Guest EQ Report post Posted January 15, 2003 After about a month without new episodes, Smallville is new tonight. I got a chance to download the episode, and I can say it is easily one of the best of the season.

Guest Karnage Report post Posted January 15, 2003 LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - The episode of "Smallville" featuring big-screen Superman Christopher Reeve begins shooting next week, and viewers will see it during February sweeps. There's also a chance his character, a scientist named Swann who gives Clark Kent (Tom Welling) clues to his true identity, will become a recurring presence on the WB series. Al Gough, one of the show's creators, told reporters Saturday (Jan. 11) at the TV Critics Association press tour that they'd like to have Reeve back, and the character could play a key role in the future of the series. "Every hero needs a wise man," Gough says. Gough says he and co-creator Miles Millar knew there would be a character in this season's story arc that would tell Clark about his origins and give clues about his destiny. In discussing the character, they decided Reeve would be a good person to play the part. Reeve turned out to be a fan of the series, and everything else clicked into place. "It's sort of passing the torch from one generation of 'Superman' to the next," Gough says. So he's a wheelchair scientist I guess..
Guest Lethargic Report post Posted January 15, 2003 Have you seen the 3 names that are supposedly the leaders for the Superman movie after a recent batch of screen tests? Ashton Kutcher, Kip Pardue and Barry Watson. If they want him to be that young in the movie, why not just let Smallville run it's course for 2 more season and then move Welling into the movie? I'm sure it'll be 2 more years before it gets made anyway. Production work has already been stopped because of budget concerns.
Guest EQ Report post Posted January 15, 2003 Wow... I really like that idea. I agree with Lethargic. If they're looking for people that young to play Superman/Clark, might as well use Welling... Just to capitalize off Smallville's popularity
Guest Sassquatch Report post Posted January 15, 2003 Welling needs to gain about 30 pounds if they expect him to play Superman in a movie (ala Reeve).
Guest raptor Report post Posted January 15, 2003 I don't think Welling needs to be heavier. If they're doing an "origin of Superman" type thing, it would be a natural extension of the Smallville series.

Guest Lethargic Report post Posted January 16, 2003 According to AICN, Ratner is being taken off the Superman movie and being replaced by Michael Bay. If that turns out to be true it's the best news I've heard on it so far. Even the possibility of that happening gives me hope for the movie. I know people don't like Bay but I think Bay has the right kind of imagery and style and action sense to pull off something as big as a Superman movie. Even with a peferct script and a perfect cast I don't think Ratner could do it. You could fit Ratner's directing talent in a thimble. At least Bay is good at something. I can't think of a single thing Ratner is good at if you discount being good at sucking dick as actually being good at something.
