Guest Downhome Report post Posted January 15, 2003 I'm sure there must've been a kick-ass tag match from the early years, what with the Steiners and Quebecers hanging around, that could've been better than Kane beating everybody. I know it wasn't very early, but Austin/HBK Vs. Owen/Bulldog was a great match.
Guest RedJed Report post Posted January 15, 2003 I thought the show was worse than any illogically booked Raw ever.......in fact it was probably the most depressing two hours of wrestling related television that I've ever seen, and this covers almost 20 years of me following pro wrestling thoroughly. What was sad about this show was the underlined themes (if you looked at it from just a front page type of way).......the ridiculousness of the HHH-Steph shit (which is so ironic when you think about the bottom line of their pull in the company and most likely, alot of the stuff they THINK is entertaining)......the fans booing the fuck out of a stale gimmick in the babyface Rock that is clearly their own fault(but watch, he will come back still as a face), and then of course some of these picks for award winners which goes to show what the company thinks worked and what didn't (apparently). Also, they tried to make the current product in their eyes way better than it really is, if you ask me. I mean cmon, TLC 2002 as the best Raw match EVER?!! Trish above Sunny, Chyna, and Sable in their prime?! Lets not forget about the lack of past stars, which is probably not intentional, meaning they tried their damndest to get who they could but COULDN'T due to the companies past coming back to really haunt them here. And then the past starts who got any sort of recongnition were basically pissed on (i.e Austin and Foley) and even if it was all some twisted plan to build heat for a return or just trying to get them back, it shouldn't have been done on a show like that was trying to take itself serious as a legitimate awards show (bleh, what a joke). Bottom line.......this company is EXTREMELY out of touch with the fans and the general scope of the business at this point, maybe more than ever. And this show proved that, tenfold. I thought this show was going to be more than anything a way to pay tribute to the past of the company and not to moreless bury it subtly, among other things. What I got out of it was a very bad and bleak future for the WWE more than ever. Then right after I watched it, I go to 1wrestling and see a news bit that the WWE is looking for new writers, of course THAT has to be absurd as well, as they are looking for hollywood comedy writers to "train" to write pro wrestling. Yeah, that worked great already with Gerwitz. God, they are soooo out of the loop it's going to take something fierce for them to get out of it.
Guest Downhome Report post Posted January 15, 2003 To their credit, I did mark out for one thing though: Brock Lesnar doing the happy dance in a suit. Thanks Brock. I thought I was the only person in the world entertained by that, I laughed my ass off.
Guest The Czech Republic Report post Posted January 15, 2003 They had 10 years of memories and couldnt produce anything older thdn what 3 years old, or any stars that werent from thd last 4, I think we have a winner in ball dropping, there was SO SO SO MUCH they could have done, but they ignored it all. A RAW moment that wasnt even covered and is something I along with alot of others STILL remember is the 123kid win over Ramon, that was a HUGE shocker and wasnt even mentioned, or so i read.(I think it was from raw.) I wish the Austin-Pillman Gun Incident was shown in its entirety. They cut out Austin tripping on a kiddie pool. Seriously, that was good television. When I was a young little republic and watching that I was spooked about the whole thing. I was actually on the edge of my seat saying "they're not gonna, they're not gonna do this" over and over. It was just good acting across the board. And yes, Brian Pillman IS Kurt Cobain. Of course, this took place in 1996. The Mae Young Hand Incident was trash. That was not funny, interesting, nor did it make any sense why a rubber glove came out of her crotch. But since the "fans" remember it, it's a classic. I don't remember USA threatening Vince with cancellation with the hand.
Guest Will Scarlet Report post Posted January 15, 2003 I just can't get over how they could give a "greatest matches" award away and not actually nominate any great matches. Where was Flair-Perfect? Bret-Kid? Jericho/Benoit-Austin-HHH? Angle-Austin? The 10-man tag from 2000? Anything pre-Russo? I did not mind that the matches were bad for their great matches category, but they could have at least had some matches with some historical significance. Kane & Hurricane lost the belts a few weeks later and were forgotten in history, Jeff Hardy is a Heat jobber now, Austin ended Kane's one day reign, and I am not sure about the HHH-Cactus match. It was seemingly three forgettable matches and HHH-Cactus. Yippee.
Guest Zero_Cool Report post Posted January 15, 2003 Funny how the guys who get scraps also happen to be the bright spots of the shows. Poor Hurricane must feel all left out that he wasn't in "the best RAW match EVER!!".

For crying out loud, I expected MATCHES. Not chopped-up promos with music beinhd them where it wasn't meant to be. With everything that's happened on Raw, you need a hell of a lot more than two hours on a Tuesday night.

While those were both great, the crowd made the show tonight. Congrats to ANYONE who was at it!
Guest Zero_Cool Report post Posted January 15, 2003 My big mark-out moment was just the crowd in general, with the Rocky insults. I couldn't help but high five my brother in laughter after the "boring" chants. But boy, did Jericho look like Rock's bitch tonight..I mean, c'mon, he's 3000 miles away, snatch and run! Guest Downhome Report post Posted January 15, 2003 When the show first came on, I was SO pumped with how awesome that video was of all of the stuff from the past and today, PERFECTLY in beat with the music. But, it was all downhill from there.

