Guest EQ Posted January 18, 2003 Report Posted January 18, 2003 As many of you probably know, the sequel to one of the greatest fighting games of all time, Soul Calibur, is going to be released on home systems soon. For those of you planning on getting it, which system are you going to buy it for? It has been confirmed that each system is getting it's own special character. Gamecube gets Link XBOX gets Spawn PS2 gets Heihachi (from Tekken) Here are some screenshots: http://www.the-magicbox.com/game011503a.htm
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted January 18, 2003 Report Posted January 18, 2003 Doesn't matter. I'm still going to destroy everyone I play using Astaroth.
Guest Sakura Posted January 18, 2003 Report Posted January 18, 2003 Probably PS2. May import it in March. I find all 3 bonus characters to be lame. I hate cute novelty characters like this and Gon in Tekken 3. So bogus that Lizardman, Rock, Hwang, ect. are not in the game but LINK FROM ZELDA is!
Guest Renegade Posted January 18, 2003 Report Posted January 18, 2003 Out of all of the Tekken roster we get Heihachi? Bah!
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted January 18, 2003 Report Posted January 18, 2003 The Gamecube version will at least outsell the X Box version.. I mean, a Nintendo console hasn't had a good fighting game since the days of Killer Instinct and Street Fighter on SNES..Throw in a beloved Nintendo character like Link, and SC2 will sell like hotcakes for the Gamecube.. I probably will get it..I've got a big fat tax rebate check coming..whoohoo..
Guest RenegadeX28 Posted January 18, 2003 Report Posted January 18, 2003 Link vs Soul Caliber 2 fighters...... Man, Link will be kicking ass in my game!
Guest KoR Fungus Posted January 18, 2003 Report Posted January 18, 2003 I'll get the PS2 version, because all I have is a PS2, heh. Hopefully Heihachi will be balanced and fit well into the game. He's my favorite of the extra characters, but none of them do all that much for me. With all this discussion of hidden characters, what gets overlooked is the much more important announcement, which is that there will be weapons that can be earned through the quest mode. If Namco actually gives us the Soul Blade style weapons, this will be the best game ever, heh.
Guest areacode212 Posted January 18, 2003 Report Posted January 18, 2003 They should've had a powered-up Kunimitsu instead (to go with Yoshi), but I have a feeling only TK2/TTT Kuni fans like myself would have been excited about that. Heihachi has more of a "name" among gamers than she does. I wonder if one of Spawn's alternate costumes will be Medieval Spawn, to fit into the SC2 time period a little more.
Guest Flyboy Posted January 18, 2003 Report Posted January 18, 2003 Oh-my-fucking-God. LINK!!!! *marks out*
Guest TheHulkster Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 I don't have a GC and I don't like Tekken that much, so i'll probably pick up the Xbox version.
Guest Karnage Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 I don't know how Spawn relates to Microsoft.
Guest Insane Bump Machine Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 With all this discussion of hidden characters, what gets overlooked is the much more important announcement, which is that there will be weapons that can be earned through the quest mode. If Namco actually gives us the Soul Blade style weapons, this will be the best game ever, heh. True..so true. If there was one thing missing from Soul Calibur to make it a perfect fighting game it was the lack of different weapons for each character. That feature kicked sooo much ass in Soul Edge, and I'm glad it's back. I'm also a huge Zelda fan, so the GCN version is already a must-have.
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 Meh. I'll be happy with the Xbox version, thank you. I decided months ago that would probably end up with the best conversion of the three, and the additions of superheroes and gay elves alone are not enough to change my opinion.
Guest EQ Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 I want to get the XBOX version because I know it will have the best version of the game graphics-wise and the controller is very similar to the Dreamcast. I will probably end up with the Gamecube version though... I can't pass up playing as Link. The GC controller is going to suck for this game though
Guest IDrinkRatsMilk Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 All I've got's an X-Box, so X-Box for me. I'm happy with that though.
Guest EricMM Posted January 20, 2003 Report Posted January 20, 2003 I seriously can't imagine playing a REAL fighter on the Game Cube. That controller is the worst controller Nintendo has ever made. Why space your X and Y buttons like that? Why have the A button so big? It's a mystery!!!!!
Guest EQ Posted January 20, 2003 Report Posted January 20, 2003 I could deal with those buttons, but the D-Pad placement is horrible!
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted January 21, 2003 Report Posted January 21, 2003 Argh..what is with all this gamecube controller hate??? All I ask is that they allow customizable controller configurations and the controller will be just fine.
Guest KingOfOldSchool Posted January 21, 2003 Report Posted January 21, 2003 The GC controller is going to suck for this game though If it means anything to you, there's at least two adapters out that'll allow you to use Dual Shock PS/PS2 Controllers with the Gamecube. Which would be an improvement, at the very least. Nyko Play Cube Cube Joy Box As for the original topic... I'd much rather have the XBox or GC version of the game, but only have a PS2 at the moment, so I don't have much of a choice.
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted January 21, 2003 Report Posted January 21, 2003 I will probably end up with the Gamecube version though... I can't pass up playing as Link. The GC controller is going to suck for this game though Just rent the GC version, have your fun with Link, and no disappointing controls that you have to live with. In related news, Namco has announced they want to sell two million copies. I think it's pretty obvious that people with multi-consoles buying more than one copy like a 'tard is key to their plan.
Guest EQ Posted January 21, 2003 Report Posted January 21, 2003 Argh..what is with all this gamecube controller hate??? All I ask is that they allow customizable controller configurations and the controller will be just fine. I don't hate the GC controller, I just think it's not very well designed in terms of being able to lend itself to all kinds of games. I don't know about anyone else, but I cannot play a fighting game (Smash Bros excluded) with an analog stick. Unfortunately, the D-Pad placement on the GC controller is horrible. It's ok for certain games like Rogue Leader or Metroid where you only need to tap the D-Pad real quick every now and then, but for a game where that would be your primary control, I don't think it's practical.
Guest EQ Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 I just looked closely at those pics of Link, and he has his bow and boomerang... kick ass
Guest What? Posted January 24, 2003 Report Posted January 24, 2003 oh man....I wish I had an X-Box so I could play as Spawn... but, until my dad's vendetta against Bill Gates goes away...no such luck
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Posted January 26, 2003 Report Posted January 26, 2003 oh man....I wish I had an X-Box so I could play as Spawn... but, until my dad's vendetta against Bill Gates goes away...no such luck I think maybe your dad is a loser.

Says the man who worships a rapist. Anyway, I don't really care if Heiachi is in the game or not, cuz I'm not gonna use him. Astaroh + PS2 = booked weekends
