description in Rom. 8:30 of the process whereby God saves His elect concludes with a striking past tense: "He also glorified" those who were saved. Literally, glorification is still in the future for everone other that Jesus Himself. Paul's thought apparently is that our glorification has already been decided by God as part of His sovereign plan and can be spoken of as absolutely certain.

I hope this sheds some light on the situation.

I didn't read the thread totally, so if someone has sid this then excuse me. After one dies, you do NOT become an angel, you do NOT get wings and a halo, etc... The angels of Heaven are a totally different entity than that of our souls and bodies as we know them. They were created before the creation of the world, etc... Satan was one of these angelic beings as many of you know, the highest ranked angel as a matter of fact.

When you die, your spirit leaves your body, your shell if you will. You will not look the same, as it will be a different body, it will be a spiritual body. In spirit, there is no "sex" like male and female either, this is all in the Bible. our spiritual bodies are sexless, and could best be explained as being an extention of our mind, or conscience if you will.

So yeah, angels are a totallly different bening than that of our spiritual bodies.

I do not agree with the common belief that once you die, you "sleep" before being raised up. There is no waiting period for one to go to Heaven, once you die, you are INSTANTLY in the afterlife.

That very well could be, DH, but that particular scripture came to mind and seemed appropriate.
