Liking How the Midcard's Getting Better

Recommended Posts

Guest One Bad Apple

Has anyone noticed the midcard is getting real storylines now?  So far it's only been Christian and Page, the shampoo commercial and whet they're gonna be doing with Godfather,

but that's a lot more than anything else I've seen in a while.

There's complaining about the first two, but I personally love 'em.  I couldn't stand Christian, but now I look forward to him.  Well, him and DDP ... but still.  Part of the appeal is there's a few interesting directions this could take, considering Page beat Christian for the Euro Title and was the catalyst for the losing streak in the first place.  The skits haven't been that great, but they've been enough to make me wanna see more.

The shampoo commercial is even better.  Too bad the Booker/Edge feud's probably gonna be ending at WrestleMania.  I don't care what anyone says.  That whole thing was a stroke of genius.  "YO!! Japanese people ... why yo' hair so nasty?"

Hopefully after the split there'll be more actual angles instead of things like:

=====

[ Mr. Perfect intentionally bumps Edge as he walks past him in the back. ]

EDGE:

What the hell was that all about?

MR. PERFECT:

What?

EDGE:

You know what I'm talking about.

PERFECT:  [swats gum]

No ... I don't.

EDGE:  [pushes Perfect]

That, dorkchop.

[ Crowd goes "ooooh." ]

PERFECT:

Y'know, back in my day, young punks like you had respect for their elders.  So you better let me shove you back or you'll see ... why they call me ... "perfect."

EDGE:  [motions to title]

Maybe you should respect me and my belt, reekazoid.

PERFECT:

Maybe I should take that belt away from you then.

[ "Ooooooh." ]

EDGE:

Yeah, right. [bad Mr. Perfect voice]  Look at me! Don't push me, unless you do it perfectly!  Perfect, perfect, perfect! [normal voice] Perfect dorkchop, maybe. [Crowd laughs!]

PERFECT:  [swats gum]

I bet you won't talk so tough when I hit you with a Perfect-Plex and pin you for the belt ... and the three.

EDGE:

Whatever, Mr. Dorkchop! [crowd laughs] I'm sure all the Edgeheads would love to see me kick your ass at the pay-per-view.

PERFECT:  [swats gum]

Make sure you spend a lot of time with that gold, because I won't allow you any time with it after I take it. [makes the "belt around the waist" motion]

EDGE:

We'll see about that, Mr. Reekazoid. [makes the "belt around the waist" motion]

=====

And no, there was no point to this.

I pretty much watch the WWF for the mid-card these days. Personally I think there has been an improvement in Chritstian more than anyone. I only see two hours of the WWF a wekk though, that being Raw.

I like the Japanese shampoo commercial stuff.  It's dumb, but in a completely tolerable way.  And at least Edge and Booker both have something to do for WrestleMania.  Christian and DDP hasn't really been much of anything thus far.  Christian's fake-smiled a few times, there was a skit where he was mean to children, and one where he suggested pulling the plug on Grandma Edna (which she totally deserved, by the way).  How that adds up to a WrestleMania match for either guy is beyond me.  This stuff is all mildly entertaining and everything, but these aren't WrestleMania caliber angles.

I personally prefer no storylines to crappy storylines. Edge fueding with Booker is cool and all, but a shampoo comercial kills any appeal the feud could have had for me. Why should I take either guy seriously if the booker's don't take them seriously? The midcard seems to be one big inside joke that the writers create to chuckle at for fun now. The idea that Page is consoling Christian despite creating his negative attitude is probably just a plot hole (and a pretty bad one, at that) and I don't see anything really interesting in the way it's going. Edge/Regal seems to have finally ended, but Regal Vs. anyone seems borring now.

The writers just need to stop pooring so much into the NWO angle and worry about what the other 50 wrestlers on TV are doing, and fast.

I loved that too.  Booker T just rules.

It's still a letdown for a Wrestlemania feud though.  A WM match should be two guys who hate each other to death and can't wait to tear each other apart.  These days it's a mild inconvenience that can lead to a Wrestlemania match.  I hope they get back to the old way one of these years.

That's what the other one was.  The one with the kids was awful, except for the fake smile and how he went to hit one of 'em.  I liked the Grandma Edna one better, but it doesn't make sense he would get any kind of inheritance as she only liked Edge.  And speaking of Edge, why didn't he have any problem with this?  Crazy!

I think they're gonna have Christian get frustrated and ask Page why he's doing this when he was the one who took his belt and started the streak in the first place.

It'd be cool if after having Page accepts the challenge, he goes on to lose at WrestleMania.  Then on Raw, he goes to congratulate Christian and accidentally reveals he took a dive to make him happy.  I dunno where it would go from there.

Cool thing is that I think this could actually happen.  I know I'd love to see it.

This stuff is all mildly entertaining and everything, but these aren't WrestleMania caliber angles.

I agree that these aren't seem like a big enough deal for WrestleMania (though I think they could've been if they happened at least two weeks before they did).  I'm just saying that I'm enjoying how the midcard is getting some thought put into it and how that will hopefully continue to increase.

The idea that Page is consoling Christian despite creating his negative attitude is probably just a plot hole (and a pretty bad one, at that) and I don't see anything really interesting in the way it's going.

I don't think so, considering they're fighting at WrestleMania and that the tantrums actually started in a match against DDP.  And tantrums coupled with the losing streak don't strike me as things they'd give to guy if they weren't gonna have something come of it.  Finally, DDP's character seems like someone who would conceivably want to help a guy like Christian.

I don't see any evidence at all that tells me they didn't think this out in advance.

I don't think the idea of the shampoo commercial is even that ridiculous.

Lately, Booker looks like he's been pushed as someone who, despite being a moron, is capable of winning clean.  Edge has been that way for around two years.  It's supposed to be part of his appeal.  Course, it appeared they wanted to  change that a little when he was attacking Regal all the time, but that never went anywhere.

I see Christian and DDP tagging on RAW or Smackdown.  Christian gets the win after DDP hits the Diamond Cutter.  He then goes on to celebrate like a mad man, and declares his slump to be over.  He claims he no longer needs DDP and challenges him for his Euro title at WrestleMania.  That'd be logical.
