Guest FeArHaVoC Report post Posted January 21, 2003 I'm not a fan of U2 in the first place, and I'm sure someone will argue this, but I'm saying it anyway. I'm so sick of Bono and his Crap! Don't get me wrong, him doing Charity work is great. Matter of fact, it's Amazing! Anyone in the Spot light that does Charity work is more then fine in my Book. A lot of Actors, Musicians, Sport Athletes, etc do Charity work. However, MOST, unlike U2 don't make MTV, VH1, MSNBC, FOX News, and the CNN Camera Crews follow them around while they do it. I think it's a load of Crap. I have more Respect for the Acts and Bands who try to Do Charity work without any Publicity.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted January 21, 2003 I bet those charities get a significant increase in funds after someone like Bono has gone on TV or whatever and publically done something with them. Since that's probably the case, and I've got no other reason to believe otherwise, I say kudos for trying to do something useful.
Guest FeArHaVoC Report post Posted January 21, 2003 The Average Joe would probably send $20 on U2's overpriced CD after seeing them on TV then they would on a Charity. Like I said, I have a lot of Respect for doing it, just Bono Bugs the shit out of me.
Guest saturnmark4life Report post Posted January 21, 2003 Yeah I hate the fucker, but I actually think charity work is just about the closest thing to an upside with a shitty middle of the road band like U2.
Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted January 21, 2003 I hereby found a non-profit organization to find Bono a second name.
Guest Edwin MacPhisto Report post Posted January 21, 2003 I didn't see any news coverage when, just two weeks ago, The Edge (guitarist, not SPEAR~!) paid 85,000 Euro to win a charity auction to benefit a 4-year old girl with cancer. Stuff like this happens every week and the only places that pick it up are a few Irish papers and some U2-centric cites, like U2log.com. What amazes me about U2 is that, despite the sometimes ridiculous amount of press coverage they get for certain charitable acts, twice as much more goes on below the radar. Bono can be a very, very annoying personality when he gets in one of his super-pretentious modes (as opposed to regular run-of-the-mill pretentious, which is pretty much always on) about a cause, a song, or really anything you let him blabber on about, but he and the band seem to be constantly doing good things. They also made the "Discotheque" video, and no one who did that can do wrong in my eyes.

Guest Edwin MacPhisto Report post Posted January 21, 2003 Well, yeah, but then they went and recorded "The Hands That Built America," and even I have to piss on the man for that.

Guest FeArHaVoC Report post Posted January 22, 2003 We can always rip on all these so called "Punk" bands like The Used, Good Charlotte, New Found Glory, etc., who are rebelling against being called "Rock Stars" while their Video's are being played all over MTV and their music all over the radio?
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted January 22, 2003 That's a good call. Pop punk has gone relatively undisturbed long enough.
Guest saturnmark4life Report post Posted January 22, 2003 All pop/emo bands have a singer that looks like someone took a shit on his face.
Guest FeArHaVoC Report post Posted January 22, 2003 You guys see that new MTV "Ultra Sound" How to Live like a Rock Star, Part 48563845732, with these new bands? The Foo Fighters were ripping and calling these bands out on their bull shit about not being "Rock Stars" and not admitting that its about the Money.

Guest Gamengiri2002 Report post Posted January 24, 2003 I dunno, Bono just looks a little too much like Robin Williams for me to take him seriously. It's a strange thing to get hooked up on, but still.... eerie...
