Comic Book Movie Casting Thread

So, do you, like so many believe that Fox well and truly fucked up casting Daredevil? Do you think Christian Bale should play Batman? Do you think that Superman should fight Parasite instead of Lex Luthor in the upcoming Superman? Then do what any self-respecting internet cynic would do: Tell them what you would have done, and then tell them why they're wrong, and you're right. How, you ask? By posting YOUR picks for casting the up coming and recently released comic book movies.

I'll start:

BATMAN:

Batman/Bruce Wayne : Guy Pierce

The Joker/"Jack" : Tim Roth

Com. Gordon : Harvey Kietel

Alfred : Anthony Hopkins

Harvey Dent : Liam Neeson

Selina Kyle/Catwoman : Brittany Murphy

Harvey Bullock : Ray Liotta

Mayor Hill : Bob Gunton

Carmine Falcone: Al Pacino

-----------------------------------------

EXPLINATIONS:

Guy Pierce: Pierce *looks* like a man who has been wronged. He's a bit gaunt but he gain muscle for the role. He also has the talent to play Bruce and Bats as two different people. Something only Keaton touched on and Kilmer hinted at. (Watch the personality shifts in his turn as Ed Exley in LA Confidential.)

Tim Roth: Look at him. He IS the Joker, come to life. He has the hair, the laugh, he's *proven* he can ditch the accent, he can also play Jack before his accident.

Harvey Kietel: If you put a beard on Kietel's face he IS Gordon. This is a fucking NO BRAINER.

Anthony Hopkins: Has anyone else seen Remains of the Day? He knows what a butler's supposed to act like.

Liam Neeson: Neeson has the class, sophistication, and emotion to do this well.

Brittany Murphy: I'm going with Year One Catwoman here. The slutty, trashy, looking whore who Bruce beats up his first night out. She's got sluttiness in spades.

Ray Liotta: After NARC, he should be given all cop roles. He owns your ass. He is wise. He is just. He is the *true* emperor of kings.

Bob Gunton: He played the warden in Shawshank Redemption. He looks perfect and his voice is right for it as well.

Al Pacino: Wishful casting I admit, but he'd have a blast with this.

Based on what I've read in the comic (based on a not-quite-final movie script) and I can pretty much tell you that it's gonna suck...

Oh, I'll see it anyway. I must see every comic book movie that comes out, if only to ensure that it makes enough for more to come out.

I think MCD will kick ass though.

I'm firmly in the Christian Bale as Batman camp. Besides that I'd like to see Charlize Theron as Catwoman. I've always seen Catwoman as almost a 40's vamp type chick and Theron has that gig down. I don't really have gripes with your picks though. I could live with that with exchanging the Catwoman. Even with a Year One story, Murphy just seems way too young and way too small to be Catwoman. Murphy seems more fit to play that girl that was living with Catwoman in Year One than Catwoman herself. Theron is so much taller that she'd be a better physical match for whoever plays Batman.

As far as Superman, I'd still like to see them wait a couple of years and move Welling in there.

It's not that big of a deal to me really. As long as they get somebody that can act instead of just getting a star. And so far all the recent comic movies have been doing that. I think the Daredevil casting is absolutely perfect. Just them having the brains and guts to ignore the fact that Kingpin is white and just picking a person that fits the role to a tee, skin color be damned, is enough to make me want to see it. Garner I could live without, because it just seems like she's playing the same character that she plays every week on TV, but whatever.

I just hope they continue the trend of casting actors instead of personalities. No more over the top Batman villains like Arnold, Jim Carrey or Jack Nicholson. Quit turning all the villains into comedians and just put in some good actors that can actually make the villains seem at least a LITTLE evil.

Roth is too short to play the Joker if he was ever being considered to play the part.

I would have no problem with Bale playing Batman since has the built to play Batman since he doesn't need to the Keaton buffed out suit.

I'd much rather see Julie Strain play Catwoman more than anyone who has been mentioned so far. She has sex appeal and brains. It also doesn't hurt that she is pretty familiar with the character as well.

The Daredevil movie doesn't look good from what I have seen but I'll make my judgement call once I see the movie.

Welling needs to be a little older and a lot more muscular before I'd green light a Superman movie with him in it.

Julie Strain should be Wonder Woman instead of Catwoman I think. Of course I'd love to see the Warner Brothers board room as somebody suggest Julie Strain to be either. haha That'd be priceless. "You want WHO to play WHAT?!"

Of course I'm about to give up completely on any Batman movie happening anyway. I think the Batman Beyond: Year One movie that I just ordered will probably be the only live action Batman movie I'll see anytime soon.

I don't think Welling is too young for the Superman movie considering that everybody that they ARE considering for the role seems to be around the same age or a couple of years younger. It just seems to make sense to me. Smallville can't last forever. Kent has to move to the big city eventually. Why not move on to the movies as Superman. Plus I just really want it to happen so this stupid Superman movie they're doing now will get canned. haha

I was thinking about the Guy Pearce as Batman thing. What about Guy Pearce as Joker instead of Batman? He kinda matches him pretty good physically I think. Man I'd loose a limb to see Bale's Batman vs Pearce's Joker in a Darren Aronofsky directed dark Batman movie.

I've thought about Brad Pitt as the Joker before too. He's been pretty good in the past at playing crazy ass people. Though he'd seem pretty small too and would be just like Nicholson, such a big star that it'd be distracting and just be Brad Pitt in makeup instead of "the Joker." Another guy I used to think would make a good Joker, but is probably too old at this point, is Ray Wise. There was a time when he was on Twin Peaks where he went crazy and his hair turned white. He used to go around with this FREAKY ass grin and just looked completely homocidal and insane. Suddenly it just hit me while watching it one time, wow, if that hair was white instead of green that IS the Joker. But since we already had one senior citizen Joker, don't need another one.

Aronofsky doing Batman? Eh...

As much as I'd LOVE to see him direct another movie, it would probably be better just to give him a bunch of relative no-names and let him do his thing.

Yeah, let him do this thing.....with the Batman movie. I wasn't sure about it at all until I saw the scene in Requiem where Leto and his mom are sitting at a table talking and the shadows in the room are such an important part of the scene it's like another character. If he could do such kick ass things with shadows in a movie like Requiem and in a scene that is nothing but two people sitting down and talking, I'd shit a brick to see him use that kind of style with Batman. I think the only smart thing WB has done so far is signing Aronofsky. Now if they'd just let him do it.
