Guest benoitrulz4life Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 After trolling around DVDR for a while I took these matches from their (DVDR's) greatest matches lists and threw them into a top 20 list. Discuss, argue, fight. 20. Chris Benoit vs. Sabu (8/5/94 - NWA - Lincoln Park, MI) 19. Chris Benoit vs. Al Snow (8/7/94 - NWA - Lima, OH) 18. Chris Benoit vs. Jushin Liger (10/18/91 - NJPW) 17. Benoit/Malenko vs. Misterio/Kidman vs. Raven/Saturn (5/9/99 - WCW - Slamboree '99) 16. Chris Benoit vs. Black Tiger (7/13/95 - NJPW - TOSJ '95 - Semis) 15. Chris Benoit vs. Black Tiger (6/11/96 - NJPW - TOSJ '96 - Semis) 14. Chris Benoit vs. Shinjiro Ohtani (3/20/96 - NJPW - WCW Cruiserweight Tourney Final) 13. Chris Benoit vs. Raven (1/24/98 - WCW - Souled Out '98 - No DQ) 12. Chris Benoit vs. Too Cold Scorpio (2/21/93 - WCW - Superbrawl '93) 11. Chris Benoit/Dean Malenko vs. Taz/Sabu (2/25/95 - ECW - Return of the Funker - Tag Titles) 10. Chris Benoit vs. Chris Jericho (12/13/95 - WAR - Super J Cup) 9. Chris Benoit vs. Dean Malenko (8/10/96 - WCW - Hog Wild '96) 8. Chris Benoit vs. Kevin Sullivan (6/16/96 - WCW - GAB '96) 7. Chris Benoit vs. Villano III (1/26/92 - UWA - 19th Anniversary Show) 6. Chris Benoit/Dean Malenko vs. Raven/Perry Saturn (4/11/99 - WCW - Spring Stampede '99) 5. Chris Benoit/Shinjiro Ohtani vs. Jushin Liger/Black Tiger (10/16/94 - NJPW - SG Jr. Tag League '94 - Finals) 4. Chris Benoit vs. El Samurai (6/15/93 - NJPW - TOSJ '93 - Finals) 3. Chris Benoit vs. Al Snow (2/4/95 - ECW - Double Tables) 2. Chris Benoit vs. Bret Hart (10/4/99 - WCW - Nitro) 1. Chris Benoit vs. Great Sasuke (4/16/94 - NJPW - Super J Cup '94 - Finals) Hey, if anyone has these matches and can make them into a comp for me, just drop me a line.
Guest Coffin Surfer Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 Well, alot of the ECW and WCW stuff has no business being over some of the New Japan matches. A glorified squash like Beniot/Snow has no business being so damn high. From what I've seen, I'd go with: 1. Chris Benoit vs. Black Tiger (6/11/96 - NJPW - TOSJ '96 - Semis) -One of the smartest worked Junior matches ever. Beniot and Tiger have the fucking crowd in the palm of their hands, getting some of the biggest reactions I've ever seen for a Junior match in Japan. Beniot continously wears Tiger down with Sleeperholds, but every time Tiger escapes he's too worn out to keep control. Simple but brilliant stuff. Easily some of the best selling of Eddy's career, they also manage to tease the finish from the 95 match. The best singles match the two ever had against each other, or quite possibily against anyone. 2. Chris Benoit/Shinjiro Ohtani vs. The Great Sasuke/Black Tiger (10/16/94 - NJPW - SG Jr. Tag League '94 - Finals) -This is best Junior Tag match I've ever seen, very fun to watch. They also had another fun match earlier, that saw Sasuke get destroyed while Tiger had to save his ass over and over. 3. Chris Benoit vs. Shinjiro Ohtani (3/20/96 - NJPW - WCW Cruiserweight Tourney Final) -Ohtani is awesome, and Beniot is flat out scary. Despite taking the ass kicking of a lifetime, Ohtani manages to mount a credible comeback that ends in one of the sickest DDT's ever. Once again, the best singles match the two ever had against each other. 4.Chris Benoit vs. Great Sasuke (4/16/94 - NJPW - Super J Cup '94 - Finals) -To the untrained eye this match may not appear as good as Sasuke/Lyger, but upon further viewing it's probably the best J Cup match ever. Deep storytelling even without the Kid/Tiger Mask stuff. 5.Chris Benoit vs. Black Tiger (7/13/95 - NJPW - TOSJ '95 - Semis) -A very good traditional Junior match, a classic even without the most perfect beautiful Super Tombstone ever executed.
Guest bob_barron Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 I always thought the Scorpio match was pretty overrated. It was boring for the most part. Why no matches from his WWF/E run?
Guest Downhome Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 Why no matches from his WWF/E run? Because he didn't wrestle for them in the 90's (minus his match with Owen earlier in the decade, I think that might have been the only one), he debuted in the WWF on January 31, 2000 I do believe.
Guest bob_barron Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 Oops- sorry I didn't see that. He wrestled Owen and I think Adam Bomb as well. Carry on...
Guest Midnight Express83 Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 Not to be a smart ass but the 90s are January 1st, 1991 to December 31st, 2000. So his matches in his first year in the WWF count. IE: vs Jericho 2/3 falls. And 10 man tag on Jan 21st, 2000.

Guest wildpegasus Posted January 21, 2003 Report Posted January 21, 2003 There was another Benoit/Black Tiger match in the 95 jr tournament as well. It's clipped some, but trust me it's an awesome match and plays to their future semifinals bout. Another great bout was the 94 NJPW Benoit vs Malenko match(not the 93 tournament match) I also enjoyed the 93 Benoit vs Eddie tournament match and the complete 95 Benoit vs El Samurai match. In WCW I thought Benoit's matches against Bret, Eddy, Booker, and Malenko were among his best work.
Guest Kid Kablam Posted January 26, 2003 Report Posted January 26, 2003 Interesting that none of his work with Booker T is listed. Also, I still don't quite get what is so great about Benoit vs Raven. I mean, it was a great end to the story between the two, but the match is too sectioned for me: as in Raven dominates, Benoit kicks his ass, they trade a few short periods of time where they're even, Benoit pins and wins.
Guest Ravenbomb Posted January 26, 2003 Report Posted January 26, 2003 I thought Benoit locked Raven in the crossface and Raven passed out, no pinfall...