I think that shit with what Rocky did with Jericho, made Jericho look about as bad as he's ever looked. Why did they do that? Say what you may about HHH or HBK, but that crap REALLY made Jericho look week, in my eyes more than anything else.
Guest AndrewTS Report post Posted January 15, 2003 To their credit, I did mark out for one thing though: Brock Lesnar doing the happy dance in a suit. Thanks Brock. Hehehe...I liked that too. It almost looked like he was doing a little jig as well. Shame though that out of the show that's one of the few things I really enjoyed. Although Y2J, his outfit, his promo, and saying that he wore it because of advice from Blassie was also funny.
Guest Downhome Report post Posted January 15, 2003 Now that I really think about it, I'm HIGHLY pissed at what they let Rocky do to Jericho. It did NOTHING to further any type of storyline, at all, and really hurt his character in my eyes. They should have done what I said when this was first annouced, that being, do NOT let all the wrestlers be in character to put one another down, in an angle like setting. They should have allowed this to be a serious event, but they failed as always.

Guest The Czech Republic Report post Posted January 15, 2003 I actually liked Edge's little speech at the end. Call me crazy, but Edge just seems like a cool, natural guy, and I can't think of anybody who could've given the final speech, except for Michaels or Hart, but that's been gone over many times. I found it kind of weird that a Smackdown guy did the final honours, but Edge did a great job, so I'm not really complaining.
Guest Downhome Report post Posted January 15, 2003 Edge did fine, but he wasn't the type of "star power" that should have done it.
Guest IB2BLACK Report post Posted January 15, 2003 Down, who should have done it? Maybe Angle, or even Vince or Linda, since it's their company. Who we support with our $$$$$$.
Guest Downhome Report post Posted January 15, 2003 I think Vince is out of the question since he was playing a heel all night. Linda is horrible on the mic, Steph shouldn't do it because she's GM, etc... Vince SHOULD have done it had he not been playing a heel all night and was being himself. I say that HBK should have done it, since he's been there longer than anyone else, unless I'm mistaken. He's been there through it all, and he would have been perfect for it. Guest Miss Indy Queen Report post Posted January 15, 2003 Well after going to the Raw 10 year anniversary show, I have to say the show was disappointing. First off the doors were suppose to open at 7pm however I was in the building at 8pm and there was still a long line still trying to get in. The idea of having "past wrestlers" was a joke, once I got inside. The crowd definitely made the night worthwhile. Lots of you sold out chants to rocky along with some boos, people chanting we want bret, and so forth. However at the end of the night, the superstars were STUCK in the restaurant because there was a huge fire in times square on the same block. So you have fire trucks galore when I came out of the building and the wrestlers are stuck inside because no traffic can pass by the world. Pretty funny way to end the night with none of them able to leave for a long time.

Maybe Taker or JR, I don't know, but Edge just didn't seem like he belonged there at the end to me. (No, this does NOT stem from my disliking him.)

Guest The Amazing Rando Report post Posted January 15, 2003 I thought it was funny that Steph pretty much stayed in continuity when it came to the HHH/Steph relationship on WWE TV...though seeing Hunter's ass didn't appeal to me in the slightest... now if only they could have had Kane explain where his "powers" went and why he can't just light HHH on fire with his hand... now THAT would be MUST SEE TV
Guest ManKinnd Report post Posted January 15, 2003 Funny thing is, if you take a look at the Raw X magazine, it's actually a wonderful little look at the past ten years of Raw. It's the top 100 moments in the show, and if this anniversary "special" had simply been them running down this list, say from 50, or even 25, it would've been just great. The article from the magazine is definately worth a read.
Guest creativename Report post Posted January 15, 2003 I think one lasting thing did come out of this show: Rock coming back as a heel must now be almost assured. I think that before, while Heyman and probably others would have pushed heavily for a Rock heel turn (seeing as how it's the most obvious thing in the world), Vince would have been reluctant. But since Vince thinks so highly of the opinion of New York fans, and he was actually present while the overwhelming chants and booing were happening (I'm sure the impact for him is greater in a situation where he's close to the action, rather than watching on a monitor), it seems guaranteed that even Vince now understands what must be done. I still think that Vince only made Brock face because of the cheers he received at SummerSlam--him being too stupid to realize that that was predominantly Rock-backlash, and not Brock-love. In fact I think that if it wasn't for Vince's placing such a high weight on NY fans' opinions, Brock would still be a heel and we'd have Angle winning the Rumble and eefeating champ Brock in the Mania Main, as it should have been...but, WWE has actually recovered quite nicely from botching that, with Team Angle and Kurt's new "Crutches are badass" persona. Anway, heel Rock should be quite entertaining...here's hoping they don't turn him just to feed him to Goldberg.

That would defy the WWE's logic of "we must feed these viewers utter crap till we find a way to make the crap taste good to them". ...I'm beginning to wonder if I should call the WWE the new WCW.
