Guest Mole Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 I got this from 411wrestling.com DarkHorizons.com reports that Vince McMahon has had talks with FOX about moving Smackdown to the network. WWE's deal with UPN expires in August and no extension has been reached yet. UPN did recently announce that they have cut their losses in half, so their future does not seem to be in question. FOX does target the same demographic as WWE, so that could be a good match. For now, take this as nothing but a rumor. Credit: DarkHorizons.com Like they said, take this as a rumor. If something doesn't come from the Big 3 internet websites, take it for what its worth. If it is true, it would be a good move by WWE. Fox has more markets than UPN and is considered apart of the Top 4 network stations. If there is a TV in a house, Fox is there.
Guest TheZsaszHorsemen Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 UPN did recently announce that they have cut their losses in half, so their future does not seem to be in question. Yeah, I wonder how *that* happened. It couldn't have been SmackDown! could it? It *had* to have been The Hughleys! Oh, and isn't 411 as credible as 1Wrestling or the Torch?
Guest Kahran Ramsus Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 No. 411wrestling.com gets their news from everywhere. It is a hub of sorts, that makes it easier to look up. They are relatively accurate because most of their news comes from the big 3 sites.

Guest Brian Posted January 24, 2003 Report Posted January 24, 2003 It's a hub site, but a lot of stuff gets mixed in with what they report. If you're willing to take the junk, go ahead. Credibility isn't the same because there a second source site.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted January 24, 2003 Report Posted January 24, 2003 I sure hope not. I probably won't be able to get the fox feed since most of them are digital (Im lucky to get the feed of 24 but only because its the Canadian feed..) and we just are getting a UPN Station here next week, but we don't get FOX, although I can get FOX over the satellite. BUT I WANT MY SMACKDOWN EARLY !!!!
LaParkaYourCar Posted January 24, 2003 Report Posted January 24, 2003 UPN is mostly owned by Fox so it would make sense for it to move there if UPN cuts it.
Guest teke184 Posted January 24, 2003 Report Posted January 24, 2003 That would be a first... UPN LOSING a show to Fox instead of scavenging their cancelled shows. Chris Griffin: Where do you think you go when you die? Southern boy: I learned from church that if you're good you go to heaven but if you're bad, you go to a place where the dead believe they're still living and they pray for death but death won't come. Chris Griffin: UPN?
Guest Mole Posted January 24, 2003 Report Posted January 24, 2003 UPN is mostly owned by Fox so it would make sense for it to move there if UPN cuts it. Ahh, where'd you get that info LaParka? I thought that UPN was owned by Viacom, which has NOTHING to do with Fox.
Guest Choken One Posted January 24, 2003 Report Posted January 24, 2003 LaParka is totally wrong, Fox isn't anyway connected to UPN. UPN is a part of the Viacom blanket, Laparka was thinking CBS. If they DO indeed sign with FOX, Do you expect Viacom to have issues? Of course, I am already predicting another USA type Fiasco for us this summer. WWE can't sign with Fox and Viacom, it won't work. Either WWE toughs it out with UPN or sign with Fox and face a possible negative reaction from Viacom and lose their contract (They could easily get a breach of contract in court). So that means Raw gets screwed and winds up on FX, A network with Significant lesser audience. Will Fox put Smackdown on Thursdays as Well?
Guest Mole Posted January 24, 2003 Report Posted January 24, 2003 Actually Choken, WWE's deal with UPN was made before the Viacom deal. There is no connection between the two contracts, if memory serves me correct. Besides, the XFL was on NBC, which had NOTHING to do with Viacom, since it was also on TNN.
LaParkaYourCar Posted January 24, 2003 Report Posted January 24, 2003 I thought I read somewhere that Fox owned 20% of UPN.......maybe I was wrong.

Yes, but they are signed with Viacom NOW, so they would have a problem NOW. It didn't mean much to Viacom anyhow, since XFL was a part of WWFe anyways. Here they are taking away revenue for UPN. Trust Me, Viacom won't be happy about Vince talking with Fox.
