Guest areacode212 Report post Posted January 20, 2003 In this article about Gotham Central was this paragraph: Described by both writers as something akin to Homicide set in Gotham City, the series debuted with two issues in December which pitted Detective Marcus Driver against Mr. Freeze after Freeze killed Driver’s partner when the two accidentally discovered him while investigating a lead on another case. Reported to have tremendous support within the DC offices, the first two issues received high marks from critics, and comparisons to Homicide or NYPD Blue may not be far off - insiders point to the series as the next DC property that might be picked up as the next television series based on a DC comic…once the radioactivity around Birds of Prey has died down, that is… I don't want to put too much stock in what unnamed "insiders" say, but I think it's pretty cool that this great new series is getting this kind of attention only 2 issues in. But as a TV show, the concept (a non-Batman show that takes place in the Bat-universe) is WAY too similar to Birds of Prey, which just has all kinds of BAD associated with it. Do you guys think DC/Warner should attempt to make another Batman-related show as their next TV project? IMO, they should move away from the DCU for the next series--a comic like Y: The Last Man could translate well to a weekly SF drama. Then once everyone has forgotten BoP, go back and attempt a Gotham Central series.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted January 20, 2003 It sounds like Batman with detectives instead of a guy dressed as a Bat running around. Basically a more realistice version of Batman. Compared to Birds of Prey this sounds like a better concept that would appeal to a wider audience. It could be interesting if it's the opposite of what we normally see in Batman stories. We'd normally be watching Batman's side of the story and where the police sometimes get involved with him. Here we would see the Gotham Police side of the story where batman would sometimes get involved with them to help out or to hand over the criminal. However the success of the show would depend on a good cast. Doesn't need to be a big name cast it just needs to be cast well.
Guest Karnage Report post Posted January 20, 2003 They should just make more episodes of Batman: TAS.
Guest starvenger Report post Posted January 20, 2003 So, the public didn't buy a show with two hot chicks on it, but they'll buy a show with the Bullocks and Montoyas of the Batman universe?
