My thoughts on.....

Recommended Posts

Guest O.J. Hart

My local baseball team is the pittsburgh pirates, and here are my thoughts on them for 2003.

Alot of big signings have gone on for the pittsburgh pirates in the winter of 2002 into 2003. We've acquired Randall Simnon, Matt Stairs, Matt Herges, Jim Mann, and now we've signed Rolando Arrojo and "Big Daddy, Jeff fucking D'Amico. Holy shit did i mark out when i found out the signed D'Amico. Now, we're very close to signing outfielder Carlos Beltran who declined arbitartion with the Kansas City Royals and that would give us a decent lead-off center fielder.

Heres my projected 2003 line-up

CF Carlos Beltran

C Jason Kendall

LF Brain Giles

3B Aramis Ramirez

1B Randall Simon

RF Craig Wilson/Matt Stairs

2B Pokey Reese

SS Jack Wilson

Pitcher

Rotation

1.Kris Benson

2.Kip Wells

3.Josh Fogg

4.Brian Meadows

5.Jeff D'Amico

Bullpen

Closer: Mike Williams

8th Inning Man: Brian Boehringer

Key Set-up Man: Scott Sauerbeck

Middle Relief: Matt Herges

Middle Relief: Nelson Figueroa

Long Reliever: Joe Beimel

Specialist: Rolando Arrojo

Also, after a terrible 2002, Aramis Ramirez has already reported to Bradenton, Florida, with hitting coach Gerald Perry to work on his batting stance, and has weight lifted for a couple weeks now losing 20 pounds.

GOOD LUCK BUCS! CAN'T WAIT FOR MARCH!!!!

You're a diehard fan. If the Twins were expected to suck, I could care less when the season starts.

OJ, I say, for the Pirates - they have made some good signings, and with Stairs/Randell, it gives Giles some help. Plus, I really like Herges and he makes the Pirate bullpen even better than it was last year.

Onto the Reds, projected Lineup/Rotation ...

Rotation

01. Danny Graves

02. Jimmy Haynes

03. Ryan Dempster

04. Chris Reitsma

05. Paul Wilson

I see alot of good things coming out of this rotation in the next few years. Especially Reitsma, he'll win 20 games by 2005.

As an Orioles fan, I don't think that I could do a decent projected lineup for them. They are probably going to pull at least one trade for a someone with a bat and probably sign I-Rod to a deal (even though I don't want them to..).

For the Red Sox:

C: Jason Varitek

1B: Jeremy Giambi/Bill Meuller

2B: Todd Walker

SS: Nomar

3B: Shea Hillenbrand/Meuller

LF: Manny Ramirez

CF: Johnny Damon

RF: Jeremy Giambi

Rotation:

1. Pedro

2. Lowe

3. Fossum

4. Frank Castillo

5. Ryan Rupe

Bullpen:

Ramiro Mendoza

Mike Timlin

Chad Fox

Tim Wakefield

Alan Embree

The closer will be "by committee."

Who really knows at this point if they're going to get either bullpen help or a #3 starter.

kkk it is more likely to be the brewers and bucs fighting for last place with the reds and cubs fighting for third.

Well, he might work out of the bullpen, but yes, they re-signed him (arbitration, I think).

Rotation

01. Danny Graves

02. Jimmy Haynes

03. Ryan Dempster

04. Chris Reitsma

05. Paul Wilson

I see alot of good things coming out of this rotation in the next few years. Especially Reitsma, he'll win 20 games by 2005.

You see, you never know. The Reds could be on top next year, or they could be at the very bottom.

Graves. Many say "the next Derek Lowe" and he'll win around 15-20 games. Lets hope.

Jimmy Haynes won 15 last year, if he can do that again this year, then that'd be fantastic.

If Ryan Dempster can return to his 2000 form.

Chris Reitsma showed loads of improvment last year, and he can win 20 games by 2005, and he can win around 13 next year .. he has tremendous talent.

Wilson, well .. I don't know.

But what I'm saying, is the Reds don't look all that good on paper, but if you really look at the stats, and if these guys live up to their potential, we can win - but we won't get far without a true #1 starter, which we need to shop for.

Kingpk- Dn't forget Trot Nixon is still around in RF. As for the rotation, Tim Wakefield is in there, and John Burkett is still there. Castillo won't start, at least not unless someone is injured. GM Theo Epstein is very high on Casey Fossum, and a lot of people think he's going to be very good. As for the bullpen, the Sox now have Ramiro Mendoza, Bob Howry, Alan Embree, Mike Timlin, Chad Fox, and Willie Banks. The don't have an ace, but they have depth.
