Guest Jobber of the Week Report post Posted January 22, 2003 Get ready for information overload, as we watch a LOT of news in our house. Although I guess if any marketers are reading, they'll love to know this info: I use CNN to put me to sleep. Not that I'm smacking it, mind you, but they're the only one running live news at 2AM over here. Fox News doesn't start until 3. Besides, Carol Costello's voice is sleep-inducing. My news priorities are the following: 1. Local News 2. CNN 3. MSNBC 4. Fox News 5. NewsWorld Intl. 6. Weather Channel or something (never had to go this low) So basically how this works is, let's say there's no local news on. I watch CNN, and when CNN goes to a commercial, I go to MSNBC. When MSNBC goes to a commercial, I go back to CNN and watch that. If they're both on commercial, then I watch Fox. Things are different when if it's past 2PM or so. Fox News afternoon programming is fine, but once the bullshit opinion shows come on, I'd rather poke my eyes out with a sharp stick or watch a Katie Vick recap video package than watch that evening "reporting." I don't watch Brokaw and company on the major networks because I'd rather watch news when I want and not for the :30 they're on. Local affiliate news is an exception since I can't get hometown news on the nationals. As for opinionmakers, I watch Chris Matthews Hardball on MSNBC since he's usually talking about the business of politics and politicians themselves, rather than political issues like gun control or whatever. Only thing I watch on the main networks are the Sunday Morning shows. The newspaper has a tiny column in the front page section saying who will be appearing on which show, and then I sit and Tivo them up, since sometimes Colin Powell will be giving two interviews on NBC and ABC at the same time. I've watched all the Sunday shows, and Meet The Press is typically the best when it comes to grilling the politicians, with Fox News Sunday second. George Stephanopolis or whoever on ABC tends just to let them blow wind and rarely nails them on any issues. The shows I don't like are most Fox opinion shows. I'm a political moderate and if the major media is left-biased (and FWIW, Chris Matthews let two Republicans tag team Gore Vidal the other night and did nothing about it,) they aren't as obvious about their bias as Fox is. O'Reilly is more concerned about political social issues where party lines divide, like guns or the environment or gay people being able to admit to the public that they actually exist, and that stuff can be argued until the cows come home and no progress will be made. Hannity and Colmes is only good if they have an aggressive guest, as watching the two hosts argue is about as predictable as Undertaker vs Funaki. I haven't watched Greta or Donahue's shows too much. Their old shows bored me and their new ones bore me as well.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted January 22, 2003 Comedy Central's The Daily Show and when it was still on Politically Incorrect. I don't like the completely serious news.
Guest NoCalMike Report post Posted January 22, 2003 I used to watch politically incorrect all the time. I watch, Hannity & Colmes, Hardball(especially the college tours), Buchanan&Press, Talkback Live, Donahue, and on occasion O'Reily.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted January 22, 2003 Fox News and only Fox News.
Guest EricMM Report post Posted January 22, 2003 I basically only watch Fox News, and especially O'Reilly and Fox And Friends in the morning. Oh, and the Daily Show. Hells yeah
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted January 22, 2003 When I'm in Canada I watch the Score for news I guess since we dont get FNC. But when I'm home- O'Reilly all the way

Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted January 22, 2003 I steer clear from the broadcast wing of Big Media, hence no ABC, CBS, NBC. FOX: Special Report w/ Brit Hume, especially the last 15 minutes w/ the all-star panel O'Reilly Hannity & Colmes every now and then CNN: Crossfire's political alerts MSNBC: Donhaue during O'Reilly breaks just for sheer amusement... Guest EricMM Report post Posted January 22, 2003 Does anyone else watch Talk Back Live on CNN? It's on now for me, and it always amazes me to find the sheer stupidity of the American public. Some people are just SOOO out of touch with things like the Environment, Children (in general but especially sex), and what's just generally right and wrong. I don't claim to be the epitomie of knowledge but a lot of people are really just ignorant!
Guest Slapnuts00 Report post Posted January 22, 2003 Pretty much Fox News here. I love Oreily and Hannity and Colmes. Hardball is good too and occsionally Donahue for a laugh. I don't watch CNN much, nothing interest me. When Jesse Ventura gets his show on MSNBC I will definitely by watching.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted January 22, 2003 Hmm..does Headline news count? Between Headline News and ESPNews thats about all the news-ish channels I watch. Most of the news I get comes from reading Total Fark a couple times a day.
Guest HecateRose Report post Posted January 23, 2003 I'm not really sure which "channels" I currently watch since I get AFN (Armed Forces Network) TV which gets shows from every network and runs them on 3 different channels (not that each networks news only goes on one channel, they are all mixed together). I get O'Reilly (watch it on occasion), but mostly I get bombarded with Headline News and ESPN News.
Guest NoCalMike Report post Posted January 23, 2003 I watch Talkback Live...I must say, it is the most light-hearted of all the "town-hall" type shows.
Guest JMA Report post Posted January 29, 2003 I'm not really a fan of Fox News. I watch mostly CNN and MSNBC. But I find the internet much easier to find "real" news.
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted January 29, 2003 On Drudge today he said that MSNBC was going to undergo a MAJOR shakeup. "EXCLUSIVE: MSNBC SHAKES UP SKED; PLAN FOR SAM DONALDSON TO ANCHOR NEW LINEUP: MSNBC is on the verge of shaking up its schedule, again, the DRUDGE REPORT can reveal... MORE... ABC NEWS veteran Sam Donaldson will soon take direct aim at CNN's LARRY KING -- in the 9 pm ET slot, sources reveal. [ABC NEWS executives on Tuesday grudgingly gave Donaldson the green light to pursue any MSNBC opportunity. Donaldson will continue at ABC NEWS RADIO.] Chris Matthews HARDBALL demoted to 7 PM ET; afternoon talkers Bill Press And Pat Buchanan upgraded to 8 PM ET, according to one blueprint. Phil Donahue, it appears, has been removed from prime hours. At 10 PM, former Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura's will try a daily show... Developing..." Bye bye Phil, it was fun -- laughing at you... Guest Olympic Slam Report post Posted January 29, 2003 I get my news from the radio but for the most part Fox News is on at my house as background noise with O'Reilly being the only show I go out of my way to watch. Hannity & Colmes occasionally as well but I get tired of the childish arguing. Michael Savage is getting a new weekend show very soon on either CNN or MSNBC (he hasn't said which yet) so I will definitely be tuning into whichever station puts him on. Donahue and Talk Back live sometimes because I like to torture myself I guess.

Guest Justwitty Report post Posted January 30, 2003 Of all the news networks, the only one I ever tune to for more than 5 minutes it Fox News. For me, it comes down to who is more entertaining as anchors. I can get my news anywhere and form my own opinions based on relatively unbiased coverage. (newspapers, internet, etc.) But when watching television news, I'm fully aware that any host is probably going to have a biased view. Thus, I like to see who has the most entertaining slant and go from there. I dig O'Reilly and Shepard Smith the most on Fox. (I can't figure out why I like Smith so much. Probably because there is no one else like him in news anchoring.) I also REALLY like Aaron Brown over on CNN. Whenever I watch him, he strikes me as a down to earth individual who may actually be telling me the truth.
Guest Crazy Dan Report post Posted February 3, 2003 I watch my local news channel 2 for my local news. (Bay Area) I like to mix it up between CNN and Fox News. But mainly, if there is a big story breaking, I tend to go with CNN. I like Bill O'Reilly's show, even when I don't agree with what he says, I like that he calls both sides on their "shit". I can stand Hannity and Colmes, most of the time, but sometimes Hannity gets condescending in his attitude, which annoys me. I mean if someone waved their finger in my face, like he does all the itme. I would grab and break it... well not really, but you get the idea. Also, for all you college kids out there, if you are looking for a good drinking game, watch this show and take a drink for every time Hannity uses the term "liberals" or every time he blames everything on the "liberals" I am sure you would be palstered by the end of the show. And I usually will catch Crossfire on CNN, but if I miss it, I will read the transcript on the website. And one thing about greta, is it me, or does she have a problem opening the left side of her mouth? That just plain annoys me to no end, and I usually skip it. Guest Jobber of the Week Report post Posted February 3, 2003 I watch my local news channel 2 for my local news. (Bay Area) Another KTVU fan? Can it be? Heh. Kinda neat. I've found after watching endless hours of local news that KTVU generally tries the hardest to be the most moderate of the local news stations. 4 is left-slanted, 5 I don't like for personal reasons, 7 I haven't seen enough but I think it may be left-slanted, and 11 was right-slanted although it may have changed when NBC officially bought the place and started restaffing. Yes, I'm crazy enough to monitor levels of political bias in my local news.

Guest Kingpk Report post Posted February 5, 2003 I enjoy FOX News, but I must say something about Shepard Smith, he is the MOST ANNOYING MAN ON CABLE NEWS!! Anyone else want to ram that "G Block" up his ass?

Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted February 5, 2003 I know. I saw the show -- entertaining as hell; my favorite part was when he said to Kluger that him appearing on the show was the only thing he respected about him. BTW: Did you see Thursday night's show with that son from a WTC victim? Damn. I've only seen O'Reilly cut an interview short twice before. BTW: Didn't Glick look/sound like Adam Sandler? "I enjoy FOX News, but I must say something about Shepard Smith, he is the MOST ANNOYING MAN ON CABLE NEWS!! Anyone else want to ram that "G Block" up his ass?" YES YES YES YES YES -- Him and Laurie Dhue, the Lilian Garcia of FNC. I hate them both. I laughed out loud when I saw Dhue overseas as a reporter a few weeks back...
