Guest Sassquatch Report post Posted January 20, 2003 Football vs. Baseball I gotta say, Caple brings up a lot of good points, stuff I'd never thought about but it does make you wonder.
Guest raptor Report post Posted January 20, 2003 I agree. It's really an interesting article. I never thought about the media disparities between baseball and football until Caple brought them to light. I guess when you're on top (football), people are just a little easier on you. Guest bob_barron Report post Posted January 20, 2003 The only thing I disagreed with was MNF. They tried pushing back an hour earlier and it flat out bombed. So they did try there
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted January 21, 2003 I think alot of the problems Baseball has with the media is Bud Selig. Personally I don't think Selig's a horrible owner. But the media is so pro-union, and they think Selig is in bed with the owners they don't like him and blame him for everything that goes wrong in baseball. Guest Kahran Ramsus Report post Posted January 21, 2003 I don't know what the hell Caple's talking about, but people complain about those things all the time. Other than the moves from LA. People were just glad (unless you are from LA) that they left. The Raiders never should have left Oakland in the first place. But moving a team is different than being in so poor financial shape that you have to contract. I would much rather see a team like the Devil Rays move to Washington and have a chance of success, than simply fold. The NHL is in even worse shape than MLB though. The other issues either have already been touched on (MNF) or are just as big (steroids) in the NFL as they are in MLB. The All-Star game in particular is well-known to be the only such All-Star game that means anything whatsoever. The reason people don't rag on the NFL is that it's better. Everything the article mentions is pretty minor. The big thing is the lack of competition in MLB, and it simply is killing the league. It is like the WWF. In 2000, they did some horrible things (ex. Mae Young), but generally were putting on a great product and few people complained. In 2002, they did some good things (ex. Smackdown Six) but generally did pretty horrible so everyone hated the product. That's the difference between MLB and the NFL.
Guest alkeiper Report post Posted January 21, 2003 No competition? What the heck are you talking about? Sure there are some bad teams, but baseball has always had bad teams.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted January 21, 2003 People should rag on Football more, it's a watered down league, and I don't think either one of these teams in the Super Bowl are in the same league has the Cowboys and 49ers teams of the early to mid 90's.
