Guest HHHater Report post Posted January 17, 2003 I think it's kinda cool how WWE is reverting to the early to mid-1990s, when any new guy coming into the company was re-packaged with an "out-there" gimmick and given a bunch of cool vignettes setting up his debut. Nathan Jones and Sean O'Haire look to have awesome gimmicks, but my major concern is the current WWE politics. The reason that successful gimmick wrestlers like Razor Ramon, Mankind, Goldust, etc. were allowed to get over was that they were thrust into main event status within a few months of their debut. Undertaker...we all know his story. Razor debuted in '92, and within no time he was wrestling as Ric Flair's tag partner in the semi-main event of the Survivor Series. By the 1993 Royal Rumble, he had a shot are Bret's WWF title. Mankind debuted in April of '96, and two months later he was beating The Undertaker clean at the KOTR. Goldust debuted in the fall of '95, and at the '96 Rumble he beat Razor relatively clean (except for some minor 1-2-3 Kid interference) to win the I.C. title. My point is, as great as Sean O'Haire and Nathan Jones might be in their new gimmicks, they will never get over without a strong push. If not, it'll be like Val Venis all over again. Guest AndrewTS Report post Posted January 17, 2003 I think Val would have been able to main event eventually if injuries didn't bog him down. When healthy he's an awesome worker. I personally think WWE feels a gimmicked worker just doesn't belong in the main event, which is why I think they try to push more 3 dimensional characters. DX HHH never got pushed to the main event. Once he was getting his huge push, he was turned into a more serious character. Mick Foley's different personalities as well as his real name was revealed to wrestling fans before he won his title. Rock...well, I guess you can't nail his character down as having any real gimmick, but he's a comedy wrestler that seems a tad out of place among the more serious main eventers. He can be serious when he needs to, though.
