Guest hardyz1 Report post Posted January 16, 2003 Social Security Reform I really don't care for it. I don't actually have a real job, thus I haven't actually had any of it withheld, but the idea of taking from me to give to people who didn't have the foresight to plan for themselves is disconcerting. *Doesn't want to work past 50 if I can help it*
Guest RobJohnstone Report post Posted January 16, 2003 SS was a bad idea from the start. End it, and end it soon. If people do not plan for their future, fuck em. --Rob
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted January 16, 2003 The problem with SS is that when it was first created most people didn't live long enough to collect it. Not today. Even when it was installed, FDR said this program shouldn't be someone's primary source of income during their golden years. Democrats somehow forget to mention this when pimping this program's preservation...
Guest RobJohnstone Report post Posted January 16, 2003 well, democrats often forget to mention certain things. So this is no surprise. --Rob
Guest EricMM Report post Posted January 16, 2003 Yeah but a whole lot of elderly people vote. You CAN'T get rid of Social Security without losing a vast amount of votes, and no politician would EVER do that.
Guest NoCalMike Report post Posted January 16, 2003 Have you seen "golden years" folks in the work place?? Yah, they don't need to be there.
Guest RobJohnstone Report post Posted January 17, 2003 Blah, I am not saying stop it and fuck everyone right now. There is some money in ss from the babyboom years. So if you wanted to cut SS you say anyone under 35, stop paying into the fund, because your not getting any. Anyone over 35 continues to pay into it and then when the last person from that time dies then it will finally be over. --Rob
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted January 17, 2003 What is the problem with allowing, people the option of putting some of their social security in the stock market.
Guest Midnight Express83 Report post Posted January 20, 2003 There is none. The problem is that everyone bitches and moans about SS until they get it. And it isn't much. People, remember when you are 65 and up why have to keep working hard when in some fields, you just simply can't anymore. I work with 4 people who are over 69. Because they need the money to keep paying the bills. With retirement plans and SS people can live a good life until they past. Thats why so many companies have 401K and IRAs, because they force you to look out for your OWN future. Its not the people in the sweet 9-5 that SS doesn't really help in the end. It is the people who work the Stone yards and plants who need to retire when they hit 65 because they just can't do it anymore. BTW: Everyone should put 20,000 in Funds and Bonds so that they can have some kind of living when they get to their golden years.
Guest Tyler McClelland Report post Posted January 25, 2003 One of the reasons social security is failing is because people who DON'T need it are still allowed to recieve it (a Clinton blunder, I believe). Another is that for all the money people pay into it, they recieve all of it within 2 and a half years. People routinely live 15 years after they start to recieve it. Where's the money coming from? Heh. We're gonna bankrupt our government some day, and this current system of Social Security is one good way to start.
Guest DrTom Report post Posted January 26, 2003 One of the reasons social security is failing is because people who DON'T need it are still allowed to recieve it (a Clinton blunder, I believe). I think that's always been in place, though Clinton did shoot down a bid to change that, IIRC. I've always thought that the rich shouldn't receive Social Security. It should be for those who need the money, not just for everyone who turns 65. The problem is how to determine who's too affluent to receive it, considering there are quite a few ways to disguise wealth.
