Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted January 17, 2003 I yanked this from Yahoo ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - Mmm ... renewal: Fox has greenlit two more seasons of animated powerhouse "The Simpsons (news - Y! TV)" and another year of its Sunday benchmate "King of the Hill." The "Simpsons" renewal through May 2005 means the show -- Sunday night's top-rated series among adults 18-49 -- will make it through a jaw-dropping 16th full season and roughly 360 episodes, allowing Homer and Co. to edge past "The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet" to claim the mantle of longest-running laffer in TV history. "Watch out, 'Gunsmoke,' you're next," quipped Al Jean, showrunner and executive producer of "The Simpsons." ("Gunsmoke" ran for a record 20 years.) For "King of the Hill," the one-year extension through May 2004 will bring Hank Hill and his Texas brood to the end of their eighth season. "I don't feel like we're an aged show at all," said Greg Daniels, co-creator and exec producer of "King." "I view it like dog years, so I'm hoping we're in our prime ... (on the way) to 15 years." Fox Entertainment president Gail Berman praised both shows, claiming "The Simpsons" could be "the most extraordinary television show maybe even in the history of the medium. "In its 14th season, the show is doing some of its funniest episodes and best numbers," she said. "King of the Hill," meanwhile, has "aided in the branding of our network as the only broadcaster that's been able to tackle primetime animation," she said. "This show does anything we ask it to do," Berman said, noting its ability to draw an audience in many different time slots. "And they consistently put out one of the funniest shows on TV." Indeed, "King" is expected to move back to 7:30 p.m. Sundays from 8:30 p.m. in March to make room for new Fox comedy "Oliver Beene." Daniels said he's OK with the shift. "I'm not surprised if we have to step aside and make room for new shows; I hope one day to be back if they have the need," he said.
Guest Bosstones Fan Report post Posted January 17, 2003 Oh goody. Two more years of shitty, unfunny Simpsons' episodes. Whoo boy, I can't wait...
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted January 17, 2003 Oh goody. Two more years of shitty, unfunny Simpsons' episodes. Whoo boy, I can't wait... What's the big deal. They've ruined their legacy with the last 5 years of bad episodes. What sucks is they"ll never show any of the classics with over 360 shows.
Guest IDrinkRatsMilk Report post Posted January 17, 2003 The Simpsons only sucks when compared to itself. It's still better than half the shit out there.
Guest Mad Dog Report post Posted January 17, 2003 Is it so much to ask for the syndication people to play anything pre 1996 during the week?
Guest OctoberBlood Report post Posted January 17, 2003 Ah, good news. I love the Simpsons.
Guest Scarlet Pimpernel Report post Posted January 18, 2003 I love it how everybody hates something that's good, but more than 6 years old. I thought I was cool, but once I hit age 17, I knew that I was just sticking around for the money, and that my real self died once I sold out for puberty. Guest NoCalMike Report post Posted January 18, 2003 The Simpsons only sucks when compared to itself. It's still better than half the shit out there. Correct. THat just shows HOW GREAT the simpsons has been. So it isn't up to par with 5 years ago, who cares, it is still probobaly one of the ONLY comedy shows on network TV I will watch. Only comedy I like just as much now is "Curb Your Enthusiasm"

Guest Bosstones Fan Report post Posted January 18, 2003 Oh goody. Two more years of shitty, unfunny Simpsons' episodes. Whoo boy, I can't wait... No one is forcing you to watch it. Yeah, I know that. And I don't watch hardly any of them; haven't seen more than 3 or 4 a year for the last 5 or 6 years now. But this still sucks because Fox will still run commercials for the show incessantly and TV Guide (and all the other drooling fanboys who think Groening and Co. can do no wrong) will still give the show much fellatio whenever possible. It disgusts me to see such high praise given to a show that is so mediocre.

Guest Dr. Wrestlingphysics Report post Posted January 19, 2003 The Simpsons is good. It may not be as good as previous series, or have "believable" storys, but dammit, it's a comedic cartoon, not a freaking social documentary! It has enough funny moments to keep me watching, and I take this renewal as good news. King of the Hill, however, I don't care about.

While I agree that there are more crappy episodes lately than there were in the peak years, the good still greatly outnumbers the bad. I can tell by your login name that you're a Bosstones fan. I haven't listened to an album of there's since Devils Night Out came out, so only know what I've heard on the radio or at shows ... would it make sense for me to say that they now suck?!? Guest Kinetic Report post Posted January 19, 2003 Well, at least King of the Hill is renewed. Count me in for the "why do they keep renewing a show that hasn't been funny since 1997" party as it pertains to The Simpsons. And whether or not it only sucks compared to itself, it still isn't particularly funny anymore. But because the show's been able to fly under the radar for all these years, they can continue making mediocre, inane episodes until all of the voice actors are dead. Maybe after that.
