TheFranchise Posted January 18, 2003 Report Posted January 18, 2003 For the past two years, well, maybe more, since Chyna won the battle royal to enter, the WWE have given wrestlers the chance to enter the rumble where they want. Is it me, or does that take out the element of surprise for the rumble match? Especially when you know who is going to be number one, i used to love seeing who would 'draw numbers one and two' in the rumble, but now we know it is going to be jericho and michaels, it kind of gives away the first 20 minutes of the match doesn't it? fight each other, eliminate someone, come back to each other (yeah, i know it's happened before, Austin/HHH comes to mind) Also, why do Raw get to choose their own number? What if Jericho had picked number 30, miss McMahon wouldn't have been too pleased..
Guest snuffbox Posted January 18, 2003 Report Posted January 18, 2003 I doubt Steph would really care, considering its a work and all... The idea of putting entry #'s at stake prior to the Rumble is to add importance and storylines to the match itself, and provide cheap main events for the weeks of tv before the ppv. Thats hypothetically speaking of course.

TheFranchise Posted January 18, 2003 Author Report Posted January 18, 2003 I know it's a work, silly I'd just rather it be at the OTHER end of the rumble, ie 29 and 30, than 1 and 2.

Guest Choken One Posted January 18, 2003 Report Posted January 18, 2003 I understand your plight franchise, I certaintly enjoyed the drama of whose #1 and #2 but it really doesn't make a difference too me. As long as they limit it to only 3 numbers (1,2,30). It first started when Flair said on Superstars he would be #3.
Guest The Hollywood Fashion Plate Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 Damn, Flair gave away his #? I thought the surprise of him entering so early was part of what made his Rumble victory so special...and why Heenan had a triple heart attack when he entered at #3.
Guest Eagan469 Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 I remember for the 1994 Rumble they had the drawing on Superstars, and the wrestlers picked their numbers from plastic eggs in a rotating container. So Bastion Booger goes up, picks his number, looks at it, and starts hugging everyone. "I got #28, I'm so happy, thank you!" Then the announcers reminded Bastion that he wasn't supposed to reveal his number. Fast-Forward to the night of the Rumble - Bret Hart comes in at #28 to replace Bastion Booger, but the announcers think it's because he's sick or something, FORGETTING the storyline that he was being punished for revealing his number. Case in point, they should bring the drawing back as it creates extra storylines and intrigue.
Guest Kahran Ramsus Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 Booger was #25 in the 1994 Rumble and didn't come out because he was sick. Of course, it was made out that Bret Hart was #25. Bret later came out at #27. The Booger thing earlier on Mania did happen though.
Guest The Old Me Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 I remember that Booger incident in 94. I also remember the Undertaker levitating to the top of the arena. They both sucked.

Yeah, the other thing about Heenen not knowing Flair's number, somebody interviewed him earlier in the show, i seem to remember Flair using the line "Lord Alfred, i drew number three" (lol@Lord Alfred, don't get me started) Do Heenen and Monsoon (i think) not see these interviews????
Guest saturnmark4life Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 Yeah, I noticed that. Was Flair's interview added to the tape and not at the show?
Guest teke184 Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 According to my video, it was a "Coliseum exclusive", meaning it was added to the tape but was not on the PPV.
Guest Choken One Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 The superstars happened BEFORE the rumble it wasn't on the PPV. It was about a week before on Undertaker's Parlor Show.
