I got this new mouse...

there is like a sensor light that tracks movement. It runs really smooth. I like it. I am wondering if anyone knows the shelf life of this type of mouse. If they light burns out, do you need a new one?

If you do an optical mouse is only 15 or so bucks. I've had mine for a year and no probs.

I had a logitech optical mouse and it worked for me for 2 years until I won a wireless logitech optical mouse and keyboard which Im now using..

Optical mice rule, since they can be used on just about any surface (except mirrors and highly reflective glass) and can even be used vertically on a wall (I've tried!) and upside down. The only two things are that you need to make sure the laser doesn't get any dirt near it and not to leave your comp in standby mode since the laser will stay lit..

(tried that too).

I'm fairly certain that USB optical mice get their power from the PC, thru the USB port. They should have a pretty good shelf life, since they lack the moving parts of a ball mouse, and there's no battery to deplete.

I have a USB optical mouse, and have had for nearly two years without any problems whatsoever.

I've got one too, used it for about six months, works like a charm on the arm of a chair.

I've had my Logitech laser gimmick mouse for about 2 weeks now. So far it's working great, and I won't get a ball mouse again

Also have a Logitech optical and I've had it for six months now. No problems and no having to clean out gunk that clogs up a ball mouse. If this thing dies in two years, hell, it was still a good investment.

I had one for about a year, and it worked till something happened and it just started freaking out on me and I had to get another one.
