Why do people always thank god?

Not too be a god basher or something, but it just pisses me off to see someone say this "I like to thank my parents, the producers, friends, the fans and God for giving me this great talent"...

God does not give you good talent, you worked hard to be good, or have some good producers, to have "good talent". It just doesn't seem right that they throw that in during the award show, but last year at the Grammy's Tool said they thanked Satan, which was cool, but didn't some other band do that???

I don't know about you guys, but i just find it irratating that people thank God to give them this rare talent...

It's pretty funny how they always thank god when they win, but they never seem to blame god when they lose

If they are Christian and sincerely thanking God, it likely stems from them not seeing it the way you do. I believe God made me, he made me to be good at what I'm good at, God is responsible for wiring me to be talented in the ways that I am. So I would certainly thank Him.

For being talented, that is. And even moreso for being able to excel at something that I'm not so talented at and have to really work hard at to be good at.

As for not blaming God when they lose, I would think that the reason for winning an award is to be recognized by your peers and/or the people in General for something you have accomplished somehow. If I, as a Christian, didn't win that award, I'd chalk it up as whomever did won it for a reason, whatever it may be, whether I know what it is or not.

I suppose in short, the ones that are Christian and do it sincerely thank God because they believe God gave them that talent which, as a Christian I believe He did.

"It's a shame we didn't win anything this year. God has not been on our side tonight. We'd like to say, F-you god!"

I find it annoying at awards shows, and even moreso when athletes are interviewed. It's always been my belief that faith (or lack thereof) is a personal matter, and should be discussed among people who are equipped to handle it. In my eyes, someone's faith is diminished when they trumpet it in front of several million strangers. It's not a trinket you wear on your coat to show off to others.

Besides, you caught the touchdown pass. You and you alone. You hit the home run. You won the Oscar. You. Not God, not Jesus, not Buddha, not any other religious figure. Stand up, take a bow, and take the fucking credit you deserve. I've always found it an annoying habit possessed by many Christians that good things happening to them are the works of God, but they and they alone are responsible for the bad stuff. What a depressing double standard to live under.

Agreed. I'd love to see athletes stick it to the man upstairs when they lose a big game. "We would have won the World Series, if God didn't make me strike out!" Even better would be an athlete pretending to be a devil worshipper, just for its inherent shock value. "My home run makes the ritual blood sacrifices to the demon father worthwhile! Hail Satan!" I'd laugh like a motherfucker at all the people who would be sweating bullets and shitting bricks watching something like that.

That would be the mark-out of a lifetime.

I wouldn't thank anyone. I deserved this damn award, and it's nice to see the voters have a fucking clue.

Do what Kurt Angle did at Raw X:

"I'd like to thank myself, for all my hard work"

If I'm ever famous for anything, I guarantee I will thank Satan for any awards. Unless I'm in a metal band or something, then it would be cliche.

I'd LOVE to blame God for me losing out to someone below me, like U2 or nickelback.
