Rob Van Dam Vs Sabu

Recommended Posts

Guest RickyB

I know that these two had many matches between each other, and that a lot of people don't like the matches that much. But i'm looking for some matches between the two but can't find many of them. I've seen the match from Hostile City Showdown 96 and from Guilty As Charged 2000. But i'm trying to find more. In fact the main one i'm looking for is from ECW TV 96/97 and was around the time of November 2 Remember of that year, I seen the match once (it went to a time limit draw, I think). If anyone knows where I can find that match it would help. But if you can point me to any other matches between the two as well i'd be greatful.

The easiest two to find are on ECW DVD's: Their stretcher match from "The Doctor is In" is on ECW Hardcore History, while their match from Wrestlepalooza '97 is on the DVD of the same name. For the record, the stretcher match is better, and if you like this sort of stuff, Sabu breaks his ankle in that match I believe.

Hope that helps.

Ah, what the hell. Here's some more if you feel like tracking them down on VHS.

Matter of Respect - 5/11/96

Hardcore Heaven '96 - 6/22/96

Oh, and the Wrestlepalooza match is from '98 not '97. My bad.

A Matter of Respect 1996 is notable for RVD's first win, but I personally like Hardcore Heaven 1996 better, the top rope broke about 5 minutes into the match and they both said "fuck it" and went out there and worked their usual style match anyways. IMO RVD vs. Sabu feud was the end of Sabu's greatness as a wrestler.

Thanks a lot. I'll look up some of those DVD's since my local HMV has a shitload of ECW stuff.

BTW - Is Hardcore History worth buying? I want to see the Stretcher Match because i've heard it's good, but do you think I should get "The Doctor Is In" from somewhere on the net, or should I buy Hardcore History?

Buy Hardcore History cause it also has Pitbulls vs Raven & Richards Dog collar match, absolute great stuff there

Rob Van Dam-Sabu Stretcher match is on the ECW Hardcore History DVD. I've seen their match from Wrestlepalooza '98 on KaZaA.

Match is nothing special...I mean it's alright, but the crowd is so dead durring that

Hardcore History is good, to a point. Sabu vs. RVD is good, the 2/3 falls tag is good, not great, not unbelievable, sure as hell not *****, but GOOD. Cactus vs. Sandman is a pass, Douglas vs. PB2 is a pass. Dreamer vs. Lee is in the okay range. Benoit/Malenko vs. Taz/Sabu is pretty good. I don't remember anything else on the DVD.

I have Sabu vs RVD in NEWF 1991 .

I'm sure there are some other great old school RVD vs Sabu bouts out there somewhere .

I have quite a few of the 1996 matches (Hardcore Heaven where the ring broke, Matter of Respect, and the Stretcher Match). I haven't really seen the WP 98 match and don't want to since I heard it was a misfire. GAC 2000 was ok but Sabu was on his last legs at that point.

A match I desperately want to see is the time limit draw for the TV title that was on ECW TV in late 1999. It took up the whole hour and I remember it getting about ****1/2.

I just watched that match from ECW tv and it was the worst match of their entire feud. It didn't take the whole hour they showed highlights of candido and rhino vs. Dreamer and Raven in one of the breaks.

Tons of missed spots. Where did you hear that match was good. This is coming from someone who loved the spot wrestling style of ECW and some of the earlier RVD and Sabu stuff, so trust me when I tell you don't bother getting the match.

I've found that, Sabu stuff post 1997 tends to age horrible (not that it was great to begin with)

I loved the hell out of the House Party '98 match vs. Sandman, but when I popped in the Path of Destruction DVD, I was bored out of my skull watching it.

The Stretcher Match is probably their best. The Matter of Respect ’96 match is worth getting as well. Mostly because that show had such a great card.

I don't remember too much about A Matter of Respect 1996, but I remember that Sabu's match with RVD was really good, and Jericho and Mikey tore down the house.

Yeah they did, last match of tape one...and tape 2 starts with Shane/Scorpion in a 30+ minute match.

The Sabu/RVD Matter of Respect match is good...but Hostile City Showdown 96 is their best, trust me
